Monkey Business

Sunday, May 27, 2012

Here is the gift I just made for a little one year old. His dad was my youngest son's best friend so I know his dad was full of monkey business.

I hope you are all having a great weekend. My son's will be here soon for a cookout so I'm just chillin for a few before they arrive. I'm hoping that we stay dry since there is that chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon.

Cute blanket! I am going to a 1st birthday party this Sunday for a friends little boy. It's going to be a monkey theme and he is one adorable little monkey. I know it was a little cool here and mostly sunny yesterday so I hope you escaped any rain.

Love the blanket. Totally forgot about those and how simple they are to make.

Enjoy the cookout. Hope you don't get rained out. We've had pop up showers off and on for a few days. Hoping the rain holds off now so I can finish planting my garden tomorrow morning - then let it rain. Well, I do wish for a nice day for Memorial Day cookouts, although we are not doing one of our own.

Summer Vegetable Tian

Saturday, May 12, 2012

I was looking at new food ideas yesterday on Pinterest and saw this one - it looked so good that I had to get the ingredients and give it a try. I made it slightly different with a regular potato in one half and a sweet potato in the other half. I have to say it was quite scrumptious!

I also had to look up the word tian as I hadn't seen it before: A tian -- a layered, baked vegetable dish.

Here is the picture and link to the dish - I highly recommend it!

A fun past time

Sunday, May 06, 2012

I was given one of these blankets for Christmas one year and decided to make one for my granddaughter. My friend showed me her method and I loved making them so much that I buy fleece all the time and make them for everyone. I have also made a couple for funding raising events for friends. I make them based on the person and what reminds me of them.

This one I made to give to my goddaughter - she loves yellows and pinks so it works for her.

This one is for a fund raiser for a friend whose husband had cancer.

    WoW! They are beautiful.

I've always wanted to do this. I saw it on a show where prisoners were making them for dying prisoners. I'd love to know the details. My grandmother was a quilter unfortunately I was always "too busy" to learn from her.

In loving memory

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

I wrote this poem In loving memory of my son Joshua
Who resides somewhere over the rainbow

The Symbol

I had it placed above my heart
A symbol of what remains
The heart is cracked and bleeding
It tells of my unending pain

Your name is written above a rainbow
That begins within the broken heart
The hope I have of a better place
Where you remain while were apart

The dates of birth and death
Are placed next to the tear of blood
Like the tears Ive cried that form a river
The walls of which overflow and flood

This symbol was created
Not as a reminder, for who would need
But as a picture of my life long sentence
That lies deep inside of me

There are only a few who truly understand
The stories that go untold
How we remember everyday
Those children we long to hold
