Perfect timing

Thursday, October 21, 2010

I had my blood drawn for labs and I went to get the results this past Tuesday. Pretty much everybody in my family has diabetes. My mother also takes medicine to control her cholesterol. Well, on Tuesday, my Dr told me that my cholesterol is high. The good thing is that it's not way out of wack. However, I do need to bring it down and guess what he said......"you need to lose weight". Another good thing is that I re-started my journey to a healthy lifestyle on Aug 7 (funny how I remember the date being that I'm bad with dates). So I've already lost 15lb. He told me I need to lose 30lb. Coincidentally that's my goal. So in 3 months I have another appointment to get labs done again and see if it's gone down. At first I was back and forth (emotionally) about this. I would get mad, then I'd get motivated. Yesterday and today it's been more motivation. I've decided to increase my exercise and hopefully lose it faster. My goal was and still is at least 1lb per week but I am striving for more. One thing I have to do is plan out my dinners cuz that's what's sabatoging me. I don't plan and prepare and so we end up eating out. My goal is to be at 199lb by Nov 16 and eventuall 180lb-185lb by the end of the year. Time to sign off and get to planning.

Isn't it great to know that you preempted this discussion so that it had less adverse impact? Imagine how you would have felt pre-August 7th? Like it would have been a chore to try to think about losing weight. Now you're already well on your way and you have motivation to keep going. Good for you!

Awesome! I cut my cholesterol significantly by diet and exercise with some weight loss thrown in but not much. Here's what I did:

I cut out trans fats completely (I know some might have snuck in but if it was listed, I avoided it).
I cut out saturated fats as much as possible. I didn't have an exact number but if I splurged for an item, I tried to balance it out by having less elsewhere.
I allowed myself a lot of monounsaturated fats and some polyunsaturated fats.
Since I had to cut out a lot of meat, I added a lot of beans (and rice).
Lots of veggies and fruit.
Different forms of oats (oatmeal, steel cut oats, etc...)
At least one brewed green tea drink a day.
Increase my cardio exercise.
And added supplements:
Red yeast rice (at lower than recommended levels)
Fish Oil
Fiber
Niacin (biggest benefit, raises HDL or good cholesterol)

Research it and find out what works for you.

1st Goal met! Yeah!!!

Thursday, October 07, 2010

210!!!! This was my 1st goal and although my goal was to be at 210 by the end of September, I'm so happy to be here and look forward to reaching my next goal of 200. :) I usually weigh in on Wednesdays but couldn't do so because of work so I had to weigh myself today. I drank my water, ate all my calories, exercised twice, and kept my goal of 1lb a week in mind. This way of losing weight has really made an impact on me. I'm learning how much to eat, and what to eat. I'm finding what I can eat while out with my family. I feel I'm being a good example cuz my kids see me exercise and eat healthy. Sure there are days or meals when I cheat but i'm finding a balance. This has been an overall good experience.

Starting weight - 220
Last week - 211
Current - 210 (first goal)
Next goal - 199 by November 16.

Congratulations and keep up the good work! Family time is what we do this for anyway, right? To have more time, more qualitative time, and to be able to "cheat" with them without feeling like we're abusing our bodies.

Yay!

So Close!

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Weighed myself today. I'm at 211. My goal is 210 by the end of September. The exact weight for today is 211.2. So I'll be weighing myself on Friday and if I can lose the .2 then I'll have met my first goal of 210 by the end of Sept.

Taking Responsibility - Taking Action

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Well i got what i expected this week. No loss, but good news is that i didn't gain. It's only one person's fault...me. I didn't drink my water, didn't eat the right kind of food, and didn't exercise as much as i should. I believe that if i had just exercised more i would've met omy goal of losing 1 pound but i didn't and so i have no one or nothing to blame except my self and I accept this. I also know that I WILL be doing a heck of a lot better this next weigh in. I am upset with myself but will be taking action as a result. I'm not gonna cry over the past. Moving forward!

Don't beat yourself up just 'cause you messed up. Not gaining is nothing to sneeze at. Now, get busy.

On track with my goal

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

This is awesome! I lost TWO pounds this past week! I've been making sure to eat all my calories, drink my water, 2 to 3 days of exercise, and I keep my goal of one pound per week in mind. This past week I had a few drinks, but everything in moderation. If you look at my nutrition, I'm still eating with my family at Chick fil A, Wendy's, Hamburgers, etc. However I'm substituting the fries for a fruit cup, drinking diet drinks, and so on and so forth. I find myself looking and reading lables to see how much cholesterol (that's one of the things i'm watching), how many calories, how many carbs a food has. I'm really excited bout being on track with my goal (210lb by the end of Sept). Three pounds left and I have 2 weeks. I've been thinking about adding running or P90X to my regimine. It seems the more I lose the more motivated I get. Can't wait to see the results when I add either running or P90X.

Starting weight 220
Last week 215
Current weight 213
Goal 210 by the end of Sept (190 eventually)
