I am back and I need your help!

Friday, January 10, 2014

I lost 60 pounds with spark people in 2010 an maintained the loss for over a year and then life happened and I slowly gave up the healthy habits I worked so long and hard to create. Long story short, I regained almost all of the weight.

It is a long boring story…..I could complain about all of the challenges that I have in my life but it's such a bunch of bull. When I stopped tracking and exercising I started gaining back the weight. I wish I could get to a place where I don't have to track my calories and don't have to think about my food constantly, but the sad truth is I will need to do this for the rest of my life to achieve my health goals.

All I know is the more weight I gained the more disconnected I felt from my true self. I want to find myself again. I want to be healthy and I want to be happy. In other words I need a SPARK! I did it before...I can do it again!

I finally found my way back to spark but I felt too ashamed to restart with my old page. After all, I was a spark motivator! After thinking about it I have decided that is silly. I need to own my struggles as well as my success! However, I still think I need to stick with my new spark page and user name. I will leave this page up to remind myself of my past success and motivate myself when I need it.

If you were a spark friend to me in the past I am asking you to add me as a friend and support me on my new journey. My user name is now WILLIS9301.

With your support I can do this! Onward and upward!

Laura

I write this with tears streaming. Thank you for being willing and courageous enough to share....it gives me strength to do the same.....I am right there with you and so frustrated to be at this point again. I have gained about 50lbs back of the 130 I lost and very likely dashed all hopes of my 5th half marathon this April. I am so disappointed in myself.....I have lost at least 30 of this 50lbs I don't know how many times. I have been unable to find the heart or will to even try to get back on track lately....I am so tired of fighting what for me as well, will be a lifelong battle....every day. I know exactly what you mean about feeling disconnected from yourself.....I want that connection to me and to life back. So funny, I too thought about a ne page....something completely separate from the past failures AND successes....not really in terms of a fresh start....but one that starts from here...and not there....if that makes any sense lol. I know we can do this...we've done it before....I will be cheering you on and trying to get my head in the game as well! From one Laura to another....you GO girl!

Book Review: Everything Changes by Jonathan Tropper

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Plot Synopsis:
Zack King's comfortable life has gone seriously off the rails. He's still grieving for the best friend who died in his arms, but that's only part of the problem. He hates his job. He's not sure he really loves the girl he's engaged to. He may be in love with his best friend's widow and now he may have cancer. And then the long-lost father he despises shows up with reconciliation in mind…

My Take:
The central characters in this book are insecure, witty and all too human. The characters and situations are sad and funny at the same time. This book is a great read. Another great book by Jonathan Tropper!

I Just picked up 'This is Where I Leave You' by him. I haven't read anything by him so thought I would give it a try. I just finished 'Me Before You' by JoJo Moyes. Oh my, what a great read. So much packed into this one! I thought you would enjoy it. Absolutely will be bought up for film rights! Enjoy!

Book Review: This is Where I Leave You by Jonathon Tropper

Friday, February 08, 2013

Plot Synopsis from Amazon:
"The death of Judd Foxman's father marks the first time that the entire Foxman clan has congregated in years. There is, however, one conspicuous absence: Judd's wife, Jen, whose affair with his radio- shock-jock boss has recently become painfully public. Simultaneously mourning the demise of his father and his marriage, Judd joins his dysfunctional family as they reluctantly sit shiva-and spend seven days and nights under the same roof. The week quickly spins out of control as longstanding grudges resurface, secrets are revealed and old passions are reawakened. Then Jen delivers the clincher: she's pregnant. This Is Where I Leave You is Jonathan Tropper's most accomplished work to date, and a riotously funny, emotionally raw novel about love, marriage, divorce, family, and the ties that bind-whether we like it or not."

My take:
Alternating between funny and sad this book made me both laugh out loud and almost cry because of its honesty. I think I found a new favorite author. EXCELLENT BOOK!

2 Book Reviews: The Taker and Coming Out of Hiding

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

The Taker by Alma Katsu: Literary Fiction.
A woman in the emergency room is a suspect for murder and begs the doctor to help her escape from the authorities and tells him the story of her true love for a beautiful man that has lasted for over two centuries. Reminiscent of “Interview with the Vampire”. This book started slow but I ended up hooked!

Coming Out of Hiding by E. Ayers: Romance.
A man, wounded in both mind and body after serving his country at war, struggles to fight his way back to living his life. (Warning: The story line touches on sexual dysfunction issues related to the hero's war injury and this may be too explicit for some readers). This is not a book I normally would have picked, but it was a free kindle book on amazon so I decided to give it a try. I ended up liking it. (don't pay attention to the trashy cover-this really is more of a love story than anything else)

Two Book Reviews: Life Among Giants & Switch: How to Change When Change is Hard

Monday, January 21, 2013

Life Among Giants by Bill Roorbach: Literary Fiction/Crime. A book that feels like it tries to combine four separate plots: the professional football player with a dysfunctional family, the world-famous ballerina with a tortured marriage to a rock star, the aspiring chef with a cross-dressing partner, and the failed investor who ends up murdered in the fallout of a financial scandal. All four are intriguing literary concepts. The result is a crowded - although at times interesting- novel. Using a non-linear approach, Life Among Giants tells almost the entire life story of its protagonist, but the author chooses to jump decades into the future or past at seemingly random moments. Although the murder mystery at the core of the book helps to maintain the narrative flow, the payoff in the final chapters was underwhelming. This book was just OK for me. * *

Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard by Chip Heath: Non-fiction. Why is it so hard to make lasting changes in our companies, in our communities, and in our own lives? The obstacle is a conflict that’s built into our brains. Psychologists have discovered that our minds are ruled by two different systems—the rational mind and the emotional mind—that compete for control. This tension can doom a change effort—but if it is overcome, change can come quickly. Lots of really useful ideas about change both professionally and personally. EXCELLENT BOOK . Well Worth reading and super interesting! * * * * *
