Prayers for our friends in the UK/North of France

Monday, October 28, 2013

My husband sent me a link to a news story about the hurricane passing through the south of England and north part of France. He has a special empathy as he was actually in the south of England on holiday when the "Great Storm" of 1987 (referenced in this article) happened. Fortunately they were not harmed and were able to secure housing for the few days after their event and before time to fly home. They had planned to sight see a few extra days. Reading about this years storm brought him a lot of memories (we were not dating then.).

Restart My Streak again. Day 1 and other minor issues...

Sunday, October 27, 2013

Got my rebounding done this morning. Day one of my rebounding streak, again. I messed around last night after I got home and didn't do my rebounding at all. Then it turned midnight and there I was - busted! I decided to get some sleep and then start my streak again later this morning.

We went to the symphony this afternoon (we budget and get season tickets so it's kind of a built-in "date" schedule too.), and then met my mom for dinner, and I was feeling itchy when we got home. After we got home, I had already decided to take it easy and go to bed early this evening. Well, Jon came downstairs a few minutes ago and announced that he needed only about 300 feet short walk to finish his Spark Tracker for the day (11,000 steps is his goal - go cheer him on at SPOCKKS ).

So, I thought I could handle a short walk and off we went, walking together. Got past the water tower and "Twinkle Toes" lit up, announcing he was done, but by then I wanted to "finish the block". We kept walking around "the block" (our "blocks" are not the nice neat checkerboard rectangles like the rest of Wichita, where it is 8 blocks to a mile going N/S and 16 blocks to a mile going E/W. Our "blocks" look like slubs of odd-ball sized pasta. Consequently it's harder to calculate mileage.). Got done with the one block and I was enjoying talking, and I decided to do a figure 8 around the other "block" west of us,

Was nearly done with that block and had gotten back to our street when I realized the rumbling and tooting wasn't just the tummy excited to be walking, but that I needed to off-load some baggage and pretty soon. We began walking faster and faster. Pretty soon I began thinking of the famous book "Fifty Yards To The Outhouse" by Will E Makit and Betty Dont. I asked Jon if he ever read that one, and he picked up the phone and called DS, telling him "Mayday! Emergency! Unlock the front door, don't ask questions, open the door, get out of the way, here comes your mom!" And off I trotted rapidly on down to our driveway, unbuckling my britches as I got closer! Got them unzipped at the door and MADE IT to the loo!

(These were nice new Ponte knit pants I got from Lands' End last month, so no, I didn't want to mess them up!!).

So hey, got my rebounding streak re-started and got a walk in AND a short jog!!

Hope y'all have a great week! Keep all your FurBabies inside this week, especially if they are black furry FurBabies - don't want to hear of any harm coming to them!!

Now to get to sleep before 11 or at least 11:30!!

I did rebound last night. Late.

Friday, October 25, 2013

So I did rebound (jump on the mini-trampoline thing) last night, around 9:30 or 10 pm but then it was nearly midnight when I realized I hadn't tracked it online. URk! I ended up having to add it retroactively because then the clock went to 12 midnight just as I picked up my phone to enter it into the tracker. OH well. It takes awhile to get the groove thing going, right?

But... net result was that I was energiized and so I didn't get to SLEEEEP until after 1:30 am. Not very brilliant. And today my girlfriend texted that she's done with mid-terms and so we're off to celebrate with girlfriend time. I'm doing my rebounding BEFORE I leave!!!

Need to download my Pointer Sister's album so I can play "Jump! Jump!" !!

Have a great day!

Good that you got in the exercising--but I know what you mean about exercising too close to bedtime-it elevates your metabolism and keeps you going

Finished rebounding! yaay! I let the Bollywood Cardio video rattle around in the background. Sort of followed the Indian Beauties but some of their steps like hopping around on one foot are a bit more advanced even for on terra firma, and bordering on insanity on a rebounder. But the background beat makes a good rhythm for just rebounding. I added arms as I could, and didn't feel obligated to stay for the entire 16 minutes. Another day, another video. I'm off for my bath and to have some GF time! YAAAY!

Restarting my Reboundng Streak.

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

I started a streak of rebounding every day - figured that was something I could do indoors every day, regardless of excuses. I set it to 10 minutes a day but rebounded 20 minutes on Sunday and 20 minutes on Monday. So that was a two day streak.

Yesterday was Tuesday, should have been the third day of my streak. ("Don't look, Ethel - it's the Streaker!"). Instead, I went to the doctor, got a steroid shot (presumably cortisone?) in my left hip and a prescription for antibiotics, and the day just got away from me. So, no rebounding. But I did go for a walk later that night, so I wasn't a total slacker.

Today, I rebounded again for 20+ minutes. Yay. Day one of the streak!

Now my eyes are bugging me - not sure if it's lack of sleep from last night or a side effect of the steorid shot, or what. If I hurry, I can make it to bed before 11 pm.

This Blog sounds like a Spiritual aspect to SparkPeople??

Does this sound familiar??

I was browsing around at an interesting website - "Life Hope & Truth" after seeing some of their neat photos illustrating biblical scriptures, and hit upon this article:

"A healthy diet is not a short-term strategy for weight loss. It is a long-term commitment to biblical and commonsense principles of healthy eating.
Healthy Diet

Diets don’t work for most people! If you are looking for a quick fix for losing weight, this article is not the one for you. Why not? “Diets”—as understood by the customary definition of restricting yourself to small amounts or special kinds of food or supplements in order to lose weight—most often result in gaining more weight."

Here's the Twitter that originally caught my eye:

I think the way I use the term "diet" or was taught to isn't what most people mean by the term "diet"

I use diet to mean how I am going to eat the rest of my life........

Even in this more enlightened age I still hear people at the school where I volunteer talking about restricting their calories for a short period of time to lose x pounds and then go back to their regularly scheduled program afterward... usually for a cruise or vacation or some nonsense.. they aren't serious about eating better forever.. just temporary weight loss
