Fourth half marathon is done!

Saturday, November 17, 2012

This past weekend I went to Walt Disney World for the first time and also completed my fourth half marathon. Disney World was really fun, surprisingly accommodating to me with my vegan diet and also a bit overwhelming at times. Here are some photos from our trip as well as the two medals I received for completing the race and completing a race in Disneyland and Disney World.

Here's us at Hollywood Studios

Way to go!! I completed my third half-marathon this year and debating doing the Disney Wine and Dine. The decision was made for me when I noticed registration was closed. I definitely want to do a Disney run, but right now I will live vicariously through you.

Congratulations! emoticon

Tuesday, October 09, 2012

Two days ago, I stepped on the scale and was shocked to see that for the first time in my adult life, I weigh under 200 lbs! As of today, I weight 196.4 and I'm really excited about getting to my weight loss goal of 175 lbs. Here's a photo of me at my heaviest and me at 199lbs.

Goal 1 done and fighting the diet sabotage monster!

Thursday, September 20, 2012

I got on the scale today and am happy to say that I'm officially 200lbs (well 199.8 if you want to get technical)! Never during my entire weight journey did I ever really think I would get here and now that I've reached this goal,I'm not gonna stop until I get to my goal weight.

Yesterday I was with my husband while I was taking lunch and he tried to persuade me to eat more food. Now mind you, we had already had a pretty big breakfast and as such, I changed my food intake for the rest of the day. Anyway, eventually we did drive over to Del Taco and he tried to tempt me with their french fries, even to the point of putting them in my face and trying to make me eat them. I was strong through, I said not thank you and did not cave to the diet sabotage monster! Even though the fries did look good, I thought about how I would feel later if I ate them and why would I even want to eat them considering I wasn't even hungry. From this particular experience I learned that only you can control what you allow in your body and if you allow not so healthy food into your body, don't be surprised by the consequences of your actions.

I just feel so honored to have been given an opportunity to get healthy and change my life and if I have to go it alone, then so be it.

My before and after pics

Sunday, July 08, 2012

I figured today would be a great time to post a before and after photo of me.

The photo on the left is of me in 2002 at my highest weight of 298 lbs and the right photo is of me in May of this year at 207 lbs. If you'd told me in 2002 that I'd be where I am now, vegan, running half marathons and exercising everyday, I would've laughed in your face.

I'll admit that not all my days are perfect and I sometimes have setbacks but still, I'm proud of where I've come from and can't wait to reach my goal weight!

    Fantastic job!

And so true that what we do and want changes and progresses over time. I wouldn't have been able to guess where I'd be now a year ago.

Second half marathon done!

Monday, April 16, 2012

I completed my second half marathon on the day before my 33rd birthday. It was the Hollywood Half Marathon and I was happy that I finished and I did so in 3:18 which was slightly faster than my finish time for the Tinkerbell Half Marathon that I did in January.

The day before the race, me and Dennis went to the Health & Fitness Expo at the Hilton in Universal Studios. Here's a picture of me and Marilyn Monroe and me posing with my racing bib.

The next morning I was nervous and excited about running this race. How would I do? Would I finish it in a decent time? Could I manage to complete the race without falling? Here's a photo of me at the starting line for the Hollywood Half Marathon.

I was super stoked to meet one of my favorite podcasters, Wendy from the Yell at Your Fat podcast as well as a member from the Black Girls Run L.A. Chapter. Of course I had to take photos:-)

The rest of the race was pretty uneventful although there was a point where my left foot was hurting so badly I had to stop my running/walking plan at mile 8 but even with that happening, I was still able to finish under 3 and a half hours so yay me!

Here's photos of the medal and me wearing the Hollywood Half Marathon shirt.

I plan to run a couple of more half marathons before the end of the year and the next one will by the Wine and Dine at Disney World in Florida followed by one in October and a Holiday Half in December. Wish me luck!
