I am re-challenging myself

Sunday, February 10, 2013

I was born in 1956, and this year I will be 57 years old. My challenge to myself is this:

Weigh in at 157 or less on my 57th birtday.

This is doable! I have 40 pounds to lose, and I have almost 9 months to do it. Here are the steps I will take to achieve this goal:

At least 1000 minutes of outdoor activity every month.

Eat less than 1700 calories every day.

Work my way up to, then maintain, 8 cups of water every day.

Re assess these every two months to make adjustments if necessary.

Note: I made almost the identical entry last year at this time, and I was right on track to achieve it, when, in June, my husband was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. I totally devoted myself to his fight for his life. My focus on my own healthy lifestyle went to the wayside, and I gained back everything and then some.

We are still in the midst of the fight against Paul's cancer, but I have determined to get myself back on track. I have already lost 8 of the pounds I had regained, and I'm remaking this challenge to myself.

that is such a great and doable challenge, let us know how you are doing, I am always trying to give my self a goal that I really want to attain, and I think we have to have something to aim at, or at least I do, hoping for that miracle cure, that we know is out there and happens quite often. Good Luck

Forty Days of Prayer and Fasting

Sunday, February 10, 2013

This year, I am planning on 40 days of prayer and fasting during the Lent season, February 13 through March 30. ( I copied the following guidelines from our church bulletin)

WHAT IS PRAYER? Prayer is simply talking to God, listening to His Word and his Spirit as you pray. Prayer does not change things so much as it changes us, making us more open to God's will and ways. Throughout the season of Lent, give renewed daily attention to seeking God's almighty acts and blessings for yourself and others through constant conversations with Him.

WHAT IS FASTING? Fasting is the spiritual discipline of giving fellowship with God priority over something else in your life. Usually it involves not eating for a certain period of time, such as one meal a day or one day out of a week. If you cannot fast a meal (for health reasons), you might choose to give up an hour of sleep, television, or recreation each day instead of food. The idea is to commit yourself to an act of self-denial that focuses time on God and His spiritual purposes for your life.

I was born in 1956, and this year I will be 56 years old. My challenge to myself is this:

Weigh in at 156 or less on my 56th birtday.

This is doable! I have 33 pounds to lose, and I have almost 9 months to do it. Here are the steps I will take to achieve this goal:

At least 1000 minutes of outdoor activity every month.

Eat less than 1700 calories every day.

Work my way up to, then maintain, 8 cups of water every day.

Great goals. Some recommendations: re-assess and adjust every month; increase to 1,200 minutes per month so as to average 40 minutes per day; and most importantly, hang tough and love it!!. Good luck.

Big Win Yesterday

Friday, January 27, 2012

Yesterday, I went to visit a friend, and we had lunch together. For dessert, she offered a chocolate filled donut. I was able to resist, even after she practically begged me to have one. I insisted that I was too full to eat one. Well, after a while when I was going home, she gave me the box of donuts to take home. NO!!! I said, but she just wouldn't let me refuse. So I took them with me, but I stopped at a gas station and threw them away. So they never made it into my house. I feel so victorious.
