Balloon landing

Friday, August 03, 2012

I had to run back out this evening to run an errand and my timing was great. I saw quite a few balloons in flight during the first launch of our annual Balloon and Spedie Fest. The weather is always a big factor on whether they will go up. On my way back home I parked in the local Lowes parking lot so I could get some pictures. I saw one balloon behind the store and at one point didn't think it would make it over the building, but it did and then landed very close to where I was parked. The landing line they throw out for the chases to stop the help land the balloon fell out of the basket and so the chasers had to run after the basket and bring it back down. It was pretty exciting.

Here are a couple of pics I took Ė the green one was just going by and the other one you will see landed in the parking lot. As I drove back home I saw many more landed in parking lots and even a side road. I think the heat made many come down sooner than they expected.

It's always so great when the hot-air balloons are blown up through our neck of the woods! :-)

I enjoyed catching a few during the Sat. morning launch on my way to a cycling event in Owego. The one that looked like a house, including a chimney was so cool!

Awesome! I love hot air balloons and went up in one while in AZ. I will never forget it as it was one of the most beautiful experiences. It's so quiet up there. We went over 6,000 feet up. Big planes above us and small ones below, then down low enough to almost touch cactus tops and see jack rabbits and other animals scurrying on the ground. What a thrill! Thanks for the pics. You were in the right place at the right time.

Got to wave at several and could see the people well! We are someday going to go to the huge Oct. balloon fest in NM.

Gentle Aqua

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

I joined a gym at a local hotel yesterday so I could use the pool. The gym is very new and is not like any hotel gym Iíve seen before. It is in a separate building from the hotel and connects via an enclosed walkway. It has separate rooms for classes, like spinning, yoga, and other types of aerobics. Then there is the workout area with machines of all kinds.

My surgeon said water exercises would be the best thing for my rehab, so I decided that was what I should do. Swimming laps doesn't interest me, but an aqua class does. Today they had a gentle aqua class geared for people post surgery or with other issues like arthritis. I had to juggle my schedule around a little, but my boss is nice enough to let me work early to make up my time. I loved the class Ė it was perfect to start the process of working out again. The best thing is that once I get in better condition I will be able to take the more cardio aqua classes. Iíll start with the gentle and move up to aqua cardio when the doctor gives the ok.

They also offer an aqua zumba Ė now that sounds like a boat load of fun too! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Christmas in July

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Have you ever celebrated Christmas in July? There was a year many years ago when a co-worker and I did. We decorated our offices and played Christmas music all day. We also bought presents for each other and another co-worker bought us one too. It was a very fun and carefree time. The reason we did this was because we were converting our mainframe system to our parents companyís system and it was a very stressful time. This eased the stress for us tremendously.

That brings me to todayÖ I walked in and said Bah Humbug and my boss says, ďJuly 25 yep Christmas in July. ď I then saw my co-worker and mentioned our Christmas in July and we both smiled and remembered it fondly. Needleless to say we not have a small amount of decorations out and I have Christmas music playing. It really does something to lift the spirits! The other thing about Christmas music is that it cools you down on these hot days!

The reason I need my spirits lifted is that the stress from trying to get my friendís estate in order, getting his apartment emptied and cleaned has been a difficult. For one the surgery I had three weeks ago limits me from lifting, bending, twisting and basically helping much with the cleanout of the apartment. Thankfully my husband and sons have been right there to pick up the slack. As for the cleaning another friend of Philís offered her services and I was more than grateful to her, since guys donít clean as well as women most of the time.

Last night I was finally able to get the funeral home to agree to the arrangements for his body. Since I wasnít a relative and his 85 year old aunt didnít want to sign off on anything then they had to wait for the courts to appoint me the Administrator of the estate and also to sign my life away to get this accomplished. I didnít think much about doing it when I was on my way to the funeral home, but boy did I feel sad and alone when I got done.

So back to my music to lift these spirits a bit today.

OH MERRY CHRISTMAS IN JULY Val - you are a very good friend - your reward is down in the GOOD BOOK for sure. i hope all goes smoothly from now on and your friend can rest as he should.
it is funny you mention about the time of the year etc - i have a friend whose son is in the navy and for all the times holidays come and he is not home - she saves it all up. once she had her christmas tree up and ready for over a year - and all the presents etc were under it. she also held thanksgiving over until he was able to be back.
and that is her coping skills too - waiting for him to be there so she can truly be happy on the holiday no matter when the celebration happens.
take it easy and get back 100% to health - emoticon

This person who died was blessed to have such good friends! The love and support you offered him was better than Christmas to him. You may not have been a relative to him but you were his family and would grieve, plus you are going through the normal down time after surgery. It sounds like you push yourself a lot! Take time for you and realize that you have to give yourself time to recover. You are special and you deserve it. emoticon

Merry Christmas! I love Christmas and have many years left a small corner in my house with lighted tree, music and christmas cards. I would go there for my daily devotions and meditations and I loved it...Didn't do it this year and I often think I should have! Our daughter [31] is making jellys and sent a Christmas in July pkg to her cousin... I think it is great!!! Had fun at the post Office with that note on the outside "Do not open 'til Christmas"

God bless this time of your life - the grieving, the responsibilities and the adjustments in life to surgery and loss all at the same time and yet you are plowing through and working ...Proud of you girl!!! Linda born in 49 in Washington state

Time for an update

Sunday, July 08, 2012

I am happy with the surgery, and have no left over nerve pain. The bit of pain I have is nothing compared to how I felt before going in to surgery. Sitting is the worse position for me and the doc says don't sit for more then 30 minutes anyway. This has been easy enough to accomplish. I walk straighter than I have in months and that is relieving the upper back muscle pain as well. All in all a worthwhile surgery.

The hardest part for me at this point is that my mind wants to do more then my body is allowed to do. There is no lifting, bending, twisting... Allowed. So I walk a little lay and read and my mind just says hurry up and get better. I know rest is best....

With the death of our friend and me being executor the movement restriction is a pain. I can't drive until the stitches come out and yet I need to get the paperwork started to get his stuff in order. Thankfully, my husband and son have been helping this weekend with the apartment clean out. That is not easy work and I just stay home and wait for the stuff they bring to arrive. There is a lot of paperwork organizing to be done and that is where I focus my attention. I know patience is my friend right now and I will not try to rush things.

I hope you are all doing well. Enough sitting for now for me! emoticon

I've had your surgery before. Definitely follow the doctor's orders. I know how you feel about your mind wanting you to hurry and heal and wanting to do more than your body is ready for. That relief the surgery brings is amazing and makes you feel like you can do anything.....but until you are totally healed you have to take it easy.

I didn't take it easy and now am facing the same surgery again, only on 3 spots instead of just 1. So please please take it slow and easy.
