Please Light a Candle at 7PM tonight

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Tonight is the Fourteenth Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting Ė light a candle in your home at 7 PM in memory of the children gone too soon.

The Compassionate Friends is a self help group for bereaved parents. This is a group that no one wants to belong too, but those of us that do are glad it exists. It has given me an outlet to help me live after the death of my oldest son. You can believe me when I say at the beginning I did not want to live without him in my life.

Our local chapter has a candle light service tonight to coincide with the National one, which falls on the second Sunday of December. Iím the newsletter editor and treasury for our local chapter and have put some time into the invitations and programs for tonightís event. My youngest son is also reading the Sibling credo during the ceremony so it will be extra special for me to attend.

After yesterdayís stomach bug I had little doubt I would make it tonight. However, I have kept down some toast and tea and think Iím on the mend. That bug took me off my feet. I canít even believe how much I slept yesterday.

So please light a candle for our children at 7PM tonight. The idea is that if a candle is lit in every time zone then there will be a light shining for 24 hours in memory of our children.

I have been doing this each year since my son died. I always mean to join with a group to do it, but end up staying home and lighting candles with my family.

I think of the millions of candles being lit, and picture the wave of light circling the world, and my heart just soars with comfort in our shared grief.

I hope for 2011's Candle Lighting, we can organize our LALO team and participate as a group. I can't imagine anyone else with whom I'd like to share that time.

December Tidbits

Monday, December 06, 2010

As one of our challenges today we were to come up with December trivia; flowers, birthstones, astrological signs and the New moon.

December has two flowers Narcissus and Holly. Narcissus means egotism and formality, while holly means foresight.

The challenge stated there were two December Birthstones, which I would guess are turquoise as the modern one and Zircon as the traditional one. However I found a web site that listed thirteen birthstones for the calendar month of December, or as Sun/Star, Planetary, or Talismanic stones for the Zodiac sign of Sagittarius or Capricorn. Birthstones for the calendar month of December are turquoise, blue topaz, tanzanite, zircon, lapis, onyx, ruby, and chrysoprase and the Zodiac signs of Sagittarius and Capricorn include five additional stones: agate, garnet, amethyst, sapphire, and beryl. That is a lot of stones to pick from !

As mentioned above two astrological signs of December are Sagittarius and Capricorn. I fall right at the end of Sagittarius.

The Sagittarius New Moon is the precursor to the Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse December 21, 2010 - The moon names vary by culture, but I believe the one we are looking for is Cold Moon. The New Moon is the beginning of a new lunar cycle and offers an opportunity for a fresh new beginning in a new sign of the zodiac, with a new focus and energy. In Sagittarius the soul seeks experiences which extend our reach and satisfy our search for adventure and meaning, and the Sagittarius New Moon seeks optimism, confidence, and the development of an inner trust and faith in life itself. December is a good time to begin to realign our intentions for the New Year, and the combination of planetary events in this New Moon can help us to make powerful changes.

Interesting Information that SUNNY238 posted in our (((Sending Skinny Vibes))) Team - Winter Solstice occurs on December 21st (roughly), this year there will be a full moon and a Lunar Eclipse on this day!!

I found that especially interesting as our wedding anniversary is the 22nd. We chose it to signify new beginnings, because it is the day the days start getting longer again. So we will have full moon eclipse the evening before. I hope the sky is clear.

A Funny truth about all those conflicting nutritional studies

Saturday, December 04, 2010

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans..

5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION:Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Very funny! Watching my teenagers develop, I think that an intense high school experience contributes to the mix! We teach them at an early age that they need to work crazy hours and have a lots of stress.

My Morning Rainbow

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

I'm not actually a morning person and so I don't jump out of bed and exercise. However, I like getting up and getting ready for work and then getting there early enough to take a morning walk. I guess I need some up time and my cup of tea before I hit the pavement. I also need the weather forecast while I'm having my cup of tea.

This morning the weather man said we had storms to the west of us and they were moving quickly and would be here early. I made it to work 45 minutes early and the skies to the east looked pleasing so I headed out in that direction. I was just past the halfway mark when I saw some sprinkles in the puddles. As I was making my way back towards work I looked up and saw a beautiful rainbow. You may be able to tell from my Spark name that I love rainbows.

Do you believe in signs? I have a son in heaven and I believe he is somewhere over the rainbow, in a better place. As I'm writing this blog the song that came on is IZ's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". I had asked for a sign the other day from my son and I believe I have received it. For that I am thankful. emoticon

GingerBread People

Saturday, November 20, 2010

We have had the pleasure of having our one and only granddaughter with us this weekend. I wasn't sure all that we would do to keep her occupied this weekend, but the craft fair was one thing I had in mind. We went and did a little Christmas shopping and then went off to a couple of stores. My husband has been thinking about building a gingerbread house with her for a while so we hit the local AC Moore's for some craft ideas. The two of them picked up a couple of different things to do and one was decorating ginger bread cookies.

Here is their great creations!

It was a really nice day and now we are getting ready for a movie before bed. I am thankful for her and the fact that hanging out with grandma and grandpa is still not so bad.

Gee, I wish I had a granddaughter! If I ever get one, I'll be so old I'll be in a nursing home! Sure looks like you had fun. Wish I could've joined ya. This surgery recover is taking a lot longer than I expected! Oh ya, I forgot, I did buy some tiny gingerbread people yesterday to hang on my tiny tree this year!!! Haven't had a tree in so long I can't remember! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    AWWWW! I love it.

My son and I decorate a gingerbread house every year. Then we leave it out all year.

Gingerbread cookies are my favorite. Remember when you could go to the corner and

buy them for five cents.

I think I'll do some cookies too this year. YUM!
