Old Clothes

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Today I wore a pair of pants that just drove me nuts. I have to wear a belt with them and it crumples the pants because they are so big on me. emoticon I made up my mind to look through some old clothes and hopefully find some old pants that fit. Thankfully I found a couple in my current size range and also have some set aside in the next size down. I can not wait till I get there. I am not sure why I don't have much in between but I think I can make do. I hate buying much in my current size range when I'm only half way to goal. I even found some jeans I can wear now and I haven't had a pair fit my since I can't remember. That will be a good feeling to have some Friday and weekend wear when it gets cooler this fall!

A few pair of fat pants are in a bag to go away forever!

I am so proud of you! You are doing amazing! Bye Bye Fat Pants! Check out the goodwill or any thrift store for cheap clothes in the size you are in now and when they dont fit any more you can donate them again. Keep up the good work! emoticon

I can sooo relate to this ! I have some jean capris that kept falling down until I tied the belt loops together with string. I have refused to buy a new bathing suit, because I figure I only have a few more weeks outside anyway. And while I was trying to get my drier out of the basement I made time to fill 2 large garbage bags with too big clothes to send to Goodwill. BTW, some furniture was moved into the basement near the drier that made dis assembly necessary. My kids are moving the giant laundry table out of the way so once I get the mold cleaned out, a new drier will fit !

A quilty pleasure

Monday, August 16, 2010

I had to finish the 1072 page book that I have been reading for the last couple of weeks. I hate when I get towards the end of a book I can't seem to put it down. The worse part was that even though I have a nice slim Kindle to read my books on, this book was a real hard cover and very heavy book. Reading while riding my recumbent bike was difficult with this book, so I didn't get my exercise in today.

There will be no excuses tomrrow and my next book will be recumbent bike friendly.

Now that you have your kitten, you will have to download "Dewey the Library Cat" onto your Kindle. It was an excellent read about an abandoned cat that took over a town.

I'm so happy that you enjoyed reading your book so much.

Our newest addition (pictures included)

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Yesterday's blog mentioned my heart leading my head. My husband is the same way. We can pretend we don't want or need another animal and yet we open our hearts and home when the going gets tough.

So here is a picture of the rescued kitten:

The vet appointment went well, we did all the tests needed to bring her into a home with another cat. She got flea and worm medicine to be safe since she was in a dirty abandoned building. I bought her a nice soft bed hoping she would love the comfort, however she loves to hide in dark places for now.

Here she is in a cabinet we have in the room that she in secluded in.

We have her in a separate room from the two dogs and one cat that we have already and are introducing her slowly so as not to freak any of them out. She is getting less skittish and we will hopefully come up with the right name soon.

Suggestions are welcome!

OH MY how adorable. You and your hubby sound like us - we went to 'look at' a friends puppies in February and - you guessed it - came home with this little bundle of soft, furry love. His name is Teddy and we just adore him and his big Sissy loves him too. Not too sure the cats will ever take to him - they have been ruling the roost for too long. Congrats on the new baby! emoticon

What am I thinking?

Friday, August 13, 2010

I am a complicated person, even to myself. I often evaluate why I am a certain way. What makes me tick the way I do? Why some people view me one way and others see a different side?

Sometimes my mind works in one direction and my heart in an other. We had two dogs and two cats until the oldest cat passed last year. We made a rule that we would not get anymore animals - as they die we do not replace. Guess what?

My husbands co-workers have been trying to rescue a kitten that was trapped in a locked building on their street. Today they finally got the little guy out and are trying to find him a home. My husband and I don't really need another animal, but don't want to see it end up in a shelter.

My appointment at the vet for the kitten is this afternoon. I think I'm falling hard,

    Awwww!

It's a wonderful thing you're doing. My son volunteers at a shelter sometimes. This particular shelter is so dedicated to the animals, but I still hate to see them in there.

I understand about losing them- it hurts. My son wants a dog so bad, but the rest of the family knows how painful it is to lose them.

Sometimes I think that having had them in my life is well worth whatever is in the future because they are such a joy to have around.

I hear ya...my parents tried to pass a cat along to us earlier this year...a real snugglepuss...was tough to turn down the offer.

The Animal Care Council in Endicott is a truly humane option. They do not euthanize and the cats all look pretty content there.

Someday when you are ready for more and have room you can return the favor by adopting one from them.

I've had pets my whole life. As an adult with kids of my own, I always swear that when an animal dies I won't replace it. However, weeks or months go by and our house feels so empty without a pet to love and to care for, so I completely understand what you're thinking with this new kitty...

That being said, you did not purposely go out to find a new kitten. You and I both know that there are wonderful shelters who care for animals until they find a home. However, there are even more shelters that cannot keep all of the pets they find and must euthanize when their numbers get too high. I have a beautiful German Shepherd/Akita Mix who is the nicest dog on the planet. By the time I adopted her, she had been at the shelter for more than a week and was looking to only be there about another week before they had to put her down. No one seemed to want a gigantic dog (she was already 2 yrs. old and 90 pounds when I got her). I knew immediately she was mine, paid $40 for her, took her home where I had a 9 month old little boy still crawling around the house, and she turned out to be the best dog I've ever had.

If this kitten needs a home and you've got room in your heart, you shouldn't beat yourself up about it. Like I said, you didn't go kitten shopping - she's been rescued. That makes you a really good person, even if the house is crowded and you've set your mind to no more pets.

You'll do the right thing, whatever that is. Even if your heart is already mush and you've really decided to keep her, it's the right thing!
