Easter Without Glenna

Sunday, April 24, 2011

It was a quiet Easter here, the first one without Glenna, my mother-in-law, who always arranged a gathering of friends and family after church. It seemed strange to spend Easter without her, all of these firsts are tough. With our grandchildren so far away, we just chose to have a quiet day, took Stella for a walk and did a little gardening together. I spent some time learning some new chords and songs on my little blue uke and checked the blue bird eggs in the nest box. There are 5 of them, and they were still warm, so mama blue bird is still tending them.

The flowering trees are looking lovely, and the birds are singing love songs.

I know what you mean! It was strange to celebrate Easter at my FIL's house the first year after my MIL passed. Glad you got to learn some new chords on the uke and that mama blue bird is still tending to her unhatched babies!

Yes, I am loving this time of year too with all of the flowering trees flowering and the song birds singing their songs! I wouldn't mind if the rain would stop for a few days though. :-)

I'm sorry that Easter brought sadness due to the void created by Glenna's loss. I am glad that you had good weather so that you could get out in nature and enjoy the beauty that is so healing.

I am right there with you Chris. I missed my little tradition of exchanging Easter baskets in the morning with my mom and then having a nice meal during the day. Luckily, I have good friends who helped me through the day. Glad to hear that your day was comforting to you.

Dear Glenna, RIP, and may you and DH find solace in the wonderful memories such as this one you are sharing here.

That first year is very very hard: and actually the second year too . . . and losing someone you loved really doesn't get easier, I don't think: just a little less immediately raw, with time. My sympathy to you in your loss.

Love to think of your warm bluebird eggs! I remember as a little girl bluebirds were almost extinct: and now with the elimination of DDT plus the building of all those specialized bluebird boxes they've made such an amazing comeback. It's so healing.

Condolences on your loss, Chris. It's nice when traditions carry on year after year, but it is also nice when, for whatever reason, new traditions are created. -- Lou

As you said, the "firsts" are difficult after you lose someone you love. I'm sure you had many happy thoughts of Glenna today though, and this honoured her memory. emoticon

Quite lovely! Glad you got to get out and plant with the kids today! It's been cold and rainy here all but one day this week, and will rain most of the weekend. I look at it as an investment in happy soil for happy plants and a happy planet!

Busy But Better

Thursday, April 14, 2011

It's been a busy week and I have had very little time to write a blog or even check in with my friends and teams, which is what I usually do before blogging. Just a quick blog this evening before I head off to bed, so I can be a perky and energetic teacher tomorrow.

I have been enjoying the sunnier weather the last couple of days and getting outside more. There is something so healing about just having the sun hit my face. The sun is finally beginning to get a little punch to it.

My twice a week trips to my chiropractor are finally beginning to pay off. I am not completely pain free, but I am definitely moving around better, much more comfortable taking walks, and able to sleep better.

I made some furniture for the fairy house after work today:

Tomorrow I am taking my students bird watching; I'm really looking forward to that!

Osh Kosh is donating clothing to to children of Japan for each paper crane donated. This is something you can do alone, or as a family. The link below has more details, plus a link to paper crane origami instructions.

Have a lovely Friday... the weekend is almost upon us.
