I'm in love with Kayaking

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Well I finally got out kayaking again and it was so nice and relaxing. My granddaughter had called earlier and wanted to spend the night so we picked her up this afternoon and went to a local park. My hubby and her went out in a double kayak and I took a single. It was the first time for them and we were crossing the lake and my husband said "we need to get ourselves a couple of these". That is how I felt the first time I went - I wanted to go out and buy one.

So we are having dinner and I was saying I might want a pair of earrings for a goal gift and he said what about a kayak! You don't have to tell me twice to buy one! We went and looked at them at our local sports store and there was a child size one that my granddaughter wanted. She thought we should go every Thursday night. I'm not sure where she came up with Thursday, but I thought that was cute.

I hope you all had some fun today too!

No idea why I have all this space and I can't seem to delete it!

Yikes! Wasn't quite sure what a kayak was (daft Brit) so I googled it. A canoe!! I can't swim (its always been on my 'to do' list) so wouldn't even consider it!
Good luck to you though - looks like great upper body exercise! emoticon

All that white space reminds me of my white Americana. I hope to get it in the water tomorrow. I did find my life jacket. I used to take GD in my single with me, but she is 12 now. We won't both fit. Let us know which kayak you got.

I have been requesting boating and kayaking icons forever.

My hubs and I are going to go see A-team at our local cheap theater for our date night. I also made a lasagna for dinner with some home made spaghetti sauce. Probably crack open a bottle of wine. Should be fun. And then when we get home we're going to watch one of my favorite TV shows, Eurika.

Hope you have a good time with your hubs too!

I'm not loving the fitness loss

Thursday, July 29, 2010

I've had to stop walking at lunch and also had to change my Kickboxing class to a pilates class. I'm very thankful that the instructor let's us do this. The pilates class has it's benefits but when I just calculated my weekly cardio and strength totals for a challenge I'm a part of I was very shocked at how little cardio I actually got in compared to what I have been doing.

The good news in all of this is that my heel is hurting a little less, so hopefully I won't have to be less active for much longer. I have to really consider taking my bike to work or riding it in so that I get more exercise during the day. I have tried to find alternative means of exercise, but cardio without my feet is not an easy one for me.

:( Sorry you have an injury. I guess I missed that somehow. It really does put a damper on things, especially once you become in the mindset of actually wanting to workout.
Hope your heel heals soon. Couldn't resist :P

That's a good idea to ride your bike. emoticon

I know what you mean, now that I've had the surgery I'm worried about not getting in any cardio. 6 weeks is a long time to not exercise. I hate to lose all that hard work. I've started doing some arm exercises that don't require me to do much movement. If you find something sensible let me know.

Cardio with out feet does seem to be a little difficult. I am sure you will find a way...as the saying goes...if there is a will, there is a way. Keep up your constant great work and you heel will be up to par in no time~

Biking doesn't work...? Have to get back to that KAYAK! :-)

Some folks in your position have found the Magnetrainer useful. You can pedal with your hands & arms:

ons-20

You put it on your tabletop.

I can empathize with you on this,I have a heart condition that hampers my abilities to do more,to get more Cardio in. We just have to work with our abilities and what we are able to do and try to not get us down about it.Finding alternatives can be challenging, but possible,I have found this to be true on SparkPeople.I have found alot of things possible here on Spark, and read many success stories, the best part is we are never alone on this journey and I find that comforting! emoticonDiana emoticon emoticon emoticon

We are making a Difference

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

There are a couple of us at work that started losing weight earlier this year, we then joined a challenge together and when that ended we started our own healthy challenge at work. Wednesday's are the weigh in day and it is so nice to see people coming in to weigh and giving us positive feedback about the challenge. We only started the challenge a couple of weeks ago and it goes for 12 weeks. We already had one person say they liked the weekly weigh in and would like to see it continue after this one ends.

I feel good about making a difference and I know my co-worker feels the same. We are spreading a Spark!

Eight Ball Zucchini

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

A friend of mine from work brought in eight ball zucchiniís that she had grown and offered me one. I had never seen one before, and she said she stuffs them so I thought what the heck Iím up for something new. She told me what she stuffs them with and another coworker saw it on my desk and gave me some other ideas.

In the end I made some stuffed peppers and made a similar inside for the zucchini, using ground turkey and brown rice and cooked them all together. I have to say it was a very tasty meal. The zucchini didnít repeat on me the way the peppers do.

This is not mine, but for those who haven't seen one:
