A new beginning... again

Out of the blue the other night while cleaning out my emails I decided to pop into SparkPeople to see what's new. I haven't been on it since last year, before all the changes. I had stepped away because I was in too much pain to actually do any exercises. I struggled with knee pain for over a year before I finally said to my knee doc, "let's do an MRI". We did and low and behold there was indeed a damn good reason for my pain .... torn meniscus. Not one, but two! I had the scope done last Halloween (10/31/2013). Been a slow progression to where I can do more.

In addition to all that knee business, I was also dealing with depression ... big time! I finally decided to talk to my PCP about it. Experimented with different meds to find what works or doesn't work for me. Found the generic for Wellbutrin works best. Doesn't make me as sleepy as the other meds out there. I have also been working with a therapist every week. Things are starting to look up.

I am making loads of changes this year. I've started doing more "self advocating". Recently been having difficulty with sleep and lack of energy. I asked my PCP for blood work to check my levels. Labs came back last week. B-12 is fine; Vitamin D is a bit low. Wonderful ... adding more pills to my morning stash, just what I love .... NOT. But, I'm learning to deal with it.

Alot of the books I have been reading for the past month of so are self help books on procrastination, habits, vitamin D, and energy. I'm learning a lot. Found some great books and some duds, of course. One of my faves is by SJ Scott called "Habit Stacking 97 Small Life Changes that take 5 minutes or less" found on Amazon. Because of this book I have started a Morning Routine. I have been pretty successful with it now for going on 3 months. This week having joined the Official Better Sleep Challenge, I am seeing a need for an evening/bedtime routine. I'm working on that.

Throughout these past 2-3 months I have been experimenting with different ideas to keep me motivated and going. Most of the ideas turned out to be duds, but one. I discovered an app on my tablet one night and decided to try it and see how it goes. Love it. It has worked loads for me, enough for me to purchase it earlier this month. For only $2.99 I now have the full app called iPro Habit Tracker. This little app has kept me on track with things like taking my meds every day and doing certain household chores that I dread like the dishes and the litter box. :-) I highly recommend it if you are struggling with old or new habits, good or bad.

Have an appt tmw (Thursday) with my therapist. Have loads to tell her! I've done a lot of great things this past week. This biggest for me is catching up on all my dishes piled up on the counter by my sink. Don't have a dishwasher and having the knee issues made it hard to stand for any period to get even a few done at a time. Now, I'm all caught up and working on staying on top of it. I have so far this week. ;-) Now, the next "project" I'm working on is the mountain of laundry. Hard to believe that being single I would have so much, but then again, the last time I did it was last month when I ran out of stuffs. I can easily get by with most of my clothes for a month. But, I'm making a new habit of staying on top of it once it's caught up. :-)

Nearly time for me to hit the hay. Gonna go get my "bedtime routine" started. Good night and I'll be around tomorrow. ;-)

    Interesting blog. Glad you are seeing results from self-advocating. I am good advocating for others but not so good when comes to advocating for myself. So congratulations on all the good changes you are seeing. Keep it up.

January 2013 comes to a close

I am actually looking forward to tomorrow, February 1st. Why? Because then I will not be broke. I can then get my bills sorted and out of the way so I can use the remainder of my funds for food shopping and purchasing at least one other fitness item to help me with my goals. I would very much like to have dumbbells again, haven't had a set since 2008! Could really use it as my arm strength is not what it was back then. And back then I was not only using the dumbbells, but was also bowling in a weekly league.

So, I'm gonna knock it out of the park tonight by getting as much as I can points wise. See y'all next month!



starting over again

Been on SP off-on since 2005. This year due to more serious issues with my knees, I am determined to get cracking. I have so far this month a "streak" if 17 straight days of logging on. Been wearing my pedo, even around the house; which in the past I never did. Started doing crunches and modified push ups earlier this week.
Today was decent weather wise. Temperatures in low 60's in Syracuse, NY; extremely rare for this area. I took advantage if it. Even though the sun wasn't out and it was windy, it wasn't all bad. Headed off to the library to pick up a book on hold, then went to Wal-Mart to pick up few things. One item I picked up is gonna help me exercise at home -- resistant band.
I am looking forward to giving it a try tomorrow. Gonna check the videos here for rb workouts.
One other thing I forgot to say, I put in a bid on eBay for the body media fit core armband. Fingers crossed I win the bid.

Have an awesome Super Bowl weekend! I will be rooting for the "east coast" team and celebrating my dog's 8th birthday! emoticon

I see I haven't posted a blog in a bit. My bad. I guess I've been busy. Have had lots more energy to do things now that I've recovered from the Hysterectomy and have my Iron levels where they SHOULD be. Last week I finally completed a project that I've been putting off since November 2009! I sorted and repacked 15+ storage bins and moved the whole thang from the middle of my large kitchen to the corner of my living room. Done, checked off and now I have walking space in my kitchen again!
I committed myself to getting the heck out of my apartment more this Winter than the past 2 Winters I've lived here. Have already done it twice now and am enjoying it. Started out by picking my 49th birthday (Jan 13th) to go to the mall to mall walk and then 'people watch' while I work on my latest knitting project: Scarves for the Special Olympics 2011. I'm just about done with the 2nd of 6 I committed to Virginia by Feb 28, 2011. My home state is not involved with this program. Their bad. LOL I tell ya, my right hand is really getting a 'work out' from all that knitting. I've been waking up in the AM with a stiff hand, but once I start knitting again, it's not so bad.
Well, time to get off the pc and get back to the knitting.

Welcome 2011!

I'm hoping that things will be better for me in the coming months, especially with regards to my health. I had a full hysterectomy in November, so I no longer have that as a "issue". Do still have to work on my high blood pressure and the diabetes.

I know I've been away for a while, but now I'm itching to get back on track and lose the 40-45 pounds I need to lose. That's just one of my Resolutions & Goals for the year. I also want to get more exercise and work on being more organized. I'm hoping that old and new friends here will help me keep on the "straight and narrow".
