Always Say I Love You

Wednesday, September 05, 2012

Yesterday's mail brought me, yet again, a reminder that you should never delay letting someone know you care about them.
I mailed a birthday card to a dear woman I met a few years ago when hubby and I were delivering for Meals On Wheels in Juneau, AK. She would have been 95 on August 28. I did not see her or her daughter when I was in Juneau last month because I got too busy.
Margaret died on August 12. I was in Juneau and could have seen her and given support to her daughter Helen if I had just made the time. Last year I took the time (30 - 45 minutes) to stop by and it was wonderful chatting and catching up with them. I know they enjoyed the visit as much as I did.
I won't beat myself up over it, but I will always know that I did not give all I could have for them. They are wonderful folk and I will miss Margaret's sweet face next year when I visit her daughter on my trip to Juneau.
There is one photo in my scrapbook of me with Margaret and Helen. I will always remember Margaret as I see her there. She was full of P&V, even at 93. You can see the twinkle in her eye! She will be there in heaven when I go and I know she will be as welcoming then as she always was here on earth.
I love you Margaret. Hugs *S*

It's always sad to lose a friend but we can't beat ourselves up because we missed an opportunity. We've all been there. Just continue to remember the relationship you had and look forward to seeing the daughter next year.

Love that expression "P & V"...my Mom says that all the time. I am sure Margaret enjoyed the fact that you sent her a card anyway. emoticon
You live in a wonderful spot in MO. I use to live in Joplin and went to Branson and Silver dollar city as a Tween. I married a SC boy and doubt I'll ever live outside of the SC state line again.

Wonderful Vacation

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

We have really enjoyed our trip to Alaska again this year. It has been wonderful seeing the kids and grandkids. It amazed me at just how many people we had still living here that wanted to see us on this trip. I sent an email when we first left Branson giving our schedule and invited folks to call or email for a time we could visit with them. Ended up having breakfast, lunch and supper eaten out with friends 9 out of 10 meals over the past 2 weeks! Caught up with lots of ex co-workers, square dancers and neighbors.
Didn't buy any souveniers but I am taking home 12 new pair of garden gloves that I got a great deal on at Costco, plus a new set of placemats made from recycled plastic bags.
Yesterday I attended my step-daughters new belly dance class. I haven't danced since leaving Juneau in 2010 so it was a good review for me. But today I have to admit I am a little sore! I even tried "Just Dance" with my 11 year old granddaughter on Sunday so maybe that is part of the soreness too. But I know it was fun and I enjoyed every minute of it so its all good.
Anyway, it has been great but we are ready to head home again. Time to get back to our regular routine and be in our own home. *S*

I am so glad you had a good trip. It is always good to see your friends again. Belly dancing - I took a few lesson in the 70s but my body just didn't want to move the correct way. LOL

Back at it

Monday, July 30, 2012

I have not been on Spark for about a year but I am going to give it another try to see if I can help myself stay on track.
Since January 2012 I have lost 32 pounds by going with Professional Weight Management in Branson, MO. I pay to have someone else tell me all the things I already know about losing weight and finding my best health. BUT, it has got me going again and I am doing well with it so I will continue. The best part of this is that I have also lost 36 inches! Whoo. Wonder how I even got around with all that extra me!?
Anyway, I am feeling wonderful, my cholesterol is under control without medication, my blood pressure is fantastic, 102 over 68 today! without medication and I actually enjoy being out and about again.
Had a great garden going this year that has kept us in fresh vegetables for our own table and a few to share with neighbors and friends. Unfortunately, the heat is beginning to take it's toll and the plants are just not holding up even with twice daily watering. But we enjoyed what we have had and plant to do it again next year.
Getting ready to head up to Alaska again next week to visit the kids/grandkids up there. At least we will be cooling off then. Our temperatures will go from 110's down to 55's and it will be damp all the time. :~)
More later *S*

Survived our first winter storm in Branson

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

Well, it wasn't much snow compared to what we had in Alaska the past few years, but it was impressive for "down south"! We got about 6 inches of snow on top of about 6 hours of freezing rain. Makes for really treacherous roads so we stayed in the condo all day. Good thing we had full charges on our cell phones, Kindles, and toothbrushes. We were ready for a couple of days if necessary with groceries, water and logs for the fireplace.
But, today the sun came out and thawed the roads a bit so we got to take a quick trip over to the house to make sure everything was okay over there. It is of course. Picked up the mail and a bit of birdseed to bring back for the hungry birds at the condo. We have had some birds with voracious appetites the last 2 days. And such a variety too. I've really been enjoying watching them. We had a Pileated Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Red Breasted Woodpecker, Yellow Bellied Sapsucker, Blue Jay, Carolina Wren, Junco, Cardinal, Titmouse and Purple Finch all today!
Right now I need to close this out and head on up to the clubhouse for our weekly night of playing Hand & Foot, a card game we learned here at Pointe Royale. Hope everyone else has weathered this storm as well as we have. *S*

Golly that sounds worse than what we got here in Michigan. I don't care for freezing rain in any way, shape, or form. I had to chuckle a bit as I thought, these people moved away from Alaska only to get this storm. Go figure! Glad you are well and enjoying your life of retirement. Are you still sewing?

Ginger is a wonderful daughter

Monday, January 17, 2011

I know mother's are not supposed to show favoritism from one child to another, but I have to write about my daughter Ginger today. She is one of the most generous women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Yesterday she sent me a website link. Here it is to share with all of you as well.

This website (that she received from a friend 4 days ago) is for the Special Olympics. They are asking folks to knit or crochet scarves to give to each participant in the Special Olympics this year. Patterns are included as well as color suggestions. They would like to have 350 scarves submitted. My daughter has already completed 2 scarves and she works full time and has 3 children, 9, 5 and 7 months.
It amazes me that she still finds time to do this sort of thing while having such a busy life with her own family. I don't think I did that while I was raising my 3 kids and I was a stay at home mom!
Anyway, I wanted to share the website so that if any of you have the time and inclination, you might check it out and maybe submit a scarf or two for a good cause too.
The state of Missouri (where I live now) is not a participant so I will submit my scarves to Alaska (where I just moved from and my daughter still lives) and help make a difference for those folks. *S*

I noticed what you were doing in the HUDDLE and wanted to drop by and say how wonderful I thought that was. I don't crochet or knit...though tons of folks have tried to teach me. BUT...I do know many who do...and will pass this very worthy site to them. Our daughter actually got us to volunteer for Special Olympics. What a rewarding experience. So I know that feeling of admiration for a beautiful daughter as well. Continued blessings your way. mary
