Weekend woes

It is harder for me on the weekends when it comes to my calorie count. My husband and I love to cook and we are still working on making it healthier. I guess that is what it is all about. Making changes. He is at least willing to make the change with me so we can at least share meals together. We do love to eat.

One of the things that we love to make from scratch is sausage. We have sausage making parties with friends and relatives. The good news is we make all types of sausage and we control the ingredients. This is something that I will not give up. We both enjoy it very much and it is a part of us.

Today I took lamb sausage out of the freezer for him and I also took turkey burgers out that I wanted to eat. Well when the turkey burgers thawed I realized that I thawed out polish sausage burgers not turkey. The good news is my breakfast and lunch were low enough in calories that I had the extra room for the sausage. The hard part is determining the calories in the sausage that we have made.

Oh well, I'm working on the need for perfectionism and will just have to take the closest guess I can.

    Hey, no one said you had to give up what you love just to make this work. Just remember moderation is the key. I refuse to give up most of the foods I eat. I just eat less of them now, and it works.

As a fellow perfectionist, I keep the mantra "Pick your battles" in my head as much as possible. Some things are worth nitpicking over, others are not!

Keep it up! You can do this!

    Sometimes I have a difficult time figuring out calories, too, for things that are homemade. I just go with the closest food item I can find knowing that the difference probably isn't all that much.

BTW, those sausage making parties sound like fun!

Feeling the effects of the Tribal Dance

If there was any question about how hard I worked out last night I have no doubts today. My back is yelling at me, but the good news is I have physical therapy today so hopefully the massage they provide me on my back will work out the kinks.

I still got in my walk this afternoon at lunch, since I have plans tonight with friends. And I did additional stretching for my aching muscles. Wish me luck at dinner tonight. I'm a little afraid.

Dancing the weight off

The third week of "Dace Your Way To Weight Loss" and boy do I see why it is titled that. The class is an hour long and you are moving for 50 minutes of it. We learn sections at a time and then put the sections together. I do alright with the first half of class, but then this old body starts wondering if I'll make it. My feet get a little "toe tied", you know like tongue tied. I'm determined and I keep moving even if I screw up.

Every week the dance is a different one and this week's was "Tribal and Bollywood". I really enjoyed the tribal part and it worked many parts of the body - abs, arms, legs. I would highly recommend a class like this to mix up your workouts. I may have to sign up for the next session too.

    Sound like a lot of fun and a lot of work. emoticon I watch dancing with the stars and have noticed that some of the more heavy contestants always loose some weight dancing. Also its good for your heart.

In my defence I ordered the Girl Scout cookies before I started on my new heathier road to improvment. Today they arrived. The first thing I did was read the Nutrition Facts, interesting name considering they are very non- nutritional. I'll just have to put them in our cafateria - the people I work with will eat them. I'm having almonds as my snack today.

    ha! Same here!! Mine are still tied shut in the bag they were delivered in :) My daughter & I were 'hit on' again at our grocery store - 2 boxes...peanut butter patties (or whatever they've renamed them this year) for her & her brother (ages 12 & 8) --- and the "daisy" something-or-others...for me -- 100 calorie foil packets. I had a packet over the weekend in the a.m. with my coffee and banana and yogurt...not bad - kinda 'cinnamon-y' :) But -- i do *not* want to even open the bag to see the 5 boxes inside...leaving the kids to that :) emoticon

That is kinda funny, as I ordered all my girl scout cookies before all this came about too. However, I did order a box of the 100 cal packs and will try them when I get them. I ordered two boxes of the caramel ones and gave them both away. Those were my faves!

Super Sunny Saturday

What is it about sunshine that makes us want to get out and get moving? I wish I could garden, but since I'm in the NE I will have to settle for a walk with the dog. There is to much snow to start the spring clean up of the yard, but I was looking out my window today dreaming of days to come. Ah sunshine...

    I hear you! It has been beautiful here in MI all week. I have been off work to recover from surgery and it has been enjoyable. I settle for the walks, just remember this season of all that fresh smell will be gone soon, enjoy the moment. emoticon
