Aging Fit and Strong

That is the name of the new fitness class I started taking tonight. The catalog mentioned strength and cardio so I was thinking it would have both. However tonight's class consisted of a full 60 minutes of Calisthenics. I have to admit it was not my favorite class, but it wasn't easy either. I thought the stretching at the end was some of the best stretching I've done in a long time. My back has really needed some good stretching and is very thankful. The instructor said there would be a variety of exercises each week and she would use different equipment, so I'm sure they won't all be like this one.

I wanted a change and that is what I got! Keep moving no matter what you do!

A message to my Class

Have you decided to put more effort into changing your lifestyle. We are coming up on a couple of tough months and I for one will make it through these months healthier. There is no waiting until the New Year - We made a commitment last year when we joined Spark People and I hope you are sticking with that commitment.

Are you taking advantage of the resources available like the Nutrition & Fitness Tracker? They are a great source for keeping you with your calorie range and meeting your fitness goals. There are also great articles in the Resource Center with many different topics for nutrition, fitness, motivation and wellness.

Message Boards can give a great source of motivation too. You can get to know so many wonderful people, join in challenges to help stay accountable and get support when you need it.

I personally join challenges to keep me accountable on my journey. I would love to know what would help you on yours.

    I use most of the apps on SP but I need to get more involved in challenges. That 12 Days of Christmas challenge sounds good. I'd also like to get more involved with the community boards.

    I just joined the 28 day boot camp and I am in a walking class 3 days a week with the challenge to walk or do other work outs 3 more days with one day off! I am working on getting myself back on track and entering the new year healthier and eating better! Thanks for your support and leadership.

    I love the challenges too and logging in my fitness minutes each day keeps me accountable to actually go to the gym. You and all other sparkers are a great source of my inspiration and success! emoticon

    I agree with Linda! Awesome leader! I appreciate all the encouragement I receive and all the ideas I've gotten. When I first started using SparkPeople I was mainly just reading the emails and some articles. Recently my cousin started using it too and when I started seeing her fitness minutes growing & growing I decided I was going to start logging my minutes online too so I could compete with her (never realized I was so competitive!) Once I started doing that I was hooked! I started looking at all the other things there were to offer. I especially liked the goal setting idea given to me by our awesome leader! I've already set a couple of goals & look forward to completing them by the end of this year!

    I am 3/4 to goal, my hips are bad and have recently slowed down any walking. I joined my first Challenge with a Sparkfriend and am going to try to get the pounds off with different exercises. I ST already, but am going to try core exercises with bands. It's The 12 Days of Christmas Challenge, so will be accountable til the holiday, and by then, won't want to blow it. ;) We ALL can do this! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm looking ahead - November Goals

With October nearing the end, I have really been thinking a lot about my November goals. To start I know that my before work and lunch time walks may be a little more limited so I have signed up for 2 fitness classes at the college. They are each an hour one night a week, so I know that my Monday and Thursday evenings will have that workout through November. I will also walk when I can, but with structured classes if I donít get the walk in at least I will have an hour of class those two nights. I also plan on doing my strength exercises and looking up a couple different ones from what I have been doing. It is time to change these up.

I also need to get more serious about what Iím putting in my mouth during these critical holiday times. I have a long term goal in a few months and I would like to hit it. I have been a bit stalled on the weight loss journey and I would like to at least come close to the original goal. Of course if I have to change that up I will, but I believe I could get a little better at losing some more weight.

So exercise through November is a key goal because I live in the gloomy North East. I do have my eye on some new workout equipment for Christmas so I will stay excited about exercising through the up coming worse months of winter too. It never hurts to plan ahead.

Eating healthy especially during the weeks when there are other gatherings where I may not stay in calorie range is also a key goal. I like to have a plan in place, but also allow myself some leeway.

So, have you thought about your November goals?

    I don't usually have too much of a problem with holidays. I love you for setting those goals. I am going to follow your lead and sit down and plan some goals for myself for next month.

Thanks for sharing and reminding me about how important goal setting is.

    Good idea ! I like your goals...do - able ones ! I have ALWAYS dreaded the onset of the cold and grey season(s) in the Northeast .... my energy levels go South ! Sparking will get us through the cold months !!!!

    Great planning ahead! Of course, we all should enjoy our turkey dinner (or whatever Thanksgiving brings us), one day won't derail our plans. But it's the days after with so much of leftover pies and sweets. Moderation is the key!
I don't live in the North East, but I too find it so hard to exercise when it's getting colder and gloomier.

    It is definitely good to plan ahead! October is just zooming by too... some of my goals mirror yours - to just stay active and keep running through the cold winter months, and to avoid holiday food/party binges by eating what I would like in moderation. I'd also like to lose a pound or two!

    Marvelous goals for November! I am trying to decide whether to have turkey for Thanksgiving or fulfill my real desire - a big pizza! (This year to a "off year" for the holidays - family is off elsewhere. But I enjoy the "off years" almost as much as I enjoy the family years! Next year will be full of family - I take my peace when I can find it.)

Chicken and Apple Sausage

I have blogged a few times regarding my husbands and mine sausage making. Our brother in law had bought a partial pig and had all these packages of sausage that he did not like. He asked us to come over and doctor it up so that he didnít have to throw it away. We added some additional lean pork to it because of the fat content and then started adding different spices. I think the end result was pretty good. We had dinner with them and grilled a coil of it. They went back for seconds so I think they are happy too. I think it is funny that people come to us for sausage help.

Oh yeah, my title is about a different sausage that we had made weeks ago. My husband pulled a package out yesterday so he could have the Chicken Apple Sausage for breakfast. This one is more of a breakfast or stuffing type sausage. I just had some and it made me want to tell you how wonderful it tasted. The best thing about making our own sausage is that we can make it leaner than store bought. Some people like it fatter, but what we make is so much better for us.
