Crenshaw melon - another new food

Friday, August 20, 2010

I blogged sometime back about the Santa Claus melon that my husband and I tried. it is in the Honeydew family and our local store also carries the Canary and Crenshaw melon. All of a honeydew variety. I personally and not a huge fan of honeydew, But I am always willing to give something a try.

This weeks choice was the Crenshaw - it is a cross between the Persian and Casaba melon. I've never heard of the Persian, but then again I had never heard of he others until this year. I think we have a war between two grocery store chains and they are offering more options.

My husband wasn't a huge fan of the crenshaw, he thought it was more like a cantaloupe, but I liked it and didn't really think that. I'm not a cantaloupe fan either.

For my August salad challenge I will probably be eating a fruit salad tomorrow which will include more of the Crenshaw melon. I have a company picnic for lunch and dinner and since the salad has to be a meal replacement breakfast is the only meal I have to replace. I take my challenges a little to seriously sometimes. emoticon

Your adventures-in-melon-tasting are making me feel crabby with my local grocery stores, as they do not seem to carry anything so exotic. Or maybe i'm not looking hard enough? MMMMM. .. . anyway, enjoy the picnic!

Two, two, two goals in One!

Thursday, August 19, 2010

I have been just .2 pounds under my half way weight mark (48 pounds) for a couple of weeks now. Today got me over that mark and I even made it a couple of pounds higher to the 50 pound loss mark! I am very psyched about this number.

I was not thrilled with the picture of myself taken yesterday. I may have felt better if I had a before picture to really see the difference, but I never took one. Then today all I can say is Wow, 50 pounds! That is half of a hundred – be happy with the results you have made.

Two goals in one day! That is something to celebrate!

Six Month Sparkiversary - An Update & Reflection!

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Tomorrow is my weigh in day, but of course I had to check today since it is the official anniversary day. As long as nothing happens I will be at or past my half way weight goal! That will be fantastic. I also checked my measurements, which I didn’t do at first when I joined, but I have been doing them faithfully once a month since I started taking them. The results for the four places I measure are over 20 inches lost. All in all not bad for almost 6 months!

I have made healthy eating a priority more often than not. I don’t deny myself anything knowing that portion control is important to my long term forward success. I do have some bad habits that I will have to continue to work towards improving, but I’m more confident that I can do this. Moderation is the key!

My exercise has increased tremendously in the last six months. I was riding my recumbent exercise bike this morning thinking how thankful I am that I purchased that as an incentive to get myself moving. At first I would only allow myself the pleasure of reading a novel if I rode the bike. I have also bought variable hand weights and a really nice stability ball. These were things that I added as I got more in shape. The classes I took were a big help in getting me in a regular routine of exercising too.

Along this 6 month journey I have also improved my outlook. Looking back at my weight loss progress I see where I have stalled for periods of time over the last 2 months. During those stalls I just kept plugging along, not getting too discouraged, and then I would see another positive change. Inches will move sometimes when the scale weight won’t. I know if I keep trying I will get there. If I give up I will get fatter. My choice!

I have always hated my picture being taken and I wish you could have seen my husbands face when I asked him to take it tonight. He actually asked, “What?” I told him it is my 6 month anniversary with Spark so I want a picture. Thank you to my co-leader ThatPastryGirl from our Class Team for giving me the strength to post this. I know I will be happy when I can compare it in another 6 months.

It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t Thank the Spark Community for the continued support that I receive – yes that means you my kind Blog readers! I do appreciate all the support and I hope that I have given you some.

Late Update - I tried uploading my Picture to this Blog several times, but the website did not cooperate. It had been kicking me out all day. For the most part the site works well and I understand there will be technical difficulty. I did upload the picture to my gallery earlier tonight so at least it is there!

Old Clothes

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Today I wore a pair of pants that just drove me nuts. I have to wear a belt with them and it crumples the pants because they are so big on me. emoticon I made up my mind to look through some old clothes and hopefully find some old pants that fit. Thankfully I found a couple in my current size range and also have some set aside in the next size down. I can not wait till I get there. I am not sure why I don't have much in between but I think I can make do. I hate buying much in my current size range when I'm only half way to goal. I even found some jeans I can wear now and I haven't had a pair fit my since I can't remember. That will be a good feeling to have some Friday and weekend wear when it gets cooler this fall!

A few pair of fat pants are in a bag to go away forever!

I dont buy a lot of clothes in the size i am in. brown black sometimes khaki or navy. I rotate tops as I can find them cheaper. I am short so to find nice petites are hard.

I can sooo relate to this ! I have some jean capris that kept falling down until I tied the belt loops together with string. I have refused to buy a new bathing suit, because I figure I only have a few more weeks outside anyway. And while I was trying to get my drier out of the basement I made time to fill 2 large garbage bags with too big clothes to send to Goodwill. BTW, some furniture was moved into the basement near the drier that made dis assembly necessary. My kids are moving the giant laundry table out of the way so once I get the mold cleaned out, a new drier will fit !

A quilty pleasure

Monday, August 16, 2010

I had to finish the 1072 page book that I have been reading for the last couple of weeks. I hate when I get towards the end of a book I can't seem to put it down. The worse part was that even though I have a nice slim Kindle to read my books on, this book was a real hard cover and very heavy book. Reading while riding my recumbent bike was difficult with this book, so I didn't get my exercise in today.

There will be no excuses tomrrow and my next book will be recumbent bike friendly.

Now that you have your kitten, you will have to download "Dewey the Library Cat" onto your Kindle. It was an excellent read about an abandoned cat that took over a town.

I love reading and half way through and towards the end, I can hardly put my book down. I really enjoy reading more than I enjoy being on the computer. However, it seems that I am on here more than anything else and rarely get to read. Go figure.

I'm so happy that you enjoyed reading your book so much.
