Team Challenge Blog

Monday, March 01, 2010

Our daily challenge for the "40 somethings with 50-99 pounds to lose" goal is to write a blog with a few small goals I would like to accomplish this month, and to list 5 things that motivate me to reach these goals. So here goes.

This month I will be tracking my nutrition and fitness on the spark website everyday, eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables everyday, which will have me checking into the site everyday too. I also want to weigh less than my husband by the end of the month.

One of the things that motivates me is I try to keep within the range of calories that SparkPeople has set for me. This requires me to try and get my data entered throughout the day to make sure I've got enough left for dinner. emoticon

I have been wanting to get back into a regular fitness routine and by tracking it I will be more likely to do it because I feel obligated. I also just bought a recumbent excercise bike and I don't like to waste money so it will get used! emoticon

My pants have been so tight lately - Motivation (didn't see a emoticon for this)

Seeing and reading about how others are doing is motivating to me, and SparkPeople has been providing that for me. This will keep me coming back for more. emoticon

And last, but not least the Spark book is motivating me. I am trying to take my time reading it so I can absorb and reflect. I like to read this type of book every now and then to help me better myself.

Recumbent Bike

Saturday, February 27, 2010

I have been kicking it around for several months that I should buy a recumbent exercise bike. I have even checked out several at different stores in the area to test the comfort and also read reviews online to help choose the right one.

One of my problems was that I didn't really have a good place in the house to put it. Then my youngest son moved out and I decided to make his room a place for my bike, some other exercise equipment. This way it isn't quite as sad that he has left home.

So yesterday during work I decided which model of bike I wanted and I went after work to buy it. My husband put it together and we both did the fitness test. I never thought he would do it, but I'm happy to say he did. I am hoping that he will use it once in a while too.

I have also set a goal to read while I'm working out. I am an avid reader and feel guilty if I sit around and read so now at least I will be doing something constructive while I read.

Mine is sitting on my porch because the grandsons loved it to death. I did like using it to watch tv. Now the dogs exercise me.

LOVE recumbent bikes...there is something so laid back about sitting back yet at the same time peddling one's brains out...lol! I don't own one, but have fun using one if there's one at a hotel where we might be staying. I'm always surprised when I start sweating...it's like HEY, I'm just sitting back taking it easy...what's to SWEAT about...? :-)

I have a workout room as well...it's a GREAT idea...you can situate everything up precisely to your liking to make it as simple and easy as possible to slip right into your workout routine.

Way to SPARK!

Kudos to helpful DH as well! :-)

I have an upright stationary bike and I feel guilty if I am just watching TV or a movie. When I ride the bike, I can catch up on my shows and fast forward thru the commercials.
Hope you enjoy the bike! emoticon

Dance for Weight Loss Part 2

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Last nights class "Dance your way to Weight Loss" was very enjoyable. I would highly recommend taking any kind of aerobic or dance class if you have the desire. I needed to get back in the swing of exercising and I saw this class offered at our local college. I have always liked to watch dance, but never been good at it and after last nights class it is confirmed that I have two left feet, but it was still fun. I envy the instructor with all her abilities and grace.

Each week a different class is taught. Last night we had the pleasure of Salsa with a Zumba twist. By the end of the class my heart was pounding so hard I thought my chest would explode. I was also sweating up a storm. There is no doubt that I burned some calories. I look forward to seeing what we learn next week. I may even put on some music and practice my moves!

Way to SPARK! :-)

I'm going to try that at my gym too! They have Water Aerobics and really like that! The other day I bought this DVD called Walk the Belly Flat and I think it's a fun one. Can't believe that this morning I woke up and said to myself I get to exercise today! Wow that's a first!!!! I'm going to start slow and gradually add more and when I get tired I will stop.

Good work and if you have any pointers, let me know!!!!

That class sounds like a lot of fun. I have joined the Y, but have yet to go to an aerobics or water aerobics class. I usually go with my 13 year old son, and he is not into these classes, so we usually do the treadmill, elliptical, etc. One day I do want to try a few classes though. Keep up the good work.

Dance Your Way To Weight Loss

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Toight I begin my class titled above. I am hoping I can keep up with the younger people, or at least have a few my age in the class. I think this will be a great start to get me back in the swing of excercising.

I have had some back spasms that have created a lot of pain for me, but I have been seeing a physical therapist and today I have felt better than in recent weeks. I think excercising will contribute to a positive improvment overall.

Wish me luck! emoticon

That sounds like great fun! I love to dance and do it in my living room often. My dog tries to bite me and my pre-teen daughter sits on the couch rolling her eyes and muttering about how embarrassing I am. I live in a small town that doesn't offer any such classes, but if it did, I would take my groove thing public. That would teach my daughter!

That sounds like so much fun. My 80 year old dad and I joined a line dancing class 20 years ago. We stayed in the back and did what we could. It was fun. Just enjoy yourself and move carefully.

That's awesome! Dancing is the greatest way to burn calories. It is so much fun! I recently started going to Zumba. If you haven't heard of it, it's a dance aerobics class with Latin music and dance moves. It is so awesome! We have women of all ages and shapes in class, it's even starting to attract some men.

Good luck in your class and enjoy! emoticon

Having fun while you get in your exercise is a wonderful plan! Don't worry about the age thing - you are all in the class for the same reason. Try looking for someone who is more nervous than you and help them feel less anxious - it helps to focus on the needs of others when we are feeling a bit overwhelmed ourselves. emoticon

Sounds like a great idea, just don't over do it the first time or you'll pay for it later this week. emoticon
