Action Step 3:
In your SparkPage blog, write about a life issue that might cause emotional eating
My job can be a source of emotional eating for me. Iím an IT manager and take care of all the computers, printers, phones, and communications that go along with them. Some dayís life is easy when everything runs as it should, and then there are those days when it seems everyone needs my help. I find that when there is a major problem, like last week when updates on my server caused our security access system to stop running. Our access system runs the doors that allow us entry into the building. It has a buffer, but Iím not sure the length of the buffer. All day I was very uptight about finding a fix, but I needed to wait for the security company to assist. I reached for a piece of chocolate Ė I had a miniature dark chocolate that had been sitting on my desk for 2 weeks. Iím glad there was only 1 available to me.
Since starting SparkPeople Iíve become more aware of recognizing these triggers and I always try to reach for a healthier snack, but there are times when Iím not as good about this as others. When the stress is the highest I usually want that sweet treat. I have improved with even my sweet treats though; I am more aware of portion sizes and allow myself a little treat once in a while.
