Promise yourself:

Monday, May 17, 2010

A former co-worker had this posted at her desk and one day, I wrote it down. Just found it the other day and thought it was something that I have been working on since I first read it.

Promise yourself:

--To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind

--To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet

--To make all your friends feel like there is something in them

--To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true

--To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best

--To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own

--To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future

--To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile

--To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others

--To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble

Have a great week!

I like it!! And have copied it to post at my work place.

People at work are always asking me things like....Why are you so happy (or chipper or smiling or whatever) today? I always tell them that yesterday I decided that today would be a great day!!!

And right now I have decided that tomorrow will be a great day!

I might have to work extra hard, I might get laid off, I might get sick, I might trip and skin my knee....who knows what tomorrow will bring? Not me. But I have decided that it will be a great day anyway!! :-)

Thanks for sharing with all of us. Best wishes always....Bill

I am going to print this and put it beside the bathroom mirror, so I can read it while brushing my teeth in the morning. I want to start the day with those thoughts.

I agree with the PP. But what I can focus on is that I adhere to them as much as I can. I may not be able to control the actions of others, but I can control mine and how I respond to others. Thank you for the post!

Hips Don't Lie

Friday, May 14, 2010

I am wearing my smallest pair of jeans today, without tucking, pinching, pulling or breath-holding necessary! WOO-HOO! I decided to keep this pair when I got rid of two other pairs of jeans I had bought in a fit of insanity a couple years ago. Good thing.

Surely, there are many factors in play here, but it can be chalked up to kicking back slightly and keeping away from the dairy products. This week I did weigh myself each morning and I am fighting weight once more. Yay for periodization!

Next Tuesday I am going to do my first group ride, with the Yay Bikes people. Not really sure about how long the ride is, where it goes, or anything other than the group meets at Goodale Park at 6pm each Tuesday. Being on the bike will feel good, regardless – if it is warm enough (i.e. over 70 degrees).

Managed to jack up my hips somehow – they hurt something fierce. I noticed it in my right hip after the half, but chalked it up to exertion. Now, though – owwie – it has moved into both hips and settled where I would imagine the lower “wings” of the hipbones flare out. Possibly piriformis syndrome or I need new shoes. It goes away after I have warmed up but I get stiff once I stop. Ow.

Got my new Road ID this week after losing the one I got for Christmas. Everyone should have one of these – I am still thinking of the person lying out on Olentangy River Road, eyes closed, bib flipped up – because you never know when you might not be able to communicate. Your life is worth $25! End of PSA.

The summer is stretching out before me and I have made a list of things I want to do this year:

--Paintball
--Group rides & runs
--Quidditch League practice (yes, there are formal teams that play a modified version of the Harry Potter game and yes, there are championships)
--Do some outdoor yoga
--Hit the trails: Kokosing Gap, Hocking Hills and Tar Hollow
--Swimming, lots and LOTS of swimming
--I have not broken my tailbone for almost 20 years so I am about due to try skateboarding or in-line skating again
--All the nice festivals & other free events around the city

Getting excited already for strawberry picking, berry season and planting a larger garden area. I think I will do a lot more tomatoes and no jalapenos this year – possibly a row of basil and a cucumber or two.

What is on your summer to-do list?

I have my Road ID form right here beside me from Just a Short Run. I never ordered it because I didn't really feel like a real runner. (It made sense to me.)

But I guess since I am running again after my surgery that maybe it's time to order!

This summer I want to...
bike ride lots more
hiking on some trails
start water aerobics again
more yoga
either wake up early to run or run later in the evening (the heat kills me with the MS)
visit my son in SC
and hopefully get to Mackinac Island, MI

You have a fantastic summer!!!!!

Sounds like we've all got plenty of plans for busy summers.
I plan to keep some base mile running while incorporating riding my bike as much as possible. I'm hoping that I'll be getting some swimming in as well since I plan for a tri this fall.

How far are you riding? There are several of us that are going to be riding the Hot Tamale in Waldo; it's in a couple weeks. We'll be riding most Saturday's around C-bus somewhere.

As for paintball; we've got to get a group together and include Sara.

You also forgot zip-lining.

You are right about the Road ID. I don't have one, but i put all the info into a shoe pocket thingy. Ever since I had a stroke several years ago, I have been leery of going out alone without ID information. Also, I have piriformis stretches I do, recommended by my physical therapist, which I think are helpful. Good luck.

Let me know if you want to ride together. I'm training for Pelotonia and need to get a lot of miles under my booty. Rode Kokosing trail last year and it was very pretty. Send me a note if you want company. emoticon

Loving the amount of activity you have this summer. I am friends with a couple Army wives here and I hope that I can encourage them to do some stuff too. Walking, Kayaking, etc. It will help keep me in the right direction.
