I found a new motivator!
Now, I have to admit that I am not the best housekeeper. I fall somewhere between my brother, whose house is in such a state that you have to walk through aisles of his collections to pass from one room to the next, and my sister's, the neatnik in the family. Fortunately, I am not much of a collector of things, with the exception of musical instruments, which in my opinion, add beauty to any setting. However, I approach housework in a disorganized, Gemini, ADD sort of way and avoid it until I can't stand the chunks.
So, just imagine my thrill when I found "Heavy Housework" listed in the cardio tracker! That is more of an incentive to haul out the vacuum cleaner, mops, and scrubbing pads than being disgruntled with the build-up of life's little messes.
The other thrilling bonus find was "Playing Musical Instrument." Oh my gosh! I could have been entering all of the 2 hour music sessions I have been having communing with my new best friend, my flamenco guitar. My very favorite cardio workout!
So this afternoon, I am enjoying sitting in a spotless house, watching the birds at the feeders, while the outside becomes more muted and lovely with this new blanket of snow. Now, this is contentment!

This ice 'sculpture' occurred naturally outside of my friend's house. It's actually pretty cool - it is hollow inside, and filling with water that is dripping from the eves. I think it is called an ice-straw.

Xīn Nián Kuŕi Lč! 新年快乐!
My niece and her friends dressed for traditional dance at their New Year Party. They got to have theirs in Alaska, but I had to cancel mine due to snow. Hmmmmm.......
Happy Valentine's Day and an auspicious New Year to all.

Saturday will bring in the Lunar New Year. This year will be the Year of the Tiger(老虎).
“Tiger symbolizes such character traits as bravery, competitiveness and unpredictability. Tigers love to be challenged and will accept any challenge if it means protecting a loved one or protecting their honor. They don’t worry about the outcome because they know they’ll always land on their feet. Don’t let their calm appearance fool you though; Tigers will pounce when they feel it’s necessary.
Born to lead, Tigers can be stubborn if they realize they’re not in charge. They have a slight tendency to be selfish but overall, Tigers are extremely generous. They’re very intelligent and they’re always on alert. Tigers are very charming and are well-liked by others. They are not motivated by money or power.
As they do their enemies, Tigers have a tendency to pounce on their work. Afterwards, they’re left feeling exhausted. Although they’ll soon bounce right back, over time this approach can cause problems with their health. Tigers need to develop a more balanced approach to life so they can utilize their energy more efficiently.
Tigers have a continual need to be challenged which may explain why they jump from job to job. This isn’t necessarily a problem because they’re smart and able to quickly master new subjects. The best jobs for Tigers are those that will lead them towards positions of leadership. Some suitable careers for Tigers include: advertising agent, office manager, travel agent, actor, writer, artist, pilot, flight attendant, musician, comedian and chauffeur.
Creative in their passion, Tigers will never bore their partners. They’re expressive, polite and trustworthy, but watch out. Tigers tend to dominate their relationships. This tendency is instinctive and when monitored closely, such behavior can be kept under control. Partners need to be equally active to keep up with the Tiger’s sense of adventure.”
Did you know that each zodiac has an element associated with it? They are: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, and Earth. Therefore, each element cycles around once very 60 years.
I was born into this world in the year of the Metal Tiger(老金) 1950. Unless I find the secret to immortality (green smoothies ??), I will not live to see another year of the Metal Tiger so this is truly my year to capitalize on my tiger strengths. My life has not been without challenges, twists, turns, and bumps in the road. Some of the challenges I have faced have been presented to me by the world, some have been from my own poor choices. The past five years of my life have been very difficult both emotionally and physically. I have been the care-taker, willingly and happily, to my ailing parents, to my grieving daughter, to my students after the death of a classmate. But sometimes the grief and emotional setbacks have seemed almost too difficult to bear, and it has taken its toll on me in many ways.
This year I turn the focus back on me and have set my sights on regaining my health and stamina. I love holding the image of a tiger in my healing mind; strong with muscles rippling, moving confidently through the world, basking in the sun, extending compassion and generosity to my greater family.
“The Metal element gives the Tiger its sharpness in action and speed of thought. Tigers born in the Metal year like to stand out in a crowd. With an inspiring assertiveness and competitive demeanor, they determine their goals and then do anything necessary to achieve them. The Tiger can be known to jump to conclusions or to act too quickly without weighing the options or understanding the consequences. This is a flaw Tigers must learn to curb.”
This year, with your support, I will do anything necessary to achieve my goals for rebuilding my strength and stamina. And I'll try not to jump to conclusions and act before weighing the consequences
Happy new year to all, and may my fellow tigers shine brightly this year.
