Too Busy!

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Here it comes ~ the too busy to breathe schedule.

emoticon Finish the dollhouse for the fundraiser in the next two weeks. Why, oh why do I have to be such a perfectionist?

emoticon Help the class organize the Children's Auction scheduled for March 9.

emoticon Write my article for our annual professional journal in the next two weeks.

emoticon Prepare the class for their March concert.

emoticon Begin work on our spring musical ~ The Lion King. Costumes, props, sets, rehearsals.....

emoticon One of our faculty is leaving after this year and I am on personnel. Life just got more complicated.

emoticon Oh, did I say teach class every day as well?

emoticon tick, tick, tick

I need to do as my favorite quote says:

" Meditate for at least 15 minutes every day. Unless you are too busy; then meditate for an hour a day."

What's the saying? "If you want something done, have a busy person do it," or something similar? We have faith in your ability to multi-task, Chris, and know you'll come through with flying colors, though you may look like this emoticon when all is done. Hang in there. -- Lou

On Our Messages to Children

Monday, February 25, 2013

I have always loved Pablo Casals and am honored to have had the opportunity to hear him play while he was still here. He was very old; his music was vibrant and exquisite. Pablo Casals was a brilliant musician and a brilliant man, he graced the earth with his wisdom as well as his music.

I love this quote:

“Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that will never be again And what do we teach our children? We teach them that two and two make four, and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we also teach them what they are? We should say to each of them: Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, the way you move. You may become a Shakespeare, a Michaelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel. And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel? You must work, we must all work, to make the world worthy of its children.”

~ Pablo Casals

Where might we all be if we had been hearing this message as children?

I have told my child that she is a marvel and that I love her from the first day she was born. I don´t do it as much these days, but I feel good about having done it. I think I´ll text her.

Many parents assume that their children know they love them when they need to hear it once in a while. These kinds of words express a lot of love. Thank you for sharing.

Working on the Dollhouse

Sunday, February 24, 2013

Several of my friends have been wondering when I would blog about my current dollhouse build.

I have been making the kind of progress on the dollhouse I can photograph. Up until now, it has been preparing and painting the large surfaces and trim pieces, nothing really worth taking photos of. This weekend, I finally got the wallpaper up, which makes it feel so much closer to completed.

I still need to make the flooring for the 2nd and 3rd floors, make the staircase, finish the trim work, paint the roof, make the window boxes, and glue everything in place. This afternoon, I put t together with tape to see if there were any details I goofed up on (amazingly not) and which details I still need to tend to. I would like to have it completed by this coming weekend.

This is what it looks like with the wallpaper in, but not constructed.

Taped together with all of the rooms, doors, and windows in place. Not done yet are the stairs, floors, and trim work, but it gives the idea of where I'm going with it. All together, there are 7 rooms, here are a couple of them

Baby's Room

The Living Room without the staircase.

The Attic Rooms ~ I could move in up there.

The house ~ the front view

This picture is a bit more accurate in terms of color.

Now I just need to finish it! In a few weeks it will be in the Scholarship Fundraiser Auction for our school. This time it will be in the live auction. Yikes! I may have to leave the room.

A Winter Walk in Pictures

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

I am not one to shy away from winter walks. I love winter and snow; although just like summer, I tire of it toward the end and crave spring.

Ohio weather is all over the place. Below zero one day, in the 40's the next. On Monday when I got out for this walk, the temperature had risen to the mid forties so there was a beautiful mist over the valley as the snow melted. The walk was slushy so I was glad for my Boggs which kept my feet warm and dry so I could get a long hike in.

The river looks so serene in the mist, with a light ice cover. The cascades were rushing though. The ice made everything much more dramatic.

I feel so fortunate to have such a gorgeous place to hike.

First, thank you for the goodie today .... I loved my star. Made me smile.

Second, thank you so much for sharing your hike in pictures. It is absolutely beautiful!! Your Stella looks so happy to play in the snow too. My Lydia would love it. She's a Siberian Husky. The one time that we've gotten snow here in Mississippi since I've had her, she refused to come back inside LOL She loved it! She is the only reason I'd love some snow here ;) Otherwise, I love my Mississippi. Our winters are just mild springs LOL

All in all, I loved your pictures. Looking at the water....I could just imagine the sounds and the crisp air as you stand near there. Just beautiful! Thank you again!!

Great photos! My older son and his wife live outside of Dayton. We've only visited twice, but were really impressed with the really nice hiking not too far from them. My profile picture is actually from a park there. Are you near Dayton, or are good hiking parks all over Ohio?
Oh, and if you want some snow, head on over here to Wisconsin - we're looking at about six inches before the day ends. You can help me shovel!

Partay!

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

The children insisted on celebrating Stella's birthday at school today. I made her a cupcake by freezing canned dog food in a cupcake wrapper and sticking a candle in it. The children made angel food cupcakes for the human participants.

The children helped her blow out the candle. And of course, no one would take a bite until after she took her first bite. Everyone sang Happy Birthday.

One spoiled rotten poodle!
