So how long can a plateau last

Saturday, August 04, 2012

I have been eating 1200-1400 cal a day exercising 5 days a week and I have been stuck at the same weight and measurements for months now. Yes I've gone down a lb just to go back up a few days later. I am a soy allergic vegan, so have always been careful what I eat but, come on body, really? I am not willing to change from a vegan diet but something needs to give.
If you have any advice other than "throw away the scale"
I wanted to get to a certain weight in a bit over a month(It was 6 months when I started) but I know now its impossible unless I go to the HCG stuff and no thanks :(

I've heard that to avoid plateaus, we should change up our usual exercise routing every six days.

Hi! I agree with the above comment! You have to mix it up a bit! I started the P90X workout about two months ago and it is a combination of Yoga, Stretching, Cardiovascular with Plyometrics which is jump training. That will really get your heart rate a pumping! Also, just stretching really improves flexibility! I know you can do this, but it takes time! If you can get either the insanity program or the P90X program, either one will jump start any fitness program to it's maximum level! I wish you the best with your goals! Hang in there and don't give up! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've been there!...I know your plateau frustration! What worked for me was to REALLY step up my fitness game. I started the BeachBody Insanity program (something I never thought I could do at my age--53) and increased my strength training. I saw visible results (arm definition, loss of my stubborn "muffin tops," and hourglass waist that I figured was gone forever) in two short weeks! I'm still 15 pounds from my goal weight...But after stepping up my fitness game, I just KNOW I'll get there! I know you can too!

The last 10

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Geez I go down 1 lb and back up again. The last 10 is the hardest is what people say(that I believe is true). Also muscle is heavier than fat (that I know is bull$*!t)

My body seems to like to stay at this weight and it is a bitch! I wanted to be at my goal by Sept. but now that seems totally impossible. What the heck do I have to change to get my scale to start moving down again. (DO NOT tell me to throw away the scale. ) My tape measure is not very helpful either nothing seems to change. I know I am not the only one going through this, but I am the only one in my group of friends even dieting (one of my friends is trying to gain weight). It just sucks and I am venting. I do not expect anyone to have a solution, it is what it is.....

Hating my scale

Friday, June 01, 2012

How the hell has it gone up???!!!! I am sticking to my calories, drinking water and working out! This pisses me off. I am up 3, ok 2.5lbs. emoticon
Why is it that as soon as I feel like I am making progress and losing weight I get slapped in the face. I had just made it to the 130's now I am back in the 140's.
Do I have to fricken starve? I already have the cleanest diet of anyone I know and have the food scale working overtime. Hoping venting and not just throwing my arms in the air and giving up will help me get through this speed bump on the road.

Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions but I am a bit obsessive/compulsive and the scale stays. Wouldn't even know where to buy calipers on Maui (and shipping here is pricey) .As it is since I started my measurements haven't budged even when the scale does. I just have to realize it's just one of those days. I even went surfing, on my 1st attempt at a wave I hit the bottom dinged (damaged) my board, my hand, knee and shoulder. Now I get to go to work....

Hang in there it is frustrating! I have increased my workout to 1-1 1/2 hrs a day instead of just 30 mins and my scale is also increasing! Who invented the scale anyways.... must have been a man.... emoticon

Have you eaten more sodium than usual lately? Is it about to be that time of the month? Are you doing a lot of strength training and building muscle?

These things will play a role in your weight gain. But you aren't fat, you don't have a lot of weight to lose. If were you, I would stop focusing on the scale and the number you weigh and focus more on lowering your body fat percentage. The scale isn't everything. As you lower your body fat percentage and gain muscle, you will likely not like the number on the scale anyway. Throw it out. And get some calipers.

Back home and getting back on track

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Flew back home yesterday. I did gain 1.4 lbs on my week in So. Cal. but that was expected. With dealing with my family, not having a place to cook, eating out and my brothers wedding I'm glad I didn't gain more! The day I flew back was a wash but today I am going shopping to fill my fridge with good fresh veg and fruit.

I have a new goal and will start working out tomorrow with my friend. Today I have started tracking my food again and will take off that darn pound and more to come!

Thanks. I've been vegan for 16 years so my family knows and makes sure there is something I can eat. It is just difficult to stick to my calories because I am not sure how much oil they use. I am so happy to be back in my comfort zone(home) where I have control!
The one thing I did do was work out a bit, I do think that helped :)

that's *great* that you only gained 1.4 lbs - when i left i was hoping to keep any gain to 2 lbs. and considering you were at a wedding, and in situations where it's difficult to eat vegan, you did a terrific job! emoticon

now that you're back on track at home, you'll do fine! emoticon

Tracking food impossible while traveling 4 me

Sunday, May 13, 2012

I tried for a few days but it's just too hard. I don't want to be sitting at a restaurant with my family logging approximate portions on my phone instead os looking at them while we have a conversation. I only see my family a few times a year and don't want to appear rude or disinterested. I also do not have access to a scale so i am hoping I did not do too much damage to the progress I had made. Either way i am going home in a few days and I'll have all the comforts including a food scale and one to weigh me on too.

My brother is getting married today and it's his day to be in the spotlight!

i found exactly the same problem while traveling earlier this month - i tried to track the first two days, and then gave up on it. we compensated by walking - lots! and trying to make the best choices possible. it seemed to work...
