I knew Astro Boy was old, but not that it was the first anime cartoon in the U.S. 'Major Astro' was a childrens show originating from Wichita, Kansas. In the mid-1960s it aired the first anime syndicated for broadcast in the US. What was the anime?
Your answer: Astro Boy
'Major Astro' ran from 1960-1973 on KARD-TV. It moved to KSAS-TV in the late 80s and left the air in 1989. It starred Tom Leahy, Jr. as 'Major Astro', who introduced a selection of popular cartoons. The original set was a base station on another planet. The 1980s set was a space shuttle. Leahy died in 2010 at age 87. 'Astro Boy' was first broadcast in Japan in 1963. It portrays the futuristic adventures of a robot boy who was created to replace the inventor's dead son."
