The Auction

The Scholarship Fundraiser Gala was awesome!

As I posted in my blog comparing this March with last March, it was a lot colder this year so a bit hard to decide what to wear to the event. I had this cute tunic-top that I decided would work for the event, once again bypassing my cute and elegant LBD.

I think I prefer the artsy look.

And my son may have just turned 40, but I'm holding my own thank you very much. emoticon

That auction committee did an awesome job transforming a run-down college gym into a lovely venue for the affair, deciding to keep an industrial look to the decor.

These looked especially nice lit up as the evening progressed.

Vintage school photos also graced the tables. This on has one of my sons in it.

The food was fabulous! I had saag paneer, naan, chick peas, and chutney for dinner. Yum!

My dollhouse was on display in the silent auction room so it could be viewed, but this year the auction committee decided to put it in the live auction instead. So after being out for people to see, it was moved to the live auction room. I felt really shy and anxious about it being in the live auction, but it ended up being kind of fun. The auctioneer emphasized the time and love a teacher from the school put into it. And it looked sweet up on the auction block.

I had several people tell me they were disappointed not to win it, so maybe (maybe) I'll do another build next year.

Love the doll house. I always said I would make one when I had a granddaughter, but that's starting to look unlikely (4 grandsons so far), so perhaps I should think about making one anyway.

The scholarship fundraiser was great and the dollhouse was very successful ~ she brought in $550! This year they put my dollhouse in the live auction and it did much better.

Fun evening; I hope we met our fundraising goals.

Last Pic of Dollhouse Before it Goes

Friday, March 22, 2013

The addition of the flower boxes really made it pop!

Wish it luck at the Scholarship Fundraiser Auction Gala tomorrow night.

I have been having anxiety dreams about it. A lot of work, time, love, and expense went into building it; I hope it brings an excellent price to support scholarships. My friends who followed my blogs about this last year's donation probably remember I was disappointed and promised never to build another dollhouse for this event again. So much for me and my promises.... I'm too much of a softie, I guess.

This is last year's donation. My consolation for it not bringing in nearly as much as I hoped was that an absolutely delightful child got it and has been having fun with it ever since. She keeps me posted with what new things she has added to it.

The auction committee is trying to help this year's house bring in more by putting it in the live auction instead of the silent auction. This is causing another level of stress. Lots of in basic introvert triggers are getting set off.

I'll let you know how all of this goes.

The flower boxes are lovely. And: I'm glad last year's project at lest went to a child who really appreciates it. Too bad her parents couldn't (or didn't) bid higher . . . . Maybe a raffle ticket approach would be fairer with a minimum number of tickets to be sold??

I'm sorry that last year's dollhouse didn't bring in as much as you had hoped, but what a wonderful consolation! And it may be that her parents bid as much as they could afford, and she might not have ended up with it if someone else had bid up the price.

I admire you for your amazing talent, and donating it for such a worthy cause.

Last March/ This March

Thursday, March 21, 2013

Last March was unusually warm, this March has been unusually cold. I was looking through photos of my walks last March. On this day last year, the wild flowers were in full bloom.

Dutch Man's Breeches

It was a very beautiful spring!

This past week has been very cold with wind chills in the teens. I have walked, but not gone for the long hikes I went on last time this year. So far, the spring flowers have consisted of snowdrops, sweet and bright.

It is seasonal for them; last year was an early spring. I am trying to keep a good outlook but it is hard! I want to feel some heat with the sun and walk in the woods visiting my old friends, the spring flowers. I know it will happen, but I am growing restless and impatient. I am weary of wearing a heavy coat, hat, and gloves. How ready I am to shed all of that and feel the sun in my hair!

I guess I will have to be patient for a couple more weeks at least. The predictions for the foreseeable future are cold with chances for snow and wind. I am hoping for pleasant weather to arrive by spring break.

LOL! My spring veggie seeds are sitting here waiting to be planted. I am so ready to go play in the dirt!
