Tried some new foods

So I saw this detox plan in Self Magazine and for 7 days you eat foods that are high in good fats and antioxidants. Each morning is a smoothie and then then they either have a recipe or recommend going to a certain restaurant and what to order. They also include a cardio and strength plan for each day. I'm not really following it, but decided to try some of the smoothies, which meant I had to buy some ingredients I've never eaten before. So I tried almond milk, almond butter and kale. I really like the almond milk and butter. The kale was chopped up so fine in a smoothie and I couldn't really taste it, but it was pretty interesting drinking a green smoothie! LOL

Well, last week I started lifting weights with the Chalean Extreme program. I decided to do this while my husband ran, since I still cannot do that. I can't do anything with any cardio right now. I can walk farther and a little faster this past week, but still need the brace. For a little bit I was wearing an ace bandage type brace at night because my foot would ache. When I walk awhile or have to stand for an extended period in one place, my ankle tends to swell. I'm a little frustrated because I can't believe this is taking so long to heal. I thought I was being a baby and I should just try to push it some, but then it swells. So I guess I'm not quite there yet. So I'm going to keep doing my weights until I feel up to doing some cardio.

    Weights are good, build up muscle! Also, could you do some upper arm punches for cardio? Like kickboxing with no kick, LOL....I do think you are right to take it easy and give it time, especially if it is still swelling.

Coming Along

I've been walking "normally" since last Thursday. Slowly, but surely my injury is healing. I find that I do tend to walk better without the brace on my foot since it kind of impedes normal walking, but I prefer to do what the doctor says ;) I am still having a little difficulty going down the stairs, so I take them one at a time. I'm going to give myself another week of recovery before I start using my foot more, but because I'm feeling rather lazy and my weight is not going anywhere, I'm going to start doing some of my DVD workouts, starting Sunday, following a similar regimen as when I was doing C25K, to get back in the rhythm. Most likely I'll try Slim in 6 to see if I can handle that and perhaps some of the Chalean Extreme workouts to get some weights in.

    Good for you and I'm glad you are healing and listening to your Doctor! I've had too many friends who did what they wanted and regretted it later.

Recovering

After 3 days on crutches, I went without today. Only had a brace on my ankle and I made it. I don't do alot of walking around at work, so that helps. I ordered a stronger brace and it's supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I'm hoping that will work for me when I later try to work out again. For now I'll just focus on continuing to get back to normal.

    It's doing alot better. I got the lace up ankle brace I ordered, yesterday, and it definitely helps. Today I put it on with my running shoes and went out on my own. First time driving in about a week. Don't worry- I didn't run! I went and got a facial and it was great. There are times where my leg and ankle will feel a little weird- like I might tweak it on accident, but I am definitely walking better. Thanks for asking!

I'm thinking to myself, This is what I get for trying to be healthy but I know I shouldn't be so negative. Was feeling great at the beginning of my run yesterday but by the second to third interval, my ankle was hurting. Not super severe. Felt like my muscles were tight. Tried interval 4 and had to stop halfway. Was so bummed. Spent the rest of the day on the couch with ice on my foot and elevated. This morning got up and I felt better but the longer I walked on it, I could tell the pain was there. Went to a clinic. They took xrays and they didn't see anything. Put an ace bandage on and gave me crutches. Going to be on those for a few days and then an ankle brace for at least a week but if I want to run again, I will most likely need the brace. So sounds like a week or two of rest as long as nothing else happens.

    Sorry to hear you are in pain! But don't consider it a fail....just a delay. Rest it as much as you can for the next couple of weeks and then try again....don't give up! When you are able to try it again, just take it easy and listen to your body!
