I have to say that when I first started this journey I wasn't sure how I would keep myself motivated, and little did I know that I would continue to add different challenges to my schedule to do it.
I try to not overwhelm myself with too many at a time, but I've always got a few going at once. Of course one helps the other and vise versa.
I have blogged before about my Healthy U 12 week Challenge and we just had our 8th week weigh in. I am currently in the running for the money at the end, but the people in position 1 & 2 had a huge loss this week. My 3 pounds two weeks in a row didn't even catch me up. However, I'm 19.8 pounds doen in that challenge and happy with those results! As much as their unhealthy large percentage drops are frustrating to me, I also realize I'm the healthier one losing at a regular pace and not to much at a time. After all I want to lose that fat not my muscle.
I started another fitness class at the local college called Interval Training. I encouraged one of my co-workers who is also in the Healthy U challenge with me to also take the class. I had to laugh when he told me yesterday that he wanted to strangle me because he was so sore, but then he went a weighed in and he wanted to hug me because he did so well. It makes me happy to see him succeeding.
The other challenges I'm in are a team based one with the Biggest Loser Summer Challenge - Go Mahogany Melters! That requires weekly weigh in's as well and will go on past the Healthy U challenge. I think being accountable to others is also helping me stay very focused. The other team challenge is with the Positive Vibes team and keeps me striving for more fruits and vegetables. Both the team challenges also focus on exercise, which the class helps to fulfill too.
I love the thought of having a Fantastic Friday. The whole idea came to me from a stranger that I now have nicknamed Mrs. Fantastic!
A couple of years ago our company changed their vacation policy and the employees could only accumulate 1 week over their normal yearly vacation time. If we do not keep our time below this amount we forfeit additional time.
Anyone who had amounts over what would be allotted had an option of using the extra up prior to a particular date or taking a pay out. I choose to use mine by taking every Friday off for most of one summer. That was a Fantastic Summer of Fridays.
Weather permitted I would take my dog on a nice long walk. There was this one house where a lady and gentleman sat out on their porch many of fridays I was walking my dog. They always waved and said hello. One day I asked her how she was and she said "Fantastic" with such enthusiasm that I walked away with a smile on my face and thinking that it was too bad more people didn't have that feeling or enthusiasm for that matter.
I have made it a habit to try to have more Fantastic Friday's, and the feeling that she gave me that day is right here at the surface of my memory. Let's all strive to be Fantastic and spread that to others! My wish to all is to have a Fantastic Friday leading to a Fantastic Weekend!
Iíve been meaning to get this blog written for the last few days. I hit my 3 month mark with SP last week and felt the need to evaluate the goals I had set at the start of my program and adjust where needed. I also needed to reward myself for my successes since that was a step in the plan.
Iím happy to say that I have achieved my weight loss goals of losing 8 Ė 10 pounds a month, coming in at 29 pounds down! I will leave that goal as is for now since I still have a ways to go with my weight loss.
I also had a cardio goal of 3 Ė 4 times a week wanting to increase that to 5 Ė 7 days a week by the summer. I too have achieved that and now I have changed that goal to just do cardio 5 Ė 7 times a week.
I hadnít set a strength goal so I have now added that I want to do strength exercises 3 times a week. Although I hadnít put this goal in originally I have been trying to get more in and havenít succeeded. Hopefully that will change now since Iíve set it on my page and written it in this blog!
As for the rewards, my granddaughter and I went shopping yesterday and although I did spend more money on her than myself, I bought myself a new pair of sneakers and workout pants for my up coming fitness class that begins in June.
The bigger reward is a mini vacation to Maine, one of my favorite places to go. I have that set for my half way mark. I may not get there right at that time, but I will hopefully book it then.
I receive the Healthy reflections email everyday and post a journal entry from it that often times is a reflection of the article. I have had a few that I received when I needed them most. Today was one of those days.
I get on my scale way to often, but I feel it keeps me going in the right direction because it keeps me accountable. I had a great weigh in through the weekend and even Monday morning. Today was another story though. I got on that scale and was not happy with the results.
Today's healthy reflections mentions giving yourself credit for what you have accomplished and not being to blinded by just what you want to accomplish. I really wanted to hit that 30 pound mark this week - I still may, but if not than 28 or 29 pounds is still a great accomplishment.
I consider myself and active sparker, and i like to get the most out of this site and sparking as I can. Needless to say, I started right out joining a few teams and have added more and removed some based on what they offer and if I connect to the other members or not.
In one of my teams a member brought to our attention another team with a 10 week challenge that is going to start soon. It is with the Biggest Loser Summer Challenge team. I decided to check it out and ended up putting my name on the very long waiting list.
Our Pre Challenge is to post a blog listing 5 things you would do to stay motivated during the 10 weeks of the Summer Challenge!
Here is that blog -
First, a "challenge" to me is motivation. This particular challenge is team based which puts that added feeling of I need to support the team, this is not only for me. I hope my teammates will feel the same wayas I do. I love a strong and capetitive team!
Second and third, I currently track my nutrition and fitness in the trackers and shoot to stay within my calorie range and also fulfill my fitness minutes so I will continue to do this. It has helped me to stay on track this far and I have confidence it will continue to.
Fourth, I will be joining another fitness class at the local college this summer that will keep me doing different excercise than my normal lunchtime walks and evening bike rides. I will continue to maintain the walks and rides as well and with better weather I hope to get more of this in.
The fifth motivator for me is the changes I see in myself so far and I know I will enjoy the benefits to come of less weight and more activity. There is no stopping me now!
I have just recently finished the Spring Fitness Challenge at our local college and will enjoy adding a new one to my list. The other challenge I'm involved in is a Healthy U challenge that requires weekly weigh ins at a local facility and cash prizes. I'm not all about the prizes, just about losing weight at a healthy pace and hopefully losing every week. This challenge only has a few more weeks so it is important to make sure I have other things in my aim.
