Giacomo

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Fact of the Day: " Venetian adventurer Giacomo Casanova (1725-1798) was an author, a scientist, a gambler, a preacher, a soldier and a spy, but he remains especially (in)famous for his countless love affairs. He provided a detailed account of his scandalous life among the royal courts of Europe in a 12-volume autobiography. Not surprisingly, these memoirs have always been a great source of inspiration for cinema and TV, although with varying approaches and results: in "Casanova & Co." (1976), we saw Tony Curtis as the hero of a stereotypical sex farce; in the sumptuous "Fellini's Casanova" (1977), featuring Donald Sutherland, Casanova was crudely depicted as a bored and elderly philanderer; and in Lasse Hallstrom's romantic comedy of 2005, Heath Ledger played a man in search of the true meaning of love."

On Star Trek sci fi : "There are several reasons for the cancellation of the show, but I rather like this quote from George Takei, who played helm officer Hikaru Sulu ... "I will always be mindful of the fact that we celebrate the genius of the optimistic mind. We celebrate the science fiction world transformed into our very real society today by those visionary minds." - trivia
