just checking in

it's been frigid here lately. everyone's been healthy so that's something to be so greatful for. i need to remember to wipe down my machines at the gym PRIOR to using them...it's a habit i'm not into yet. i always wipe down after as a consideration and assume everyone else does, but i guess i should be more careful. i'm off to work again this eve until midnight so i should probably take a little rest before that. have a wonderful day, spark friends, what ever this day finds you doing. keep pushing forward. saw a cool quote at my gym the other day:

"right now someone busier than you is running" emoticon

Yeah, wiping the things down before use is a good idea. My club has paper towels and spray, so that helps. Keep up the good work!

What's up with this "hunger"

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

i just totally have the munchies tonight and don't typically get these. i made dinner for the boys (which isn't my strong suit as the husband's a chef) and had a wasa cracker with a laughing cow cheese wedge and strawberry jelly on it for myself as i didn't want mac n cheese. then i was still hungry so had some pecan halves with chocolate chips (about 1/2 cup). still wanting something so i had a glass of milk...what's my deal? i then brushed my teeth as it was nearing 7pm and i don't like eating "late" if i'm not planning on being up late (it's a whole different deal if i'm working eves and won't be done until 1130pm). but i still find myself wanting to eat although when i think about my stomach, i don't feel hungry. hormones maybe? i should almost force myself to go to be now so i won't be tempted anymore. emoticon

i am a cliche when it comes to a hormonale/pms-ing woman, i am not full unless i have something chocolate-related.
a little bit is okay.
fill up on healthy stuff and take a taste of the unhealthy stuff

awww i know this feeling i do it too, but mine can be a whole day, its like you just cant get enough to eat i think mine is nervouse energy, i work alot so when im home and all the chores are done i feel the need to do something, unfortunalty it is sometimes eating, really bad habit, im trying really hard to break this one, and a long good nite sleep is ok to get, your body may thank you....

Could be your body is craving a certain nutrient (calcium, iron, etc.). Are you taking multivitamins? That might help. Also, you ate very reasonably, not a lot of calories, so unless you ate lots of food earlier in the day, you should be doing fine, and you could have a small apple or carrots or another healthy snack.
I also read somewhere that sometimes we think we want food when our body really wants liquids. Try drinking some tea or water. Personally, I like sparkling water or diet soda, because the bubbles create more of an illusion of a full stomach, and I'm less likely to snack.
If you really don't feel hungry, it might help to go to sleep - if you can.
Keep up the good work!

Are you sure you're eating enough??? A wasa cracker with cheese and jelly is hardly enough. That's barely a whole snack!!! LOL You may be getting those dreaded munchies because of what you're eating, or because of what you're NOT eating.

Yeah! I'm back.

Friday, January 04, 2013

After a much needed week of rest, i've been back to the gym the past two days and am loving it! i was nervous i would lose my stamina as last week it took all i had to do the tasks around the house to keep it from falling apart and looking in shambles (laundry, wiping down surfaces, vacuuming). i was actually able to run 3 miles today and do 20 min on the elliptical which is totally awesome. during the run, i did get a little nervous as i started to feel "tingly" and maybe a little lightheaded. i focused on my breathing and listened to the feeling and it went away so maybe i was just psyching myself out. anyway, the horrid cough is almost gone and it's back to the good healthy energy-filled life. Thank you, God! emoticon

is it ok to exercise when sick?

Monday, December 10, 2012

i woke up feeling awesome while lying in bed, thinking "i'm gonna hit that gym" before heading to my 1st graders class for some in-class help. when i got out of bed and started moving around, the coughing came on. nasty coughing, green thick crap coughing. i almost opted out of working out but the setup was so perfect as the husband had the day off and could be home with the 3 yr old. "ok i'll take it easy and if i feel bad, i'll cut my workout short" i thought. when i got there, i was actually feeling ok. can the gym have magic healing powers, or what? well, 30 min of elliptical and 25 of stair stepping later, i walked out feeling like a million bucks. well...not exactally, but pretty awesome. this should be ok if our body lets us tolerate it, right? now onto the next part of my day, working 3pm to midnight. silly me didn't take a nap as i had coffee when i got home from the 1st grader's school and couldn't rest. guess if i'm truly sick, my body will have to try harder to prove it to me:)

It depends on how you feel. I think your body will tell you if you should rest. Hope you feel better!

I find working up a good sweat is the best thing for me when I'm congested. It seems to get things moving. Hope you're feeling better soon! emoticon

I usually work out when sick to a certain degree. If it's just a cough or sneezing but still feel ok, i"ll go. However if I can't breath thanks to a stuffed nose, or my body feels like it's going to fall over just from walking, yeah I stay on the couch then.

It's all about listening to your body!

Good for you toughing out, but keep in mind that not everyone has a great immune system. Just be sure to wipe down your machines with whatever anti-bacterial cleaner they have available, and just use common manners and don't sneeze on anyone emoticon If you happen to be running a temperature though, you are most likely contagious and should not go around anyone (workout at home if you feel up to it). Keep pushing fluids to drown the bug! Take care emoticon
