SSV Challenge - Forgive Myself

Friday, July 29, 2011

I came up with this challenge and I think it is very hard to do.
I want to forgive myself to using food to feel voids in my life. I moved a lot as a kid and didn't make friends easily. I used food as an escape. I had several scary things happen with males when I was a young teen and unconsciously I used weight to hide behind. I am sorry that happened to my younger self, but that all happened a long time ago. It is time to put these things in their place...not forgotten, but forgiven.
I know now that I am in charge.
I know now that I am smart.
I know now that I am good at my job.
I know that I raised three productive children who will make a great contribution to the society.
I know that I never dealt with what happened. I forgive my younger self for coping the best she could. Now I need to do the work to make my journey lead to my goal.

To Answer Many Who Question Why I Am Back At School Already

Monday, July 25, 2011

Today was my first day of pre-planning. This week I get my room and lessons ready, meet my students, and get my head prepared. Students start August 1st. My county has what is called a balanced schedule. This is our balanced schedule:
Students start the first Monday in August.
We then have a week off in September, Thanksgiving, in February, in April. Two weeks for Christmas. Eight weeks for summer - not twelve.
It sounds strange and a lot of people question the kids retaining material with all that time off.
I think it helps. It also helps with fewer absences both of students and teachers because we all plan doctors and other appointments during the breaks. Parents take advantage of off season vacations.
Our county has had this calendar for six years now and I hope they never go back.
But that is why I am back at work and summer is over for me!

Oh, I see! When my husband was in the Navy, and we lived in San Diego, our oldest daughter started kindergarten in a year round school. We did love the schedule, but we then had to transfer to Virginia which put her the youngest in her class. It never hurt her, though, because she was amazingly gifted in academics and ended up finishing at the top three in her class of over 1,000 here in TX!

Anyway, thanks for the explanation! I think it's great! emoticon

Wow, we were offered a similar year round schedule, but it was voted down. I think it sounds great.

Most of our buildings (except maybe the very newest) in Massachusetts are not air-conditioned....of course, the heat doesn't work very well in some of the older ones either, lol - that schedule wouldn't work well for us without a significant investment in infrastructure -

Have a great learning year!

I would LOVE this schedule for Andrew :)
He's already asking when he can go back to his school and this was just his 1st year. Thankfully we had a 1 week art class at school this month & 1 week exercise class at school next month - ea was only an hour a day but it gave him something to do and he liked being back there.

So Proud, So Hot, So Tired!

Thursday, July 21, 2011

Today we were at DD2's public defense of her thesis. They call it a defense, I would call it a presentation of her work and thesis. Her family was there - me, her dad, sister, brother, husband and daughter. I missed some of her talk because her husband (who is wonderful, by the way) and I were taking turns entertaining her 15 month old daughter who luckily likes to climb up and down stairs! I did get to hear her mentor introduce her and it really made me proud to hear how highly thought of she is in her profession.
I will be honest and say I didn't understand a lot of what she said, but I do get the theory behind the data.
Her dad and I stayed with her through the whole reception. Husband took sister, brother, and baby home for nap time.
When we finally got home, we went to the Baltimore harbor and went to a buffet which serves crab - one thing my son wanted to do while here. So I had a salad, a baked potato and some shrimp since I do not like crab. Everyone else, including the baby, ate crab for a long time.
After dinner, we walked to their house, gave baby a bath, and she was out for the night. the walk helped work off a little of the dinner.
All in all today, I walked 2 miles. Might make up for the cupcake I ate at the reception?
Good day. Focused on DD2. It was her day! Tomorrow we will go to the aquarium to be inside out of this heat. Don't need 15 month old or six month pregnant DD1 out in the heat.

Glad that you are enjoying the grandbaby, sounds like she is keeping you all busy! LOL Ahhh what I wouldnt give to have that kind of energy now! LOL

You did great on the food even with the cupcake that you walked off. LOL
Take care and have FUN at the aquarium in the cool air-conditioning!

DD2 is a DOCTOR!!!!!

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

She passed her defense today! That is the best part of today.
Today I went to my doctor's office for my physical...and was told that I didn't have an appointment. Now normally that wouldn't bother me but I needed some refills for meds that I needed to take on my trip. My wonder doctor's office worked me in with the CNP right then. She did the physical, ordered lab work, and got my refills written. Then off to Wal-Mart to get them filled. A quick lunch and then the phone call from DD2 telling us she passed! Car packed and off we went for a long drive from Atlanta to Baltimore. We are currently in VA overnight because hubby is tired. I drove five hours, DS drove 3 hours. Hubby worked late last night at his office to make sure work was caught up before he left on this trip, but he couldn't sleep in the car because DS and I were talking too much.
Well tomorrow we will be in Baltimore and will be together to celebrate this great achievement. I hope tomorrow's drive is better than today's was.
