Making Do - Getting By

Thursday, March 18, 2010

It just seems that this flu bug gets worse instead of better - I am very frustrated. My aide came down with this and is out now, so I am also short handed at school. Since my aide is 84 years old, I would just as soon he stayed home and makes a full recuperation.

That said, it is an absolutely glorious day! The skies are bright blue, the sun is warm, the grass is turning green, and spring is in the air. I got out this afternoon for a walk in the field with Stella, who bounded around like a maniac.

My seedlings were getting leggy, so I repotted them, then set them out on the hood of my car for an hour to enjoy the sun, protected from the breeze.

I have also set up the nursery for the chicks, who should start hatching Sunday or Monday. I am not at all certain that the chick in the cracked egg has survived. It feels a wee bit lighter to me than the other eggs. I'll know more next week.

This evening I spent some very pleasant time with my flamenco guitar. I didn't get to play during the two weeks family was here, as there was too much to do. It felt wonderful to play music again,

Somehow, I managed to get in my 10,000 steps today, worked out a little bit with my medicine ball, weights, and foam roller, and did some yoga. All in all, not bad for my 6th day of feeling lousy. Actually, I'm pretty pleased.

Now if I can finally get a good night's sleep.

I'm glad you at least had nice weather today..we had snow, yuck!

Do you have eggs in an incubator? It will be interesting to see if there is a chick in your cracked egg...I seem to remember something about humidity being important for the eggs, but it's been many years since we attempted to hatch them out. Little chicks are so cute (at first!)..we raised broilers for a few years and the hatchery would ship us the little box of peeping day old chicks. We would pick them up first thing in the morning and have to count each of them...100 little tiny chicks all in a little box! They were adorable.

Take care, I hope you feel better soon.

It's VERY cute! I wish I could bring my Snaps to school, she's such a little love bug. She spent her first day with me in class, brought to me by another teacher. I still have pictures of her the kids drew, me and Snaps with chalk in her paw at the board. She was tiny and completely fearless, just wanted to love everybody in sight! That's my baby!

My April Vision Collage

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

By the time I reduce it enough to actually load onto the page, it is hard to read.

The quote reads:

"What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

The written goals include:

Make Time to Walk in the Woods
Make Music
Enjoy the Small Things
Bake Healthy Bread
Plan Kitchen Remodel
Lend a Helping Hand
Take Positive Risks
Be Brave

I love your goals and what a great quote. Very good idea, especially since this is about changing our lives, not just losing weight.
The little snowdrops (I think thats what they are!) are so pretty...I used to have a few in my garden and I loved how they would peek through before all of our snow was gone, they were always so exciting to see after our long winters.

A Short Whine

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

It is hard to stay on track with exercise when you have a sinus headache, sore throat, insomnia, and are trying to work full time.

After blogging, I am going to get out my foam roller, do a little core, then treat myself to some roller massage.

I am really looking forward to recovery from this bug!

Finding the Rainbows

Monday, March 15, 2010

Well, I am still feeling sick. I went to work today and let the children know that my throat hurt, my head ached, and I didn't get enough sleep so in all likelihood, I would be cranky. They were pretty accommodating trying to work quietly, and tolerant when I was grumpy. Many of them had have this bug (which is why I have it!) and understand what I feel like.

When I got home, all I wanted was a nap, but that didn't happen.

I'm trying to look on the bright side, and there is one - several really:

Snowdrops, my first flowers of the spring, are blooming.

I got to spend a week with BOTH of my sons.

It was fun having a gaggle of girls here when my niece stayed with me.

We uncovered the first of the daffodils.

So, I expect I'll be feeling better sometime in the near future, I will adapt to the time change, and get over my empty nest revisited feeling. In the mean time, there are many blessing to be thankful for, and happy about.

Hot honey/lemon/Ricola toddy tonight, and hopefully, a good night's sleep.

I so enjoyed my students. They always knew I cared about them when they did not feel well, either physically or emotionally. They returned the caring to me. It was delightful. Your blog of your sons visit made me think of last Thanksgiving when I saw both of my daughters in one place as the same time. It was so wonderful. I sat back and watched them interact with each other and then with me. They were the ones in charge. They knew it and they "took" care of me (nothing wrong with me) they just wanted to do that for me. I am beginning, I mean 'beginning' to contemplate how I might volunteer some time at the schools. This time, I think I want to be involved at the high school level. I have to think about this though because it will definitely be a commitment I need to follow through once I start it.
Thank you for always supporting me in my trials and errors - I try to laugh about most of them. I am just plain tired of 'crying'. LOL.

Get as much rest as you can...that seems to be the best healer for me anyway. We should be seeing some springtime activity in our Garden now that much of the snow is gone. Those Snowdrops are gorgeous!! What zone are you in where you live? Wondered if they would grow here in the 4/5 zone area...
