Day Two at New Gym - Cycle

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

I had a great time at class with DD. We were able to talk a bit as I haven't done cycle (spin) for two years and her doctor wants her to not push it too hard right now. She is pregnant and has high blood pressure so exercise is good at moderate levels. I did enjoy cycle.
Tomorrow I will meet with a trainer and get a fitness assessment. Should be interesting. I will let you know.

Yay for you! I go with my DD to the gym but we don't always do activities together. We did a spin class together & I was so proud that I was able to do the whole thing. Cycling really burns those calories! You're doing great.

First Night at the New Gym and First Water Aerobics Class

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

I was nervous when I went to the new gym. Change is hard and there was no one there that I knew. Of course, I got there way early. It is closer to my house and I left at the same time as I used to go to the old gym. So there I am, feeling a little uncomfortable in a new swim suit. I spent some time in the jacuzzi to relax my foot.
Then other women started coming into the pool area. Everyone was getting two things that look like weights but are plastic and have no weight at all and a foam noodle, so I followed suit and did the same. The water was a little cold but that changed once we started.
The instructor stayed outside the pool for most of the class. We walked across the pool, jogged across the pool, did jumping jacks, squats, leg lifts - lots of leg lifts - front, back, side, touching right hand to left foot, left hand to right foot, arm exercises with the noodle and water weights.
It felt terrific to be able to do jumping jacks without pain, jogging without pain. It felt like organized play. Now an hour later, my legs feel like noodles and I feel like I really worked out.
Tomorrow, I may try a cycle class.
I know I made the right decision to join LA Fitness and my routine for workouts is going to totally change. I hope it jump starts the loss of the last 5 to 10 pounds I want to lose, but mostly tones up my mid-section.
I will let you know what the trainer has to say on Thursday.

Wow! Wish I had a great water exercise place like that! Our local university lets the City use their pool for senior water aerobics which I attended one year with a friend, but it just really didn't do anything for me! It was fun, but I'm thinking that was all it was for me. She didn't do alot of the stuff you mentioned, MOstly just wiggling in the water! hehe Anyway, hope this really helps you as it sounds like a very good workout! (Your legs felt like noodles!)
Skinny "vibes" coming your way!!!!

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the water aerobics class. I have it in my list of things to do. I have a friend at the gym I go to that showed me some of the moves, but I would really like to try a 'real' class. Sounds like you ar egoing to like the new gym. That's really great. You'll get rid of those last pounds and look great.

A New Gym

Monday, March 28, 2011

I did it! I joined LA Fitness tonight. I went to check it out and I talked to the general manager. There is no contract, no initiation fee, and $35 a month! I am so psyched. I can't wait to go tomorrow. I bought my first swim suit in probably 20 years just so I can go to Aqua Fit tomorrow night. Don't know what I will do Wednesday...maybe cycle. Thursday I have an appointment with a trainer for my free session for him to help me get a schedule of activities going and to learn about the machines. I know now that I have been in a rut for the last year and I need to shake it up. So I am thinking the Aqua Fit Tuesdays and Thursdays, weight machines Monday and Wednesday and some new machine like maybe rowing on Saturday. Or maybe machines Monday and Wednesday, Aqua Fit Tuesdays and Saturdays, and something different on Thursdays. I think I will check with my daughter and see what classes she takes and likes. I am really excited about this change. I think it is what my body needs to get the muffin middle toned up.

Sounds like you are going to have a great time at the gym. The one thing that I miss is swimming. We have an olympic size pool about 20 minutes from here (in fact they have had olympic diving and swimming trials there) and I really should start swimming again. I have walking, hiking, and biking buddies so now I need to find a swimming buddy. I was never a speed swimmer but I taught lessons as a teen and was on a water ballet team in college.

My Walking Shoes - Part 2

Sunday, March 27, 2011

I thank everyone for their opinion about my MBT walking shoes. I wore them around the house all evening yesterday and going to bed without any pain in my foot is worth any amount of money. So I have decided to keep them and walk a lot more. Shoes need to fit right and be comfortable for everyone, but when you have arthritis in your foot, it is even more important. so having slept on it, I am keeping them. I will be going to the mall to pick up my granddaughter's gift from the engraver and my Danskos from being resoled soon and will do my 5,000 steps at the mall - without spending any money today.

New Walking Shoes - Want to Know If They Are Worth The Price

Saturday, March 26, 2011

I went to the mall today. I had several reasons.
First, I wanted to get a silver baby cup for my DGD. Her first birthday is in April and I am going up there next week. In fact, this time next week I will be there. I will pick the cup up tomorrow.
Second, I wanted to see if I could get my Danskos re-soled. I don't even remember how old they are. I think they are around 10 years but could be around 7 years. I went to a store that sells them, but I would have to send them away after researching on-line as to where and how much. But while I was there, I bought a new pair. I own four pairs now. I love Danskos and so does my podiatrist.
Now for the question about the new walking shoes. I tried out and bought MBT walking shoes. They have the curved bottom like the Sketcher's Shape ups. They were very expensive. Now here is my question...my arthritic foot does not hurt in them, which means I would be able to walk more. So I am asking if you know about the MBT shoes, are they worth the price? As long as I wear them inside, I can return them.

I see that you have already decided to keep them. Let me know how they work out for you. I need some shoes that I just wear at Curves, and would like some advice on what to get. My walking shoes are definitely worth the price...the only place I could get good support AND a wide width was at a specialty store. But Curves doesn't want dirty shoes in their facility, can't blame them, so I need a second pair that hopefully won't cost quite so much.

Several co workers swear by them and one has severe authritis in his foot from breaking all the bones. You need to break them in by wearing them a couple hours a day for a week or so before wearing them all day. Your foot changes position from its normal one and it takes a while to get used to it. They both love them!

OHSOCOOLLISA 3/26/2011 6:20PM

I agree...wear them inside for a bit to see if you like them. I have sketcher shape-ups and LOVE them. I know for me, the expensive price is worth it if they are comfortable, as it just takes so long to find a pair that are.

All the best!

GOOZLEBEAR 3/26/2011 5:22PM

Sorry I can't advise you on those, I have the Sketcher's ShapeUps and love them. I would suggest, like you said, just walking in the house with them and see how your knees react. Good luck with them.

I know you will enjoy your DGD's birthday next weekend. Have fun!

I know several people who swear by them as better than sketchers toners. I also know people who say they aggravate their knees and simply cannot wear them. I think it is an individual thing. Once you wear them a few times you should get a feel for them. Good luck, let us know how they work out. Hey, have you ever tried the sketchers toners?
