Tonight was my final pre-5K training run. Drumroll...

I NEVER WALKED ONCE!!! I finished the entire 3.1 miles in 35:01!!!

I'm so amazed at the power my body has... If I'm willing to trust it and have faith that I CAN DO IT! I have worked hard and trained and done the right things.

A couple things I did observe tonight:

1. If I get tired, I need to drop my head a bit. It actually makes my breathing easier, relaxes the tension from my shoulders/arms/hands, and puts more energy into moving my feet!!!

2. If I can make it constantly through the first 1.5 miles. I'M GOLDEN! During that first 1.5 miles my body is SCREAMING... STOP MAKING ME RUN!!! My legs feel heavy... I'm sluggish... But then all of a sudden, everything changes. That must be my breaking point. From there on out, I may feel tired, but it REALLY DOES feel easier...

You have always been able to do anything you set your mind too. I guess that hasn't changed. When you get home tomorrow night, take some me time and get lots of rest. Saturday morning will be here bright and early. Do what makes it easier for you. This is your journey!!! Best of luck to you on your 5K!!!

Guiding Light...

Just wanted to say as we go into "hump day" and have three episodes left how incredibly sad I am. The end of Guiding Light is the end of an entire era of television. I understand that times are changing and the demographic that "soaps" aimed for has since gone to work instead of being primarily burdened (or blessed) with caring for their families from their homes. I also understand that it is hard to pay the salaries of the numerous stars that inhabit Springfield... Even though they don't make nearly as much as "Prime Time" actors and yet are in MANY, MANY more episodes per month, let alone per year.

Knowing all that and more, doesn't lessen the loss of people I have come to care about... Both the characters in the town and the actors who portrayed them. These are/were good people who were always willing to meet their fans...

Guiding Light will live on forever in my memories...

    I heard that the execs were talking about how the show had made so much history and many "firsts" were in the genre, and it's many years on Radio and television.

Small comfort huh?

I wonder where our fav actors/actresses (like Reva) will end up?

    Guidling Light will also live forever in my memories. I remember watching it as a little girl when it was only on for fifteen minutes every day and we would watch it before Dad came home from work. I am so sad for all the actors who have been so faithful to their viewers for all these years. Hopefully I can watch the last episode and they end the story on a fabulous note for all the characters!!!

Another trial run... AND A NEW PR!!!

I ran with my running buddy "TK" tonight and DH (although we never keep up with him), and I finished my 5K distance in 37:20 for a 12:01 pace per mile. That was a new personal record for me. I actually felt pretty good for the most part when I was running. At times, my legs felt heavy, but I only walked the equivalent of 3 songs and pushed hard for the duration. I have one more run and then the race on Saturday...

For all of you out there logging miles, whether walking or running, keep on moving!!!

    WAY TO GO!!! Remember it isn't about keeping up with DH, this is about you being as healthy and fit as possible for YOU!!! Time doesn't really mean everything...slow and steady will win the race for YOU also.

Trial Run...

Yesterday I ran a trial for next Saturday's 5K... I didn't push myself too terribly hard. I just wanted to try to mimic race day conditions and get a feel for it since I hadn't attempted the whole distance in a while. I ended up running (walked four songs worth) the distance in 39:11. That is less than my last 5K. I know I could have done a little better too if I had pushed myself. I think I'm going to be ready for race day after all. I'm going to do the same thing tomorrow and see how it goes. I may try to push a little harder...

I do have to say that the muscles along my hips are sore today so I'm definitely feeling it... My two prior runs were on the treadmill though and my body can definitely feel the difference!

Another first...

I RAN TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW!!! I didn't even do intervals tonight. I got on the treadmill and did the brisk walk warm up for 3 minutes, ran for 20 minutes, then race walked for 5 minutes, then finally cooled down for 2 minutes... Total workout = 30 minutes... 2.44 miles...

I NEVER, EVER, EVER THOUGHT I WOULD SAY THIS, BUT I FEEL AMAZING!!! My breathing was steady, I was sweating like a pig, but it was AWESOME... I think I could have actually run longer, but since I had taken that time off when I was fighting the bug, I didn't want to overdue it. The worse thing I could ever do would be to come back to hard and fast and end up hurt...

So... Now that I've shouted my astonishment at myself from the rooftops, I'm going to go ice my problematic knees... Just in case!

    What a blessing it is to see someone keep trying!! You are doing such an AWESOME job. It is good to see you enjoying your running again without hurting!!! Be sure to keep yourself hydrated....maybe being out of all the heat is helping also. Not that you aren't sweating of course but the sun isn't also zapping all your energies while you were fighting to stay well as before. Keep up your great work as you are able. Be sure to drink, drink, drink as you are running. (well, you know what I mean) You are truly my inspiration as well as for many others.
