I'm out of shape.

I shouldn't beat myself up. I had gotten away from exercise last year due to injuries and packed on a ton of weight. I should realize I can not do what I could before and I must build myself up again. Instead I took three fitness classes this week, back to back and I am a tired and worn out puppy. On top of that I also walked at lunch everyday this week even though my feet started yelling at me on the second day.

I think maybe I need a day of rest. emoticon

It's human nature to want to make up for lost time, but we all have to start up again at square one. Easy does it and you'll be back to where you were before you know it. Patience has been one of the toughest lessons for me, but the cultivation of it is very helpful in the long run. Hang in there.

Its hard to face the facts sometimes. I know my mind still wants to go as fast as I once did but I know I cant. That's ok tho, because I will and so will you. We'll get there!

Sounds like you do need a day (or 2) of rest. Our bodies will only tolerate so much before they let us know to STOP. Time to re-evaluate your exercise perhaps?

If it becomes too painful and adverse we ALL risk bailing out of our workout regimen...a break and re-thinking your approach may be in order...!

There's nothing wrong with resting your body for a day! Just make sure your food choices are good, and get plenty of rest. Overworking yourself won't make the weight go away any quicker. We all need rest days. They're good for us, but we just gotta make sure we're up and at it again the next day.

Spring Fitness Roll

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

I have been with SparkPeople a little over 4 weeks now. Prior to finding the site, which I came across when I read a review on the book "Spark", I had signed up for the class I take at our local college called "Dance You Way to Weight Loss". I have blogged about my dance classes a couple of times. The instructor of this class is very intense and gets us moving, grooving and sweating our butts off.

I had been contemplating signing up for another one that this instructor had a part in which is called "Spring Fitness Challenge". Last week I spoke to her about the class and she thought I would enjoy it. I'm trying to make sure I have options when it comes to exercise. I have read many articles that says to change it up so I want to make sure I do. I signed up and it starts tonight and runs twice a week for six weeks.

The nice thing about the fitness class is there is one hour of nutrition and one hour of fitness. I think it will benefit me in many ways.

Last week in my Binghamton Team, DDorn posted another Healthy U Challenge and that one you have to be chosen to participate in. They have to limit the number of participants so they pick in lottery format. Myself and four other co-workers have applied. I hope we get in.

Wish me luck tonight. On top of the 1 hour class with the fitness queen (she is intense) I took a 40 minute walk at lunch that was at a very good pace.

1st day of Spring

Saturday, March 20, 2010

I don't remember a 1st day of spring being this nice weather wise here in upstate NY in quite a while. I spent hours outside cleaning my garden beds, racking leaves, applying mulch, and cleaning my pond. The sun made me do it. I realize that we could still get snow and more than likely will, but I am psyched that we have had such pleasant weather lately.

I am a little on the sore side, but I'm feeling like I can do more everyday. I just keep adding a little more exercise everyday and I am getting stronger. I feel more confident that I can do this!

The Weekly Dance Class

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Tonight took us back in time to a time I do remember, but not one I danced too. We learned Disco and Retro. I believe they are close to the same thing except called different names depending on the generation. The closest I got to a Disco establishment back in the day was to work in one as a waitress. At least tonight we didn't have the flashing lights. However, we did bust out a couple of moves that reminded me of John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever". The arms up in the air and the hips a shaking. I'm sure I didn't look as smooth as he did, as a matter of fact I just haven't quite found my hip action. This is one thing I can say about Disco, it is a heck of a workout. It got my heart rate up, my face flushed and my hair wet with sweat. Hopefully tomorrows weigh in will show some results.

I encourage you all to bust out a move.

Ok, I have to ask... Where do you go for your dance classes? I love dancing - know it's awesome exercise. But I don't have any dance partner and am tight on finances. So if you know someplace reasonable that takes singles for the dancing, please let me know.

Keep up with your dancing - those calories drop away with all the fun.

Ahhhh...Disco. I took every dance class offered at our community college in the early 70's. Disco was a workout even then and I was in excellent shape. One thing about Disco, it was and always will be a lot of fun.

Have you done the Polka yet? That was my absolute favorite.

There seems to be a shortage of dance icons. The hula is cool too.

Who Inspires You?

Monday, March 15, 2010

In "TainerJame's" Blog he asked who our inspiration is and who we inspire. These were my thoughts:

My biggest inspiration came from my Nana. She has been dead for over 20 years, but her guidance still leads me on. Ironically I have been thinking about her a lot lately. I'm not sure if I'm looking to her for strength or if i just see her body in mine. My Nana was a very heavy lady. She loved to bake and I loved to eat her goodies. When I look in the mirror I definitely see my Nana's arms and heaviness(I loved her flabby arms when I was growing up). I carry my weight everywhere and so did she. I would be honored to be as wonderful of a person as she was, but I do not want to remain the same shape.

Since joining SP I have been getting to know some of the wonderful people here that are a different type of inspiration for me. I thank all of you who reach out to us "newbies" and make us feel welcome.

As for who I inspire, I hope other members of SP when I've made some real progress. I also am hopeful that I inspire my children to be good people.

I loved my cinnamon roll baking grandma too, and when I look in the mirror I see her face. It is kinda of reassuring.

I loved reading about your Nana. I just lost my grandmother two weeks ago, so the topic is very fresh in my mind. How beautiful that you still feel her presence.
