Fitbit and Sundries

Monday, March 18, 2013

I think my Fitbit did finally decide to quit entirely. At least it is not registering when I check into the Fitbit site. So, there you go, Fifi! You will be WAY ahead of me in the rankings. emoticon

The new one is in the mail. I am not certain how long it will take to get here. For now, I will just have to take my walkies without an techno~gratification.

Now that I have the dollhouse for the scholarship fundraiser completed and out of the house, I have had some fun getting back into my original build, the Faerie House, which has been on the back burner for over a year. I posted a couple of pics of my progress with putting moss on the roof on my last blog. Yesterday and today I did some interior work. I made a couple extra ceiling beams to hang herbs from ( I only have this one installed), built a spit for the fireplace to hang the dying vat, and made some cheesecloth curtains for the bedroom.

Work has been super busy. I am on the hiring committee for the new teacher, getting my class ready for the spring musical, getting things ready for the Scholarship Fundraiser this weekend.

Oh, and I had a bad dream about it. Only about 13 people came, and they showed a different dollhouse first. There was no interest in mine. I guess my anxiety is showing... emoticon

At the very least, I can say that life is definitely not boring!

And my dog....

... is a total goofball!

St. Patty's Day ~ A Good Day for Wee Folk to Do Some Roofing

Sunday, March 17, 2013

With all of the other projects I have been working on, the Faerie House has been sadly neglected. Must be because it's St. Patrick's Day; the faeries decided to take matters into their own hands and fix the roof of their house.

Armed with the tools of the trade, they tackle the roof.

They noticed the chimney needed some alignment and repair and took care of that problem.

And all I had to do was watch! After a hard day's work they are ready to join me for a pint o' Guinness.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Response From Fitbit Support

Thursday, March 14, 2013

I had heard that Fitbit had great customer support and I am happy to report that I have had the same experience with them. They are great! I sent them the photo and my receipt. The Fitbit Ultra is apparently no longer available, but they will be sending me a new Fitbit One as a replacement. From what I have read about it, it tracks the same things, so no problem.

Fifi and Jim ~ sorry to bust your bubbles. emoticon

My Fitbit fell apart and can no longer stay together, but that puppy keeps on ticking. I have it taped together and stick it in my pocket. I can no longer read my progress on it, but it still records and connects wirelessly I discovered today when I went to read about the Fitbit 1. Great little instrument!!!

emoticon

Today I gave a tutorial about how to make paper clay rocks and bricks like the ones I make for my dollhouses, for my students who were interested. They did great work! Maybe some new miniaturists coming up? Some are planning to use the technique in diaramas to go with their research reports. Fun!

The sun is out. emoticon
The birds are singing love songs. emoticon

And even the poodle is grinning!

Smile!

My Fitbit Broke!

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

I'm not certain what happened. While I was teaching today, my fitbit just 'exploded.' I was standing, talking to the children, and the front part of my fitbit just popped off and landed on the floor. It was a sad surprise for me, and a great opportunity for the children to take a look at waht it looks like inside. They are always fascinated with my fitbit.

I've sent a note about this problem to the support people at fitbit. I'll keep you posted with what they respond with. I have heard from others that they are very helpful.

We have been making maple syrup at school. It has been a good year for tapping the maple trees.

After boiling the sap down we are getting lovely amber maple syrup. We made pancakes with maple syrup for snacks yesterday.

I put the final touches on the dollhouse this morning by planting the window boxes. I never think it is going to be hard to part with one of these, and each time I make one as a donation, it is a little bit hard to let it go.

Okay, off to a board meeting. But before I leave, just a little taste of spring. Oh my, how I need it!

Gotta love those snowdrops!

Done! Woohooooo!!!

Monday, March 11, 2013

I have finally finished the dollhouse I have been making for the scholarship fundraiser! The only thing left to do is to put flowers in the window boxes, but I need to make a trip to JoAnn's to get tiny flowers to put in them.

I decided to make a 'slate' roof. I used paint to make the slate effect and then varnished it with a satin varnish. I think the effect came out pretty well.

This is a detail of the porch. The color is better in this photo. The whole house photo got a bit washed out. I made the stone masonry with paper clay.

The house from the back.

The kitchen. I made the wainscoting out of balsa wood that I scored to look like paneling. I don't think it shows up very well in the photo.

Living Room

Child's Room. I really like the wallpaper border.

Bedroom

Attic

Done, done, done! Along with another vow never to do this for a fundraiser again.

I love the house. I'm glad it's finished. And now to get on with other aspects of my life....

The roof has a nice broken reflection of the windows just like you would see in real life on a damp spring morning.
I am curious about how much it will receive at auction
