Today's workout

Thursday, May 16, 2013

I just wanted to record my stats so I know where I'm starting at.

Yesterday I bought a Polar Heart Rate Monitor and I love looking at the calories I'm burning. So here it goes today's workout:

Slim in 6 DVD 45 minutes: 312 calories

Elliptical Trainer 15 minutes: 150 calories

Total Duration 1:11
460 calories
In zone 32:10
Average heart rate: 123
Maximum heart rate: 160

Wow, I've definitely got my work ahead of me to lose this weight but I'm determined to do it.

P.S. Zumba Fitness Music on Pandora definitely got me moving today. emoticon

Moving is stressful=weight gain

Friday, May 03, 2013

Good Morning Sparks,

So March 16 I moved off of the island of Oahu to Southern Maryland. WOW, talk about a huge change in my life. It took about 5 weeks to complete the move into my new house and receive our stuff. In that 5 weeks after I left the island I went out to eat at all the restaurants that we didn't have in Hawaii. I was also sitting in the house a ton because of the cold weather. It snowed the week we got to Virginia.

So I decided once all the boxes were unpacked to make a change to get the weight off.

I live literally out in the country now about a 30 minute drive from any type of place of business. It's very quiet and we have a ton of privacy (which is nice). So I decided instead of commuting to a local gym I would purchase an elliptical.

I did my research and read lots of reviews and watched lots of videos and decided on one I thought would work for me. So yesterday it came in the mail and now I have NO EXCUSES. I also whipped out all my old workout DVD's to do some of those in addition to my elliptical.

When I left the island I weighed 150lbs and when I moved into my house here in Maryland I weighed 160lbs. In five weeks I officially gained 10lbs (cringe). I was getting really depressed about it but today I turned that around.

I just completed 40 minutes on the elliptical and I'm not going to lie it was pretty brutal. I guess because my elliptical is brand new it needs to be loosened up or broken in. It was really hard, much harder than the ellipticals I've used at the gym. But the important thing is I did it. I completed it.

I'm also going back to tracking my food which I think will be a huge step in the right direction.

So I'm putting it all out there and being 100% honest with myself. I can and will lose the weight I just need to focus and keep at it.

I hope you all have a wonderful Friday!

Thanks for reading,

Rachael

Moving is stressful, that's for sure... and at least some of that last 10 lbs is very likely water weight. Hang in there. You know how to do this!! Keep up the consistent exercise and you got it!
Sounds beautiful where you are.

Make sure you have the elliptical at the correct level...it might be set very high, and everyone needs to work up to each level.

I agree with you...moving is stressful and I tend to eat more under stress. We have moved a lot over the past 30 years. We are a military family. Just retired after 30 years so I hope we will not be moving again for a very long time.
It is not easy having to eat out a lot during the move and even when you get in the new house you are so busy unpacking that you tend to eat on the run which is not always a good thing. I am glad that you are getting settled in and now you can hopefully concentrate on you.

Running Buddy

Saturday, June 18, 2011

So, you see that picture from the race I did in January 2011? That is me with my running buddy Jessica. We trained together leading up to the race and kept each other going. We run at very different paces but we made each other show up. I run at about a 10 minute mile and she runs at like a 7 minute mile. She actually placed too in this race for her age group.

Ok, so it was great having a friend to help motivate me to run daily. However, Jessica got pregnant with baby 2 and can no longer run. So we walk together everyday. We walk about 3.75 miles just about everyday. Do you know where I'm going with this?

So...as much as I love walking I feel like I need to start running again. I want to keep losing weight and I'm stuck again at about 145. Now I can run alone in the mornings or something and still walk with her in the evenings but it's hard to motivate myself to go alone. She feels really bad about not being able to run and some nights she tries her best to run even though she isn't supposed to but can't run very long at all. I also feel bad if I run ahead while she walks behind.

I guess I need to just bite the bullet and run alone in the mornings if I really want to do it. It's tough though, not going to lie.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this?? Anyone else go through this? What did you do? emoticon

Thanks Jess for the tips, I need to just run alone. It's kind of easier that way because I run at such a slow pace. I also feel better because then I don't feel so slow trying to catch up with my friend all the time and feeling bad when she has to wait for me. I'm thinking of running another 5k in the Fall for breast cancer so I need to start getting out there again.

Tricky situation... I think that the morning is prob a smart choice cuz you don't have all day to talk yourself out of it. What about a short run? I do the thing where I tell myself, "okay, just 25 mins" and a lot of times it's easier to do more than I planned once I get going. So maybe a quick run in the morning and then a leisurely walk with your friend? Sounds like you are motivated, so I know you can do it!!

Thanks Jen, my husband is on the night shift at work too a lot of the time so it's hard to try and run with him. I'll figure out something with a new routine. emoticon Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

I am going through this right now. I am trying to get into running. Everyone I know lives a bit further away and no one can join me. My husband works second shift and doesn't get home until late so he is not up early enough for a run, and it is getting too warm for it later in the day. I get so tired of walking everywhere. I know I can burn more calories if I could just run, even if it was alone. I completely sympathize with you. What I am going to try to do is get an MP3 player download some very peppy music and go with the dog for a run (more like drag my dog for a run) and if she won't go, I will push my kids in the stroller and listen to them laugh as far as I can run with them. I hope that it works.
