Just thinking..........

Saturday, January 17, 2009

I had my monthly weigh in at my Doctor's office this morning. As of today I have lost 72 pounds since I started on my trek to loose weight in September ('08).

So my son had run out of the weights that he had used to demonstrate to me the weight I had lost, last month he had used my wife's 50 pound anvile and added ten pounds to it for the demo.

I was walking through our yard this afternoon I saw the anvil and it made me think. Last month another Spark team member had posted a list of weight equivilants, looking around our yard I started to compare my loss with things around our property and then it hit me.

Living in Southern Arizona we have horses (4) as I was looking at the bales of hay and the bags of pellets it made me realize that I have lost 3/4's of a bale of hay or a bag of horse pellets, that is a lot of weight that my back and knees no longer have to support, oh yea and when I was carring the extra 72 pounds I would NOT have been walking around the yard.

Now I might be a little slow but it is becoming more clear to me that not only has carring a lot of extra weight put me at risk for lots of different medical problems I have just missed out on things around my own home.

I think that it would be good for all of us to take a walk around our homes and sorrounding areas and make our own compairisonns and with each new thing you noticed you have been walking around and that means we are doing a form of excercise that does involve that dreded treadmill.

Remember spread the Spark..........

Add more to the stack.

Friday, November 21, 2008

This morning I met my son at my monthly Doctor's appointment to weigh in. I get to add another 12 pounds to the stack of weights that my son made last month. So that is a total of 54 pounds that I have lost since I started this trek in September. emoticon

I am thankful for a supportive family and for finding SparkPeople.com, they both have added to my being able to stick to my program and plans to loose the excess baggage that had I accumulated over the years.

The next goal that we have set is to be at 350 by New Years.

I think I can, I think I can emoticon

Weights

Sunday, October 26, 2008

As I explained on my SparkPage, I am working with my Doctor to loose weight. I see home once a month. I only weigh myself at these appointments. Both my son and wife attend these appointments with me (the Doctor gives them the instruction not me emoticon).

I went this past Friday to the appointment and I had lost 15lbs. since my last visit, so that is a total of 43 lbs. since I started my program two months ago.

It has been a great weekend our two oldest kids who are off in collage, our oldest daughter attends school 250 miles away but our son lives on campus locally about 25 miles away, thus leaving our 14 year old daughter home alone to deal with both my wife and I emoticon . All of our kids were home this weekend and we had a close friends and thier kids over. As I was grilling chicken for everyone my son went out to the barn to work on something.

He came in the house with weights he had lashed together and asked my wife to lift them, he explained that the weights weiged the same amount as I had lost so far (43lbs.). He brought it out to me told me that when I have doubts that I should life this and it will show my progress. He plans to add the same weight I loose to the stack after each visit. As I lifted the weights he commented that this explains why I have back pain and knee pains. It was a lot of wight to lift.

I am very lucky that my kids are very active in my weight loss, my son is always thinking of ways to keep me motivated. When I was about three weeks into my first month I could not see any chages, but my family could. He explianed that for me it was like watching a tree grow, when you look at your tree several times a day you do not see the changes, but when someone else looks at it they can see the changes. What a way to think about things. I am very lucky as a parent and husband that my kids and my wife care enough to participate in this process with me.

That's all for now............ emoticon

This was a great blog, thank you for sharing! It sounds like you have a great support system around you and a wonderful family. I love the analogy about the tree. Some days I look in the mirror and don't really see the changes, but others around me have. Congrats on your success!
