I guess anger happens around the world. "The journalist, Jarnail Singh, was upset that a Congress party member, Jagdish Tytler, had been cleared of charges filed during the anti Sikh riots of 1984 and subsequently been given a ticket to contest the 2009 General Elections in India. In 2008 an Iraqi reporter flung his shoe at former US President George W Bush to protest against U.S. involvement in Iraq."

New Breed

Saturday, October 09, 2010

It is funny irony, that as America struggles to lose calories, much of the rest of the world struggles to gain them. "In 1944, Borlaug was commissioned as head of the Cooperative Wheat Research and Production Program in Mexico. He developed new breeds of wheat that were disease resistant, could grow deeper into the growing seasons at various altitudes, and could produce more grain per stalk. His methods and breed of wheat doubled production in Mexico, and later India, Pakistan, and much of Asia and Latin America. Borlaug also worked with corn, beans, and cassava. In 1970 Borlaug was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for helping feed the world. "

I am thankful for Borlau. Anyone one who helps us to feed the rest of the world deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

I really like this show - LOVE his kids! I wish it didn't have such a scripted feel to it, but it's still very entertaining...I think I want one of those Kiss coffins!

My Birthday is Today

Thursday, October 07, 2010

From Wikipedia.org on 10/07/10

Hi I am Andrea M in Austin, TX and today is my birthday!!!! Yea! Wish me happy birthday. I am over 21, ha ha. Been that way for a while.

From the Birthday Wiki "A birthday, as the term implies, is the day or anniversary of the

particular day on which a person was born...."

In Judaism, the perspective on birthday celebrations is disputed by

various rabbis.[11] In the Hebrew Bible, the one single mention of a

celebration being held in commemoration of someone's day of birth is

for the Egyptian Pharaoh.[12] In addition, in the Greek Scriptures,

King Herod beheaded a Christian, John the Baptizer, at his birthday

The bar mitzvah of 13-year-old Jewish boys, or bat mitzvah for

12-year-old Jewish girls, is perhaps the only Jewish celebration

undertaken in what is often perceived to be in coalition with a

birthday. However, the essence of a bar/bat mitzvah celebration is

entirely religious in origin (i.e. the attainment of religious maturity

according to Jewish law) and not secular, despite modern celebrations

where the secular "birthday" element often overshadows the essence of

it as a religious rite. With or without the "birthday" celebration, the

child nevertheless becomes a bar or bat mitzvah, and the celebration

can be on that day or any date after it. In Jewish tradition, it is

said that the person making a birthday cake can not also be the person

celebrating the birthday, or they may bring a year of bad luck to their

[edit] Christianity

The early Christians did not celebrate Christ's birth because they

considered the celebration of anyone's birth to be a pagan custom. Few

branches of Christianity today hold an official stance on birthdays.

Orthodox Christianity prefers the celebration of name days only, though

not for theological reasons. Some Christian communities, especially in

the Hispanosphere, celebrate both naming days and birthdays. Jehovah's

Witnesses and some Sacred Name groups refrain from celebrating

birthdays on the basis that they are portrayed in a negative light in

the Bible and have historical connections with magic, superstitions,

and Paganism.[13][14][15][16][17]
[edit] Superstitious origins of celebrations

A number of possible superstitious origins for customs associated with

birthday celebrations have been suggested. One source states that the

tradition of birthday parties started in Europe. It was feared that

evil spirits were particularly attracted to people on their birthdays

and to protect them, they would be visited by friends and family, who

would bring good thoughts and wishes.[18]"
