FitBit !!!

Thursday, December 20, 2012

I have been wanting a fitbit for sometime now, but decided to wait and ask my husband for it for either my birthday or Christmas. Well he gave it to me today! I am so excited and hoping this will get me moving through those winter months. I have had to wait until my feet were cleared from surgery and I just had my appointment yesterday. He says all is good and now i can start tracking those steps!

This morning I got right on the web and set up my account and linked it with Spark people. Doing that put me in a new Team for Fitbit! I think this will give me added incentive to walk, walk, walk... I love to walk and have missed it very much this year. This will also track my sleep and I'm looking forward to seeing some results for that too.

I wish you all a very happy and healthy season!

I think my FitBit has definitely motivated me to move more, although obviously it's still up to ME to actually do it - still, keeping track with FitBit makes it more fun - good luck with your new toy!

Adopt a Family

Thursday, November 29, 2012

Our workplace likes to raise money and adopt a couple of families for Christmas. We work with a local SOS shelter to find families in need. One of the things we do to get money donations is we put raffle items together and sell tickets to win the prizes. We have some really nice items to bid on. I of course have made and donated a blanket for the raffle table.

The other thing I do every year is find my son's name on a Christmas tree and buy for that child with my son in mind. It makes me feel good to give to a Joshua every year. This year I decided since I had the foot surgery that I might not find his name so I took one of the adopt a family kids (a 13yr old boy) and I bought him clothes as another donation to our family. I had my granddaughter help me with picking things out since she will be 13 in January and as she said "knows what boys that age wear". I find it also teaches her about giving to others. The buying has also put holiday spirit in gear.

Since I like to share my blankets with you I have attached a photo.

I hope you are all getting into that holiday spirit!

We always 'adopt' a family at Thanksgiving and Christmas, also donate to a couple of shelters that deal with families. It's a big part of our holiday celebrations

The men are cooking

Thursday, November 22, 2012

It almost doesn't feel real, but this year my Thanksgiving meal is being prepared by my husband and middle son. Thankfully, they are both very good cooks and I'm sure this meal with be more than wonderful. We are having the basic turkey, but our stuffing will have our homemade pork and apple sausage added to it. I will probably make that with the help of my husband since I can't be on my feet for too long because I had foot surgery less than a week ago. My boys don't always come for Thanksgiving anymore with other families to see, but this year they will be with us and for that I am Thankful. I am also thankful that I have someone else to do most of the cooking since I'm restricted with the foot.

The foot is healing well and the one thing the doctor insists is that I don't overdo it and so I won't. I want all these foot issues behind me so I can take walks again. My goal is to rest through the weekend too. I'll have to cyber shop!

I hope everyone has a very Thankful day - I know I am thankful for many things.

Carnegie Hall

Saturday, October 27, 2012

There's one side of my family that is very musically talented. They have it in their blood. My cousin teaches music and has been given the opportunity to take 25 students to Carnegie Hall to perform in a Christmas musical with Jane Seymore.

She has wanted one of my blankets so this gave me the perfect chance to make the one I had been thinking about doing since seeing this pattern. I wasn't sure it would be bright enough with the black background, but those colors of the notes are enough with the gold backing. Black and gold were our high school colors and so the theme was perfect. I really like the way this one turned out too.

Horses

Friday, October 12, 2012

I loved the colors of the horses on this one. I made it for someone who volunteers at Cloud 9, which is a place that uses horses for therapy with disabled children. My blankets usually have a meaning behind them to match the person I give them too. Someone told me I was good at matching them to the person.
