So this week I've been working out every day. I barely ever work out, but I decided I need to gain strength for my job, to make it less tiring. So I've been going to the gym, doing kettlebell swings, push-ups, planks, and vipers. And squats on an upside down Bosu ball. And in only 5 days, I can feel the difference already. My arms, legs and tummy feel firmer and their shape is more defined. I feel more energy. I feel great. I'm having a rest over the weekend and will start working out again on Monday.

Weight loss

Monday, June 25, 2012

It's been a while. I've lost weight. I think I might have now reached my target weight, except I can't remember what my target weight was. But I've lost a significant amount of weight - and ironically, it happened when I wasn't trying. Three weeks ago I decided, quite simply, to start eating less. Not to lose weight - weight loss (although, thinking about it, the logical result of eating less) didn't even occur to me. I'd actually been reading about how eating significantly less increases the lifespan significantly. And I was also thinking about the fact that if I fast, I am much more alert, and was wondering if the same would happen if I started eating a lot less than normal. I thought it through, and wondered whether the 'significantly less' really was undereating, or if we eat so much in today's society that we consider overeating as normal eating. Anyway, I worked out a healthy, nutritious diet of three meals a day, which involved eating significantly less than I usually eat. And I found I did feel more alert and focused. And then, quite randomly, realised this week that I've lost weight. I'm also a lot more toned, because my job involves quite a bit of physical exertion. It makes me tired, but it is toning me up. Hadn't gone to the gym or done kettlebell swings in ages, but tried the other day, and found the 8kg kettlebell, that was a challenge before, was now easy, and I could attempt the 12kg.

30 grams protein for breakfast

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

So I've been trying the '30g protein within 30 mins of waking up' thing, from 'The 4-hour body'. Except I generally wait longer than 30 mins. But still. After 30g protein for breakfast, I am then not hungry for the rest of the day. No cravings for junk food at all. So weird. I kind of miss craving for junk food - Doritos and Haribo were so exciting back in the day!

Hey. I am doing that too. But my book said within 1 hour of getting up. And it does stop some of those cravings. I can tell a difference if I skip my morning protein.

Curious if part of your 30 grams is coming from Greek Yogurt? I have this container of Fage 2% Greek strained yogurt (yummy!) and for 1 cup serving, it's 23 g of protein!! Just for the one serving of yogurt! So it wouldn't take much else to pimp it up to 30 g, I"m sure - maybe nuts and some fruit??

And I know what you mean about missing junk food...not sure about Haribo since I'm not sure what it is... but chips and chocolates and ice cream go down for me!!

emoticon on the 30 gram breakfast, though! takes a while to get into that being "hungry within 30 minutes" of waking up - I think that's where some quick vigorous activity is supposed to take place but I tend to like to do my long walks before breakfast.

Gosh, my thighs are burning!

Saturday, September 17, 2011

I walked ten miles yesterday. Haven't done long-distance walking for a whole year - just been swimming recently. It actually felt good, although I can feel it in my thighs today. A sort of burning feel. But I still feel like I could merrily go for another ten mile walk today. Not sure if that would be the best thing. Maybe better to rest my walking muscles for a day and use my swimming muscles by going for a swim instead.

Need my hair cut too - it's long overdue for a cut and is constantly tangling. I hate haircuts though! Hence I've been putting it off. But it's got to the stage where my hair is irritating me even more than a haircut would, so I really need to go get it cut!

Random questions: Do you have an electric kettle? If not, how do you boil water for hot drinks? Roughly how many hot drinks do you drink per day?

Ten miles!!!! Way to go! emoticon

No electric kettle here... I usually use the microwave to heat water.

'message board hot topics'

Saturday, September 17, 2011

The trouble with the message board hot topics is that they stay the same for weeks, and they're not always the most interesting topics. But because they're in the 'hot topics' list, people will be more likely to post in them than post elsewhere. It'd be more fun to see different topics whenever I log on, because so many interesting non-hot topics quickly disappear.

I'm curious whether their 'hot topic' status is based on how many posts they have overall, or how many posts in the past 24 hours.
