Hoping for relief

Sunday, April 01, 2012

Well as some of you know I started the year with foot surgery in hopes that I would be ready to tackle spring with a new bounce in my step. The foot surgery went well, but by the time I got the A-OK to start walking my back flared up. It ends up I have a herniated disc and I have been seeing a Chiropractor for 5 weeks now. He changed my treatment from the regular back manipulation to decompression. I have not seen much of an improvement but it can take 12 - 20 visits for the full treatment. On Friday I also went to a pain management doctor and he gave me a shot of cortisone in the back into the nerve that is causing most of my pain. I could feel the medicine travel right down my leg. It was a little bit painful, but overall I came out with a little relief. Yesterday I was able for function a lot better than I have in the last five weeks, but today I woke with pain and am more uncomfortable again.

Unfortunately, when I started treatment for the back I was told not to do any exercise because it was counterproductive. Thankfully last week he gave me some exercises to do so Iím hopefully on the road to recovery. I am trying to be patient, but it has been awful to have this amount of pain and be so limited in what I can do. On the other hand I have read some members blogs that have issues much worse than I and made progress. I always know it could be worse.

Today is Palm Sunday and even though the date is not correct my Dad died in a car accident on Palm Sunday when he was only 36 years old. I was only six. I think of him today with love and a little bit of sadness.

So sorry about your Dad, and at the tender age of six...geesh! That's hard. Glad you got "some" relief regarding your pain and that it continues to get better.

I missed your blog due to computer issues. I hope your feeling a little better. Not exercising is so challenging and then when you can it is so easy to overdo it!

It is a challenging time to have lost a parent especially at the tender age of 6! I hope you have some good memories of him.

Keep meditating, keep visualising yourself pain free and walking for exercise again..make this your focus, your intent....you know we create our reality, so start creating yours now....look to the other side of that Rainbow, walk through each different colour, with the intent of finding the pain free you on the other side...you know, ENERGY FLOWS WHERE ATTENTION GOES....
Meditate as often as you can, just find the most comfortable position for you, in a darkened room, no interruptions for a least 30 minutes....

Sorry about your Dad, why don't you ask him to help heal you?

Here's a link to a lady you should read about.....

If this doesn't inspire you, then I don't know what will, dearest.....

I can't sleep in my bed, I sleep in my arnchair, I have arthritis in my hips, within 15 minutes of lying down, I'm in agony...So I have to get up again, so now I don't even try, I'm more comfy in the chair, anyway....and no snoring!! lol..

Sending you absent healing, dearest girl...in a lovely pink bubble....all Aqua colours, green & blue.. there it goes, all the way to you..

I stumbled on your page completely by accident (or by design?)... I also suffer from problems with my feet and several ruptured discs so I completely understand your pain. I'm so sorry your physical pain is coupled with the emotional pain from the loss of your dad (I lost my mom several years ago, and it still hurts). I pray the Lord give you strength and ease your pain. Keep your focus on what is higher than ourselves!

Hoping that you will soon find relief from the pain. I've been in similar situations with my sciatic nerve and I understand how far it pulls you down.

I'm sorry to hear of your back pain after your foot surgery. My dd has back problems also and I know how painful it can be. Hopefully the treatments will help. Physical therapy can be a great help. It's hard to lose a dad so young. I know you have special memories today. emoticonI emoticon

Thx goodness for some exercises...I find it tough to believe that there weren't SOME movements which might have been helpful earlier on as well. I'm a big believer in physical therapy.

Certainly a sad day for you, however I'm hoping you can make it a little bittersweet by taking time to celebrate your memories of your father.

Take gentle care of yourself Val!

About to Give up?

Wednesday, March 07, 2012

I started the year with foot surgery in hopes that I could get back to the simple task of walking. I love to walk. I was just getting to the point where the doctor said I could start walking again and my sciatica started hurting again. It has been over three weeks of continuous pain. I have seen a chiropractor and after two visits he sent me for an MRI. I was in so much pain I had my family doctor look at the results and he called me in a prescription for pain and sent everything over to a Neurosurgeon. I have an appointment with them next week. Today I will return to the Chiropractor and see what he suggests. I hate the thought of physical therapy. I went for 5 straight months last year for the foot. I just want to get back to a point where I can move. I've gained all of the 50 pounds back that I lost my first year with SparkPeople.

Do I feel like giving up? Somedays I do...

you are a trooper - all of this serious stuff - let's face it - getting older is not the greatest but what can we do about it.
i have had rheumatoid arthritis since a teenager- and that constant pain you mention is certainly familiar to me.
i have two canes - sometimes i need both, some days only one- and others - mostly in the summer months - i can get by without either.
take care of yourself, and take baby steps - hugs BB emoticon

I suppose that we all have those kinds of days where we feel like giving up. They are tough, huh? That has got to be difficult and frustrating having those setbacks. Do the best that you can and that is all you can expect. When the going gets tough, the tough get going! You can do it! Stay as positivie as possible!! I know sometimes that is hard :)

Oh hey, the SPARK is always there for you! If nothing else, when your body keeps throwing all these monkey wrenches your way over which you have no control you STILL have control over your food choices!

Perhaps re-focusing on this might be the place to invest your energies now? I think our food choices have WAY more impact on our pounds than any physical activity we might pursue.

Keep working with your health care professionals, they WILL get to the bottom of this with your help!

I got my shoe on!

Monday, January 30, 2012

It is the simple things we take for granted. I had foot surgery on January 10th and Iím so happy to walk without my wedged boot. It was interesting when I took those first few steps in my shoes because the boot was angled with my heel being lower than the toes so when I started going forward I felt like I was falling forward. It didnít take me long to get the regular feeling of walking back, but now I can only take baby steps.

I had been suffering with two different foot issues over the last two years. After multiple cortisone injections and months of physical therapy I had to bite the bullet and have surgery. I was thankful that the foot doctor fixed two problems with one surgery.

Now Iím just waiting for the healing and I can move forward with some exercise. It has been a long time since Iíve done much. I love to walk and when I lost that ability I let everything go. It was very destructive and now I need to build back up!

So glad you're healing. Have you thought of doing chair exercises? I know people in my Spark Team do these, as some are wheelchair bound, or can't walk for some reason....

I can find out where to get them if you like, just let me know....

50/50 and Baylee

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

So today I turned 50! I came to work and the girls had hung black streamers and taped black balloons and also black 50 Sucks lollipop's around my office. They also hung a 50 Celebrate sign on my window and when I pulled into the parking lot I could see it - oh and so could everyone else. I had cake and peanut butter cheese cake also given to me with some other wonderful gifts. My husband sent me a dozen Lavender roses (my favorite) - him and the roses.

The other 50 is that I have more than 50 pounds to lose. I am going to do it! I have foot surgery on January 10th and won't be able to get back to walking (which I love to do) for a while after that. By spring I hope to be walking regularly again!

Baylee is a new puppy (4 - 5 months old) that we picked up yesterday. She is half Havenese and half YorkiePoo. My husband really wanted a puppy or a baby for Christmas. My son just married this spring and there is no baby on the way yet, so I decided a puppy it is. He has an animalistic personality - they all love him. Baylee is no different. She has taken over his chair just like our cat Angel did - yeah Angel is not liking the puppy much. Here she is yesterday claiming her spot!

This is her on daddy's leg - her next favorite spot - the poor guy can barely walk around the house. Well he did ask for it!

Yesterday she was so timid, today is is loving her new surroundings. Have a great day!
