Evaluation at 4 months

Sunday, June 20, 2010

This past week was the 4 month mark of me being on SparkPeople. Thursday was my official weigh in day and was also the firs weigh in during those 4 months that I did not have a loss. I did think of my original goals and what I had wanted to lose and since I made those goals I felt ok with these results. When I got the email to move to Stage 4 and read the explanation I felt ready to move.

I feel as if I have made a mental change as well as the physical change that I知 still in the process of making. The mental change is so important to continued success and to moving forward with the healthy living mentality of this program. However, I am aware that there is still much too both my mental and physical improvements and I知 going to be working on these the rest of my life.

In this same week I have also taking on the role as Leader to me Spark Class Team. I received an email from one of the two original leaders that they wanted to step down. Something made me reply that I would do it. I am still trying to think of ways to get the team more locked in and will hopefully succeed with this endeavor. I do feel all alone with leading the team though because I知 not experienced at it and the other leaders are official gone.

I have achieved my goals in weight loss.
I have added more strength and cardio.
I usually eat with calorie range.
I have now taken on a new way to spread the Spark with my leader role.

We will see what is to come!

You are going to make an excellent Team Leader as you are always inspiring us.
Your blog was a reminder of how my evaluation point went. My scale frequently halts progress ( and even creeps up a little briefly ) but as I stand with my fellow Sparkers and continue to eat sensibly and exercise, the pounds do eventually return to a meltaway state ;)

You continue to be awesome. It is workin!

Spark Lifestyle Change Strategy #5

Sunday, June 13, 2010

Action Step 3:
In your SparkPage blog, write about a life issue that might cause emotional eating

My job can be a source of emotional eating for me. I知 an IT manager and take care of all the computers, printers, phones, and communications that go along with them. Some day痴 life is easy when everything runs as it should, and then there are those days when it seems everyone needs my help. I find that when there is a major problem, like last week when updates on my server caused our security access system to stop running. Our access system runs the doors that allow us entry into the building. It has a buffer, but I知 not sure the length of the buffer. All day I was very uptight about finding a fix, but I needed to wait for the security company to assist. I reached for a piece of chocolate I had a miniature dark chocolate that had been sitting on my desk for 2 weeks. I知 glad there was only 1 available to me.

Since starting SparkPeople I致e become more aware of recognizing these triggers and I always try to reach for a healthier snack, but there are times when I知 not as good about this as others. When the stress is the highest I usually want that sweet treat. I have improved with even my sweet treats though; I am more aware of portion sizes and allow myself a little treat once in a while.

You surely do have a stressful job. I am also in charge of a railway accounting department, and sometimes handling people is difficult. They always expect you to be considerate and sweet, otherwise, you become a monster.
For a long time I have recongnized my bad habits and anxious eating. Currently, I am trying to cut down food amounts and through SP I have been measuring every single ounce or spoon of whatever goes into my mouth. It surely has helped a lot.
I went through major hip surgery last January and my doctor warned me that if I did not loose over 80 pounds, I would have problems. Now, after ten months, 40 of those pounds are gone but I still have at least 40 more to throw away. And I usse the throwing verb, because someone, making fun of my constant diets, said that when you loose something, you always try to find it back and that was what happened with lost weight. So am not loosing weight any more, I am throwing it away.

  Dear Rainbowfalls:
I think you have a superb attitude, healthy and practical. As a leader and achiever you are hard on yourself and detailed. But you will undoubtably win your quest for the desired fitness you are reaching for. An apparent success is evident in your outlook and I high five you while you keep in front of yourself the tools supplied by Spark and the vision of your desired image. You are going to look & feel differently than you have in a long time! emoticon

Challenges help keep me in line!

Thursday, June 03, 2010

I have to say that when I first started this journey I wasn't sure how I would keep myself motivated, and little did I know that I would continue to add different challenges to my schedule to do it.

I try to not overwhelm myself with too many at a time, but I've always got a few going at once. Of course one helps the other and vise versa.

I have blogged before about my Healthy U 12 week Challenge and we just had our 8th week weigh in. I am currently in the running for the money at the end, but the people in position 1 & 2 had a huge loss this week. My 3 pounds two weeks in a row didn't even catch me up. However, I'm 19.8 pounds doen in that challenge and happy with those results! As much as their unhealthy large percentage drops are frustrating to me, I also realize I'm the healthier one losing at a regular pace and not to much at a time. After all I want to lose that fat not my muscle.

I started another fitness class at the local college called Interval Training. I encouraged one of my co-workers who is also in the Healthy U challenge with me to also take the class. I had to laugh when he told me yesterday that he wanted to strangle me because he was so sore, but then he went a weighed in and he wanted to hug me because he did so well. It makes me happy to see him succeeding.

The other challenges I'm in are a team based one with the Biggest Loser Summer Challenge - Go Mahogany Melters! That requires weekly weigh in's as well and will go on past the Healthy U challenge. I think being accountable to others is also helping me stay very focused. The other team challenge is with the Positive Vibes team and keeps me striving for more fruits and vegetables. Both the team challenges also focus on exercise, which the class helps to fulfill too.

Challenges and I are still going strong!

Fantastic Friday

Friday, May 28, 2010

I love the thought of having a Fantastic Friday. The whole idea came to me from a stranger that I now have nicknamed Mrs. Fantastic!

A couple of years ago our company changed their vacation policy and the employees could only accumulate 1 week over their normal yearly vacation time. If we do not keep our time below this amount we forfeit additional time.

Anyone who had amounts over what would be allotted had an option of using the extra up prior to a particular date or taking a pay out. I choose to use mine by taking every Friday off for most of one summer. That was a Fantastic Summer of Fridays.

Weather permitted I would take my dog on a nice long walk. There was this one house where a lady and gentleman sat out on their porch many of fridays I was walking my dog. They always waved and said hello. One day I asked her how she was and she said "Fantastic" with such enthusiasm that I walked away with a smile on my face and thinking that it was too bad more people didn't have that feeling or enthusiasm for that matter.

I have made it a habit to try to have more Fantastic Friday's, and the feeling that she gave me that day is right here at the surface of my memory. Let's all strive to be Fantastic and spread that to others! My wish to all is to have a Fantastic Friday leading to a Fantastic Weekend!

3 months - Evaluating and rewarding goals.

Sunday, May 23, 2010

I致e been meaning to get this blog written for the last few days. I hit my 3 month mark with SP last week and felt the need to evaluate the goals I had set at the start of my program and adjust where needed. I also needed to reward myself for my successes since that was a step in the plan.

I知 happy to say that I have achieved my weight loss goals of losing 8 10 pounds a month, coming in at 29 pounds down! I will leave that goal as is for now since I still have a ways to go with my weight loss.

I also had a cardio goal of 3 4 times a week wanting to increase that to 5 7 days a week by the summer. I too have achieved that and now I have changed that goal to just do cardio 5 7 times a week.

I hadn稚 set a strength goal so I have now added that I want to do strength exercises 3 times a week. Although I hadn稚 put this goal in originally I have been trying to get more in and haven稚 succeeded. Hopefully that will change now since I致e set it on my page and written it in this blog!

As for the rewards, my granddaughter and I went shopping yesterday and although I did spend more money on her than myself, I bought myself a new pair of sneakers and workout pants for my up coming fitness class that begins in June.

The bigger reward is a mini vacation to Maine, one of my favorite places to go. I have that set for my half way mark. I may not get there right at that time, but I will hopefully book it then.
