Hello Summer

Sunday, June 16, 2013

Oh where, oh where I have I been??? Definitely not blogging :) This has been the most rain I have seen in Spring for years and years. Lots of grass growing, green everywhere but darn - not so nice to be out working in this wind, rain and cool weather. I am ready for summer and some heat.
Cows have all had their babies and are out enjoying the grass. Catching up on fencing and other ranch chores - putting in a new water line and troughs and getting the equipment ready for haying.
Got a couple of new cow dogs - they are kelpies and really amazing at herding the cattle. They will be a great help to me this summer.
Have been trying to focus on exercising every day and eating healthy but yikes!! not always so easy. Had a fitness assessment done by a certified trainer here - and whoopee!! - I am healthy and very fit BUT in order to lose these last few pounds she says I really have to ramp up the exercise to get my heart rate elevated enough. So... I have purchased a couple of Beach Body exercise programs and am trying those. The first one was too much like "dancing" - a very choreographed routine but this next one is all about high intensity workouts and then bring your heart rate down for 30 seconds and go again. It is a 60 day program so will see how I make out. In addition, I have started drinking their Shakeology product. Several flavours, mix with water or milk or almond milk and fruit if you like, is about 300 calories with those additions so a good breakfast. I have noticed that it has reduced some of my cravings for food and since I drink it after I work out, I am never interested in a coffee anymore!!
Had a busy day today - worked in the forest about 3 hours from home for most of the day, then spent a couple hours mowing the lawn and cleaning up. Hope the storm holds off so I can finish trimming the lawn edges and get the garden weeded tomorrow. Have to check the cows and their calves again tomorrow and make sure they have enough salt. I will post a photo another day of them licking at their salt blocks. They are like some people, in that they really, really enjoy and need salt.
It's been a long day so off to bed for me for now ....

Thank goodness the week is winding down

Thursday, March 07, 2013

This has been a very long week. And I will be glad to see the weekend and catch up on some extra sleep.
Thanks to all that are reading my blogs. I started this as a committment for the 5% Challenge and I can't believe how much knowing I should/have to blog is helping keep me motivated to continue on with my workouts.

Had a baby calf to feed milk to tonite - somehow he got separated from his Momma - all is well now and they are together in their own little pen, warm and dry and happy. Momma cow spent a lot of time mooing and licking him off, thought she was going to lick his little ears right off she was so happy to see him again.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day... emoticon

Glad to hear that you are feeling positively motivated to the 5% Challenge. Go STARS!

I am so happy to hear about the calf and its' Mum getting back together in their warm, cozy nest. Nice to think of the calf getting a "licking" in a GOOD way.

Where is spring??

Thursday, March 07, 2013

Another busy day today with not much time to blog. Really have to get to my daily exercise. Since I am also participating in another healthy living challenge beside the Winter 5% Challenge I do have to keep up the daily fitness routine. I really prefer to exercise in the a.m. so will be happy when these next few weeks go by - not that I am wishing my life away.

Have lots of time to think/ponder/contemplate on my drive to and from work each day. I try to take that time to focus on what I want to acheive each week and how I will reach those goals.

Time to go and check on my cows and then off to bed for me.

The photo today is of the trucks at the log yard where I am working for three weeks. Lots of problems again today as there is so little room for unloading logs and so much mud (you can't really see that in the photo) seemed like lots of the guys needed a hug (ha! ha!) today as things were just not going their way.

good luck to everyone on their healthy living journeys.

A little bit of cowgirl logic before I head out - "When in doubt, let your horse do the thinking!!!"

I love the logic!!!! Although I'm probably in real trouble because I don't have a horse...

Good on you that you are balancing so many different responsibilities and continue to focus on your healthy goals too. Very fine.

Hope you have a good rest and that tomorrow is less muddy for the log trucks.

Day 4

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

Yeah me .... I am blogging again.

Feeding the other night in a snowstorm - they are probably wondering what the heck is up

Another busy day at work with the log trucks. No new calves today and no snow so that is a bonus.

Stayed with my healthy eating and my exercise plan AND remembered to drink lots of water. Had a shake for breakfast with some veggies and an apple for a snack and a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch. Slow cooker was ready when I got back in for supper. Always seems comforting to come in to the smell of food cooking.

I have a little plaque in my kitchen that says "Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die tomorrow". I try to stay positive every day and follow that philosophy. In other words it is the ride, not the destination that is to be enjoyed.

Ohhhh, those poor animals.....out in the coold.......poor things...

I am so happy I have been blessed and live where it is warm and sunny. Well most the time that is. I do not like cold at all.

Glad U had a good day. Ma

Brrrr. That pic looks like it's really cold where you live. I remember a gal in Idaho who had a ranch. She was exhilarated and fatigued every calving season.
I love that plague!!! I may make it my new mantra haha.

Again, another great blog. I love the wintry, hopeful (calves), beautiful snow that will melt into green, lush pastures. Or, at least that's what my imagination tells me as I look at it. The slow cooker is a great tool to make it easier to create healthy meals.

Keep on keeping on. You obviously remember to Enjoy the Journey.

Day #3 of blogging :)

Monday, March 04, 2013

I do believe knowing that I am supposed to blog as part of the 5% Challenge this week is helping keep me motivated with my fitness. Woo Hoo!!!

So last nite as part of my fitness routine I did some of this emoticon and this emoticon

Up early this morning as I had a call to go to work an hour from home at a log scale yard (the regular guy was away). So checked all my cows and babies - all was well with three new babies already by 5:30 a.m. A busy day away with equipment breakdowns at the log yard, truckers with very short tempers and computer issues emoticon and wouldn't you know it, I was about 10 miles from home when I got pulled over for speeding so now have a fine to pay!!!

All is well though once I am home - I guess home really is where the heart is emoticon

More babies to look after tonite but no time to post photos, will try and do that tomorrow.

Stayed on track with my healthy eating today - packed my lunch and healthy snacks to work and had leftovers for supper. Will put something in the slow cooker before I leave to work tomorrow. Have also been focusing on my fitness and managing to fit my Ten Minute workout in every day and am able to make time for 2 workouts each day. Always amazes me that it is so easy to procratinate and not workout and yet, once I get working out or am finished I feel so great.

Off to do my workout, then check my cows, the to get my beauty sleep as tomorrow is another busy day. emoticon

Cow getting her beauty rest !!!

Anyway U go Gurl. And by all means post thos pics when U get a chance. MA

What a full day. And, great focus on healthy food and fitting in fitness too. Sorry to hear about the speeding ticket, tho' I learned after my speeding ticket a few months ago that my no more speeding above the speed limit has increased my gas mileage. I guess I needed the speeding ticket to focus on the positives of slower going...better MPG, fewer $$$ at the gas station, and a much safer drive wherever I go.

I imagine that you were anxious to get home to the new babies and make sure everything went OK at home during the day. Totally understandable. You are doing so many good, good things. Keep on keeping on. Go STARS.
