The Good and the Bad

Sunday, April 04, 2010

It is a little sad to not have family over for Easter. However, I at least was able to have time with my sons on separate days this week. Sometimes the individual time is better for quality purposes.

I will hopefully get a good yard work exercise in along with my regular scheduled exercise. I also have some very nutritious meals planned so I don't have to worry about over doing the eating.

I hope everone has a Healthy Easter.

I missed being with my son for Easter, but he had a wedding to attend in NC. We had a laid back quiet day, enjoyed time in the park. Seemed just right this year...

It always makes me sad when I cannot share a holiday with my mom! I hope you have a peaceful day and enjoy your gardening!

It is always good to be with loved ones. Even if they are not around today you will be able to remember them as you work in the garden.

Have a great day and hope the spring is bringing lots of blooms to you.

God Bless

Some days there isn't much time.

Saturday, April 03, 2010

I wasn't going to write this as a blog, but we have a challenge in one of my teams that gives me points for blogs. I would like to post one everyday, but I'm afraid I will run out of things to Blog about. The journal entry points are easy because I just write a little about the reflection email or something about my journey.

Today I had to run around early because we were having my son's family over for a cookout. We are still having very nice weather for this time of year. I didn't have enough time to get my regular planned exercise in so I had to make do with the little time I had. I took a quick ride on my bike and it was great to get some time in, but even with my "better" seat it still caused some pain and my back was not too happy with me either. The recumbent bike I have is much more comfortable. I will be glad when my back is completely better.

Even though the exercise wasn't as much as I wanted to get in, my nutrition was right on.

I will vow tonight to make sure to get in more strength tomorrow, and I also hope to get more yard work time. I do love to work outside in my gardens in the spring.

Raised Garden

Friday, April 02, 2010

I was asked about my raised garden so I thought I would post a picture of one. We built ours last year and this will be our first year of planting in it. I'm so looking forward to it, but here in NY we must wait until May. We have had a fabulous Spring so far though. Way above the normal temperatures.

Love it!!! We saw 2 rabbits this morning in the yard, near our garden! I sent our Golden out to chase them!!! Will have to think about putting some type of ugly fence up! Thanks for the SparkGoodie and for the idea! Can't wait to hear how your raised garden does!!! It's gorgeous!

emoticon WOW this is way better and way higher than any raised garden I've ever had! How can you afford that much potting soil? Or do you just add dirt to the bottom? Love the idea of being able to walk into the center of it. Wish I could have one here in cold and blowing 5K ft mountains! (live in an apt ya know) Thanks for the pic Barbara

Thanks for posting this for me. I really like it--I think it would work really well for me. I quit gardening when I could no longer get down to plant, weed, and pick produce. This would be easy on my back and knees. I will do more checking into them.

Hope you have a wonderful Easter!

We had a raised garden built for us last year also. Hopefully we'll have a much better year than our dismal first year with the tomato blight, etc.!

The Last Dance

Thursday, April 01, 2010

Last night was the last dance class. I was feeling a little sad because I enjoyed going every week and learning new moves. The official last dance was Hip Hop. I guess there are many different versions of Hip Hop. Actually my granddaughter and I tried one on the exercise channel one day that was quite a bit different then what we did last night. I'm not very coordinated so I looked quite funny doing the crab walk, the washing machine, and shimmy. My hips do not move that way yet.

I do have to say that I feel I made progress throughout the weeks of class. I have been steadily adding other exercise and i found last nights class was easier to get through then my first week. On week one I thought I would die half way through. In time I may actually be able to shimmy.

I'm proud of you for even trying! The shimmy is the only one that sounds familiar! I agree, you should do it again! Sounds like a lot of fun! emoticon

Kickboxing

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Last night the exercise of the evening in my Spring Fitness Challenge class was Kickboxing. When she first told us this I was not so sure I would enjoy it. I have had back spasms being worked out by my physical therapist so I thought maybe the kicking part would hurt. I was prepared to do a modified version, but was surprised that I was able to do most of the moves without any issues. I'm not quite as bouncy as the instructor, but for my level I do alright.

What I enjoy about these fitness classes is that the instructor takes the time to show us the correct moves, we practise these and then she puts them together in an aerobic type of exercise regime. It has been fun and I work up quite the sweat.

Sounds like you had a great work out. I used to love kickboxing. If you keep at it, you will watch your weight go down and a very sexy belly and butt start to appear!
