It's the last day...

of my 20's. I can't believe it. So it's not that it's really depressing. I realize I'm entering a new phase of life. It's just that I think about what have I really accomplished? I'm trying to sustain my marriage, and I love four furbabies that I keep healthy and happy. I've traveled to various places that I never thought I'd visit- Hawaii, Jamaica, Costa Rica. I've met new friends and lost others. I've learned life lessons through various individuals and circumstances. I've climbed a few rungs of the corporate ladder, although I sometimes feel like it takes so long to get where you really want to be. But I'm proud of what I've learned and how I've taught myself things I never thought I would. Sometimes I get down on myself because I never did anything with my college degree and I wonder what should I be doing in this life to make me truly happy. Is this the next step of my journey? To figure that out and make it happen? I hope that I can continue to learn and make something of myself. That I can continue to dream and hope and accomplish what I want to do in life!

My echo stress test was canceled for tomorrow and I'll be doing this on the 30th. I'm glad because I'm taking tomorrow off from work and didn't really feel like going to the doctor, but I guess that means taking more time off later!

I have officially entered phase 2 on Spark so now I hope to really instill some good eating habits in my life.

Doctors - blah

Sunday, May 13, 2007

So on Friday I went to see a cardiologist. My family doctor recommended I go. I already have high cholesterol - 250- and I'm on Zocor. He is not too sure about my blood pressure- feels that from looking through my chart, that I'm on the cusp of having it. Wants me to lose 10 pounds, walk 20 minutes, 3x's a day, and start a low sodium, low fat diet. The good news is that I work out 6 days a week on a good week, so I should have no problem with the exercise portion. Bad news is that I am so horrible with diets! So I went ahead and printed out my spark diet for the week and today I'll go get the things on my grocery list. For the first time in my life, my husband has decided he will eat what I eat for dinner time. I'm a little shocked by this!

This coming Friday I am supposed to go get an echo stress test on my heart. The day before I turn 30! We'll see what happens with that!

There are a couple of natural things you can try to lower your cholesterol. I have to take my husband to see his doctors all the time and had a really good conversation with his primary a few months ago. I also have moderately high cholesterol and had low HDL, which I have since brought up to a good level by taking about 2000 mg of a good fish oil daily (in capsules). The best form is from salmon. It was also confirmed that high doses of niacin works to raise the good and lower the bad. I am currently taking 250 mg, but this form is the flushing form. You might want to consider 500 - 1000 mg per day of a non flushing form. I have also read that the red yeast rice (in capsule form) is good for lowering cholesterol. Good luck with your test next week. Hopefully it won't be all that bad. Linda
