End Of Pity Party

Saturday, December 04, 2010

Yesterday I was having a pity party, blaming my work load for my eating binge. Okay, that is a bunch of &^%$ as all of you realized. I did my strength training this morning and felt a lot better for it. I am eating what I need, not just because it is there today. I will forgive myself for the binge, it happened, it is in the past, it is over. I am in control and I will make this. I can reach my goal. I will reach my goal and I will not gain weight over Christmas. I will avoid the temptations as much as I can and live well. I will be happier for it. I will be healthier for it. I won't make that New Year's resolution of losing weight. If I do, I do; if I am healthier that is the important thing.
Thanks to all who answered me yesterday. Thank you all for your support. Today is on track and going well. Have a wonderful evening my friends.

Three Weeks to Christmasand I Need Help Please

Friday, December 03, 2010

So how are those December goals going for you? I hope better than mine. I have been stress eating. I know it is stress because it is all carb based! Chips, pizza, garlic bread, yeah pretty much any carb not nailed down. I have tons of stuff to get down at school before break in two weeks and don't know how it is all going to get done. To top it off, part of the paperwork needs to be finished by other people so not everything is under my control. Now my friends, I am not complaining or whining, I am just being honest. It has been a bad week and we all have those. I could use a little support and encouragement from my friends to get back to my plan and get through Christmas. I have done my exercise but my eating is all over the place. Can you give a purple cow some help?

Here's a weird idea - how about just going on a no-carb diet for a few weeks, so it's all black and white, very structured, and you can't even consider eating those foods. Just a lot of lean protein and no carbs except vegetables and fruits.

Have you thought of purging your pantry? The last time I was eating too much of the wrong thing, I cleaned out the pantry and bought more fruits, veggies, and nuts to snack on.

I know what it feels like to be under the gun, paperwork-wise. I love computers because you can send messages like, "Sorry, I misplaced the paper that you gave me. I'm such a ditz! Would you mind sending me another copy."

emoticon You've worked hard. It may just take a few days to get back into the groove.

You have gotten through more stressful times at school (think the fist few weeks, the last few weeks). You can do this! I have been terrible with my eating as well this month so far, and it is because I am not planning, I am letting things happen to me, not me happening to them!Try to make a plan for each day. You will get through this!

Even very brief "meditation breaks" are helpful with the stress - just one or two minutes focusing on your breathing will give you a break and a chance to see if you really want the carbs - or if there is another choice you can make -

Be gentle with yourself - all you can do is what you are responsible for. Try to let the rest go.

What are you doing for "me" time these days? What gives you satisfaction?

emoticonYou are human!!! Just know that this is a little blip and that in the big picture you are amazing!!! Being a stress monkey at this time is probably unavoidable! Break things into do-able steps for yourself and remember to do something that makes you smile or laugh and BREATH!!!!!

Now put down those chips and back away slowly!!! Fill up on your favorite veggies with some salty-ish dressing to substitute for the salty crunchiness you are letting go in the chips!!! lol Yeah, I know, substituting one salt choice for another may not be the answer! But the veggies are sooooo good for you!!!

If all else fails... just think... after all this stress you get a VACATION!!!! Take care of yourself!!!

Sounds like you are working under a tremendous amount of stress. Could you possibly find about 15 minutes each day to de-stress ? It sounds a bit weird but listen to soft music, take a quiet stroll, anything to make your breathing a bit slower. You WILL eat all the wrong things when you are stressed and the holidays are not a good time for trying to relax. Please, think about yourself first, just for a bit each day.
Best of luck to you - I know it won't be easy but it's worth it.

I know what you mean. I have a big project coming up at the Bridge club, where I am club manager. We are doing a major change over, where I will have to first delete, then update the computer program we use and start over from scratch setting it up again. The previous club manager had given me a lot of information already set up on Windows Office that will also all be obsolete and I will have to set up my own excel templates, word files etc., from scratch. Also, the fact she had an earlier Office program meant there were compatibility issues anyway and wouldn't always translate perfectly to my version, so it was time for me to set my own up. I am very lucky year end is on a Friday and I will have the whole weekend to work on it to be done by Monday's re opening. But the only serious snacking I do is on Baked Cheetos crunchy and dark chocolate. I simply don't allow any other food in my place. Its hard to find something unhealthy here. When my Cheetos run out, I am slow to replace them. It would be best not to purchase this stuff and have only healthy snacks available instead like fruit and yogurt or veggies and a light dip... My problem is I am a vegetarian and my main source of food IS fresh fruits and veggies to the tune of up to 11 servings a day. So my dilemma is what is my healthy snack? They are my main meals, three a day LOL.
You should explore Spark's healthy low calorie dessert recipes to offset some of your cravings, or their pizza recipes if you can't live without one. Might help. They have revamped every type of meal on here to make them healthier..
Good luck with it!

