First Day of School

Monday, August 02, 2010

Today was my first day of school in my new school. I am thankful that I had lots of support from other staff members. It is different, but I liked it. I will be challenged this year and I think I need to be. I have been doing the same thing for the past five years. It worked and so I stuck with it. This year's class is different and will help me grow in my own knowledge. I will be trying a few new things tomorrow. I will say that I am tired tonight.
The best thing of the day was to come home and while cooking dinner, I got onto my email which was full of messages from Sparkpeople friends and found that I have been made a movtovator! This was the thrill of my week. I never thought that would happen. I enjoy being here and helping people. Thank you all.

How exciting, but I understand the hint of hmmm, maybe apprehension. Did you change grades, did you change any text book series? Have you changed schools before? Was it your choice or a district re-assignment? Rhetorical questions all. But all of these situations will affect your thinking. I go back next week to new students, with new needs. Huge change for me. Just found out I got my aide back. Yippee. We work so well together. I have a severe & profound needs classroom, but I work hand in hand with our regular ed teachers. I will try to stop back and see how you are doing.

Best of luck at your new school!! Moving schools w/different people can be very difficult. I would not want to change buildings once I have gotten comfortable where I am at!!

Two for One

Sunday, August 01, 2010

First, I found out the hard way that my stomach problems yesterday weren't caused by the way I ate on Friday. We were out of milk, so used UHT milk from the supplies for bad weather, you know that emergency stach of food stuff in case it snows. UHT milk can be kept without refrideration until opened. It only comes in whole or 2%. I get the 2% and I had it on my cereal yesterday and today. My stomach startng hurting within 30 minutes of eating both days. I think it must be the butterfat content becaue I use skim milk every day without issue. So that mystery solved.
Second, it is a new month so I am setting a new goal on my fitness. I am going to manually enter my calories burned during cardio and my goal is 1,000 calories per week. That will not count the calories burned during Body Pump. I will report back at the end of the month.
July's goal was to have better morning readings of my blood sugars. I can report that overall I did better. My A1C was 6 which is right where my doctor wants it. I would say goal met.

Hope that your tummy issues are better soon!! I too use skim milk, and can't stand the way 2% tastes anymore. My family says they don't see how I can drink that white water!(lol)

I love the way you have reset your goals. I haven't thought about doing that, have just set them and move on. But think I will try that.

Good luck on the new teaching position. And you have one of the most beautiful grandbaby's. Can't wait for my own.

Pay Back time!

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Yesterday I had Chinese for lunch and Mexican for dinner. I do not recommend that combination. My stomach has been upset all day long!
I did manage to get my mammogram done, a trip to the gym, the grocery shopping done, lesson plans written, schedule typed up, and now I am going to relax. I have earned it. I feel much better about Monday now.

Best of luck to you!

It's Pity Party Time - NOT!

Friday, July 30, 2010

This week has been hectic. I am in a new school, whose faculty welcomed me with open arms. I have been made to feel very much part of their family. I have spent a lot of hours working to get ready for Monday. Monday school begins. I have my schedule. I have work for the students. I have my speech times. I have my OT times. Sounds good doesn't it.
I haven't worked this hard to make my room great for years. Moving schools was difficult, but I think there is a reason for the move. There is a child in my class that I must be the one to meet their needs this year. It did make setting up the room harder...because I had to think about it! But I am ready for Monday and letting the learning process begin.
As for the title...I didn't make the best choices in food today. Had Chinese for lunch. All I can say is I didn't eat the whole thing! Had Mexican for dinner. I had grilled chicken tacos, and only a few bites of the beans. Yeah and the chips and guacamole dip. Haven't put dinner in the tracker yet. I mean lunch alone put me into tomorrow calories. It did taste good. And I know I will be back on track now. Next week, I will be eating on schedule, taking my lunch to school and doing well. Today was one day out of a life time, now I take my life back.

You are handling all these changes remarkably well. I would be a bundle of anxiety! Sounds like you have everything organized and ready. What ages are you teaching? How many students do you have? I am getting REALLY nervous for my school to start. I have two weeks. I always go through a period of self doubt before school starts. Right now I have this anxious feeling that I am not going to be able to handle it and I am not a good enough teacher. I must be overly emotional right now, cause writing that makes me feel like crying. I am so happy that we (SP) have a special ed. teachers team. I think it is going to be incredibly helpful throughout the year. It is really exciting to know that there is going to be someplace to go for support in this area, too.
Good luck on Monday. It sounds like you are going to have a fantastic day!

How exciting that you're starting at a new school! Sounds like all of your hard work will most definitely be worth it. Like you said, there must be a child whose life you're meant to touch specifically (heck, maybe even several!). :)

Good luck, and way to go on accepting falling off the wagon but remaining determined to get right back on track. I hope I'll be able to be as positive whenever I inevitably have an "oops" day. Hehe.

WOW, girl...your school starts early....our district starts on August 17th. So TWO MORE WEEKS.... a part of me is LOOKING forward to it and the other part isn't.

Why am I NOT looking forward - Summer is over *pouts* and my daughter will be at school ~

Why I AM looking forward - My daughter starts 8th grade (last year at the middle school), and hopefully working through the schools more this year. *fingers crossed*

Regarding your blog - Glad you enjoyed your "TREAT" ...but as we all know...we can get back on the bandwagon with our detemination and commitment.

*Step away from the sweet stuff* lol (not referring to your hunny *winx*....)

A Good Day

Thursday, July 29, 2010

I learned from yesterday and took my lunch. Good thing too.
I met all my students and parents this morning. It is going to be a wonderful year. I can't wait until Monday. I have lots to do tomorrow to be ready, but it will get done. I think I may go in early to get a head start on planning activities for at least the first few days.
I will take my lunch tomorrow, but I would really like a treat to eat lunch out but I think I have so much to do that bringing lunch will be better. the kids come first for me. I need to make lesson plans, prepare activities, and get things ready for Monday. Tomorrow will be a long day.

Wow, are you at a public school? My kids start back the second week of August and I thought that was early ;] What age do you teach?

I take my food to work with me. I get tired of trying to decide where to eat out and I eat much healthier when I take my own food.

Hope you have a great school year! emoticon

So glad that you are excited about going back to work! I always tell our students that the first day of school is like Christmas morning for the teachers and staff! We anticipate it all summer!
It sounds like you are being very organized and are planning your days even down to your lunch! That will pay such dividends in the long run!
I pray you can enjoy your weekend and have a terrific Monday!
