Calorie Deficit aka Calorie Banking

Saturday, August 30, 2008

August has been totally awesome for me. I owe this to Huggers1 for recommending the Walk Away The Pounds videos and to Kalh7338 for teaching me about "banking calories" aka calorie deficit. Also to my sister who gave me a used pedometer which got me striving for 10,000 steps daily and then spurred me to go for 15,000!

I am doing so well that I have decided to throw caution to the wind and have changed my goal weight to 135! Unknown territory! According to Spark this will happen around Jan 7, 2009! Will I reach it? I don't know, but I am going to give this my all!

Total losses for August, my personal best month yet!
Lost 8.7 pounds! Lost 5 inches!

Whew, that is a load off my chest! And everywhere else, lol.

Calorie Banking aka Calorie Deficit

Calorie Banking helped me and takes away the "will I lose" and changes it to I know I am going to lose the weight.

I am going to put the links here but if you should have trouble with them, go to the very top of the spark page where you see a box and search and type in calorie deficit and it will bring up many pages including www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results
.asp and www.sparkpeople.com/community/ask_the_expe
rts.asp?q=27

Basically you must find your BMR www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ and multiply it by 1.2 to get the number of calories your body will burn just by being alive and breathing. You next take your total calories eaten for the day and subtract this from the other number. Then you find how many calories you burned from your fitness page Cardio exercises and add the number to the other one. The resulting number is the number of calories you are "banking" . The goal is to have 500 or more deficit calories per day which will give you 1 pound loss a week. 1000 per day will net 2 pounds loss per week.

My BMR today is 1422.7 X 1.2 = 1707.24 calories my body burns just by existing.

I eat 1200 calories today, 1707.24 - 1200 = 507.24

I walked 1 mile - 135 calories burned
3 mile Walk Away The Pounds video - 346.5

The total calories burned is 481.5 and added to 507.24 = 988.74 deficit calories banked!

I keep learning things here at Spark People!

It is really exciting to see why we are losing weight instead of worrying about will we lose weight.

Hugs,
Linda

Oh Raylin, you are a TRUE inspiration!!! I never realized til I joined up with sparky just how darned sedentary I'd gotten.....finally dug out a cheapo pedometer I'd had around for over a year and never opened, and first day I wore it, I logged something like 500 steps!!!! Geez, and I never considered myself a couch potato, but guess what..........that's exactly what I'd turned into!!! I think the most steps I've ever logged on any given day was around 2500......so I have a LONG way to go, to ever work up to what you're doing! But I'm gonna give it my all this month........gonna dig that ol' pedo back out and give it a whirl this month and see how I can do by October. Kudos to you for doing so GREAT!!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Pizza Party Birthday!

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Thursday I donated blood and of course lost the pound from the giving. I took my own orange as my after donation snack! But I was off my veggies a few days, don't know why unless the body called for carbs to make the new blood? But, I never went over on my calories!

Saturday I had to go to my great-nieces 5th birthday pizza party but my sister was ready for me with the nutritional information from Papa John's.

Well, I was able to have 2 slices of plain cheese pizza and she bought those ice cream beads and a "cupcake" birthday cake. I took a small half of the ice cream and 1/4 cupcake and the rest went to DH!

I ended the day in positive territory!

Today I got the greatest surprise, I was down 1.5 pounds! WooHoo!!

Overweight, here I come! My choice of virtual model is the next goal of 163 pounds! Whew, I am going to make it!

    Hi Linda!

Yeah! Doesn't it feel great to be able to be human and eat what everyone else is eating (in moderation) and still be able to stick to your calorie plan and still lose weight! Good going!

I had to take my dad to his IDC Luncheon (he has an internal defibrillator/pacemaker unit) and I thought about bringing my own from home but eventually we all must eat out.

So, today was a Box Lunch from Heavenly Ham and I ate only half the sandwich and gave away my cookie and potato chips. I just came home to check the nutrition online and since I didn't use the Mayo or much of the special mustard the sandwich was only 485 calories! I was allowed to eat the other half! What a wonderful day!

And for the first time ever, I walked 4.5 miles this morning! Now I can keep up with my fast-stepping sister for the evening walk!

emoticon Life is grand!

Love you goonies forever,
Linda

    Way to go!!!!

My husband and I just went to the YMCA and after our workout we stopped at Coldstone Creamery. (I know, I know. :-)

He got a "Love it!" sized rocky road and I got this new yogurt they have that's only 25 calories an ounce. Got some berries on top. The whole thing was only 150 calories. I was so excited!

(I did have ONE spoon of his rocky road, though.)

Another successful week!

Monday, August 18, 2008

I am supposed to blog! I had blogged but deleted the wrong one and lost my blog, A Matter of Perspective!

I had to change my profile because it was looking so pretty and slim - from the front! So, now I have one from the side. Eew! Reality check in progress!!

I had a pretty good week last week. Hit 175 and of course bounced back up to 176 but I also have increased my morning walk from 3 miles to 4 miles now! And am walking twice a day too! So I am averaging about 7 miles daily and feeling super-charged.

I even bought Walk Away the Pounds, thanks Huggers, and have used it twice! I love it!!

I really do love Calling All Goonies and need to thank the leader and co-leaders for their tremendous support and total commitment to the cause.

I will lose this weight and will never be fat again!

I love you guys,
Linda

OMG! I am the weight on my Driver's License!

This is another SparkPeople epiphany! I was walking on the walking trail and just letting my mind wander when I thought about how you must now have a drivers license to operate a golf cart on it. That led to this year my drivers license is up for renewal, and that of my DH.

Well, when I realized that I am actually within .2 pounds of being the weight that is listed on my drivers license I knew this would be a blog subject!

Another mile-marker accomplished!

I honestly have no idea what the weight is on my drivers license. It isn't listed so I don't know what has been recorded. LOL.

I hope I am not too far over it right now. I am so proud of you. You are doing amazing and I know you will meet many more of your goals.