Today I Can....with the help of a visual reminder

Sunday, November 28, 2010

I read someone's blog about Dr. Oz and his just ten challenge which includes wearing a bracelet. I went to his website and learned that a lot of his challenge mirrors what we do here in Sparksville. Nice to know that we are doing things the right way. I really respect Dr. Oz and his knowledge. Well, it turns out the bracelet is free when you sign up for his challenge. I read all his tips and decided that I didn't want to wait for a bracelet. I am involved in enough challenges right now so......I found an old bracelet that I haven't wore in ages and made it my visual reminder that I can do this. I call it my "Today I Can" bracelet.
Today I can stay within my calorie range.
Today I can complete the Quick Fire Challenge.
Today I can do my exercise.
Today I can get enough sleep.
Today I will keep my blood sugar under control.
I will wear it every day to remind myself that today I can do what I need to to lose the last 7 pounds.
And thanks to all for the pep talk yesterday. I am in control and powerful today.

I Thought I Would Be at Goal

Saturday, November 27, 2010

I have been Sparking since January 18 so am about 6 weeks away from my one year anniversary. I want to lose 20 pounds. Not much and it feels very silly to me to worry about 20 pounds when I read blogs by people who have lost 100's or want to lose 100's. Those are the people I admire and want to support.
so here I am figuring out where I stand right now.
I have 7 pounds to lose with Christmas in the middle. It might be more since I don't weigh in until Wednesday.
I have learned a lot here. I have learned that life is life and it is to be enjoyed every day. I have learned to exercise, even in small spurts helps. I have learned that support here is true support. I have learned to track what I eat and what I do for exercise. I have learned where I need to be calorie wise to lose weight.
So why is it so hard to lose these last 7 pounds? I have said before that I think I sabotage myself because I have never been able to maintain before and I am not sure I will be able to this time either. Yet, I have stayed around 150, give or take a couple of pounds for months now.
I have lost, on average, a little over a pound per month. People say when you lose slow, the weight tends to stay off because you have learned new ways to eat. This is not a pity party blog. This is a what do I need to do to lose the last 7 pounds blog.
It is an I am being silly over 7 pounds.
This is a thanks for listening blog.
Now I am off to do my Quick Fire Challenge for the day.

If you were talking to me and I suggested I was being silly over 7 lbs., you would tell me it wasn't true and that I wasn't being silly. So I'm here to tell you the same thing. You're not being silly. It's YOUR goal. If it's 7 or 77 lbs. and it's affecting you, it's important.

You've gotten plenty of good advice here regarding what you need to do to get those last 7 lbs. off. Might I also suggest that this would be a good time to do some spiritual and emotional work to figure out if you have something deeper going on within yourself that makes you think you're not going to do it this time since you've never done it before. Sounds to me like this is a great opportunity for growth. Your weight loss is no less important than someone who has lost/is trying to lose 100+ lbs.

If you are interested, I have a few book/website suggestions for you if you are interested in exploring the mental/spiritual aspects of why you haven't shed those last 7 lbs. No pressure, just resources I have found helpful personally, because for me, losing weight is 97% about the mental/spiritual journey.

Your Spark Friends are here for you, no matter what. emoticon emoticon

As you said yourself, if you've maintained this weight for several months then you basically know how to do maintenance. So push for that 7 pounds if you want them, but I think you'll be fine when you get there.

One thing that I found helpful when I was near goal and trying to lose those last few stubborn pounds was to really track my sodium intake. I was already eating tons of fruits and veggies, drinking water, and cutting most processed foods. I noticed that when my sodium was up (above 1,200 mg per day), my weight would be up for several days. I tracked it closely, and kept it below 1,000 most days, and I did get down to goal over the summer.

Sounds like you are doing great! Keep it up! You will get there!

This is what broke a plateau for me: eating less but more often, a couple shorter (but they added up to more) fitness sessions, eating mostly at the lower end of my ranges, and-believe it or not - getting a bit more sleep and water.

Have you tried any of these classic SP tactics?

I've read that many people say it's harder to lose the last pounds than the earlier ones - I don't know how true that is from a scientific viewpoint versus a psychological battle with your subconscious .. but if 7lbs is holding you back, it's holding you back.

You can do this. YOU ... CAN .... DO .... THIS. Seriously, it's in you. You've come this far, it's just a little farther before you hit maintenance. :)

    Hi PCow.

I appreciated your comment on my blog, so, I came to look at yours. Yeah; don't feel silly over 20 lbs., or, the 7 that are left. It's easier to lose those smaller amounts of weight, now, than waiting until you have 50 or 100 or more to lose.

However, don't get too complacent, either, after you lose it, because of what you hear about losing slowly and the weight staying off. I lost 25 lbs twelve years ago. It took me a year to lose them. After several years, I'd gained them all back. Then, I developed multiple sclerosis, and the steroids and other meds put on another 40 lbs. Trying now, to get back to 135 lbs. When I started this time, I had 50 lbs to lose. I've lost 13 since September. When I lose them, I plan to stay on SparkPeople, this time, and keep them off. You can do it, too! :-)

I don't think you are being silly over 7 pounds. It is your goal! You wouldn't let one of your kids give up so close to a goal. You would keep pushing them to reach it. Which is exactly what you are doing to yourself! Just keep pushing! emoticon

There you go!!! You just answered your own question! Keep to your food plan, cardio, ST and keep up with those QF's!!! Throw your body a monkey wrench and do your things a tad differently!!! And yes, the slower you lose, the more apt to keep it off!! emoticon emoticon emoticon You know all the "secrets"! You are expert at how to eat and exercise!! No way you'll not maintain!!! Just never quit. Consistency is the key. You've changed your lifestyle and you know you're not "dieting"! Diets end, and lifestyles are forever.
