Well I moved back to Australia in September 2008 and I have found it realy hard to settle in. I started to put on loads of weight with all the food I hadn't eaten in over 10 years. I just couldn't resist the dim sim, spring roles, potato cakes, Tim Tams etc etc. I increased my portion sizes too.
I stopped all that a few months ago now.
I decided I wanted to do the Great Train Run so I started a proper training programme and only ate foods that would benefit my training. That thought really helped me turn a corner.
I have cut out most wheat products (which was mainly simple carbs) and I now get a much better variety of complex carbs such as oats, rye, buckwheat, spelt and rice. I can still eat the things I love like chocolate, cake (have some great flourless recipes) icecream and cheese. I even make a great pizza using spelt tortillas. Its all in the portion sizes now.
The weight is probably coming off slower now that it has when I have lost weight in the past but that is probably for the best. As my goals are now fitness goals, such as running in races, I don't feel the hurry to lose weight like I did in the past when my goal would have been to be a particular weight or size by a particular date.
I am much happier doing things this way.
