First Big Snowstorm of 2009

Saturday, December 19, 2009

Just came back in from my 4th shoveling of the snow here in DE today. 18 inches and it is still coming down steadily! PIA but I have to admit it IS good exercise!

I don't know how much we will end up with; certainly less than 18 inches but more than I care for. I shoveled the driveway only to have another inch at the top of the driveway when I finished.
I am frustrated I missed my run for the first time this month. I slipped on the ice several times when I took my dog for a walk. We will see what tomorrow brings.
Keep sparking!

It seems odd that the all the big snowfall accumulation (18")is happening in the mid-Atlantic states, and here in New England (MA) it's predicted we'll get only 8" out of the storm. We've had a 5" then an 11" snowfalls here so far, but it has been dang cold, single digits at night, then struggling to reach the teens by day.

It sounds like you enjoyed it a little bit. Is 18 inches a lot where you are? Here I am thinking I might have to put a shirt on to go walking. But I remind myself of why I am in Florida. 16 years ago with 2- 36 inch snows in March convinced me.Enjoy your snow,

Contemplating life at age 52

Sunday, March 15, 2009

My 52nd birthday has come. Overall, I'm feeling good. Sure, I'd like to be a few less pounds (OK, a BUNCH less!), but I think since I started on SP and really being conscience about how I eat, the kind of exercise I do, and other health-related matters, I think I am doing pretty well. My biggest challange, beyond the obvious weight goals, is to get my blood sugar back in check (last Ha1C was not great).

Here's to many more birthdays!

I hope you had a very Happy Birthday! I laughed all day when I turned 50 and most of the year as well! I was wondering if I would find 51 as happy and you know what I did!

There's something about getting to be 50, I think. We've been through plenty. I know I have done things in my life and there where times....well, I was surprised as well as Happy to make it this far! I would love to be thinner, I would love to be able to more like I used to, but on the other hand I could be doing lots worst! At least that is what I tell myself!

so emoticon with a big emoticon BIG emoticon n just a bit of silliness emoticon to get through the next year!

Sounds like you are doing well, and best wishes to get that blood sugar under control. That's important and you are really smart to work at it!

Happy Birthday! Good luck with the blood sugar goal.

It's hard to believe it is spring break for CSU already. My son came home on Friday (he is now working in one of the dining halls so he doesn't come home on weekends much anymore), and wouldn't you know it, he's sick! The poor kid rarely gets sick, but I'm glad he is home and I think he is too. Hopefully he'll feel better before the break is over, because it is going to go so quick!

Have a healthy week!

GREAT workout today -- 60 minutes of non-stop laps in the pool!! It has been quite some time since I have done that!

My "baby" is off to college!

Thursday, August 14, 2008

A proud yet sad moment for me today -- I said good bye to my "baby" -- my youngest daughter -- as she heads off for college at Colorado State University! She and her mother are doing the road trip out west, and there is a little part of me that is jealous, but then I think about 3 days on the road, and decided I won't miss that too bad!

She is an incredibly smart and driven student, so I have high expectations that she will do well. She may be back for Thanksgiving, or it may not be until Christmas, which sounds (and looks) like along way off, but the way this year has literally flown by, it will be here before you know it.

Sad, happy, etc...mixed emotions, but happy to see my "baby" growing into a smart, confident, and independent woman. I guess I did my job OK!

So how's your DD liking CSU? My son is a freshman there as well and he's loving it so far. I only live about an hour and a half away, so he was able to come home this past weekend. That would be tough living out of state, not sure I could handle that...lol.

GO RAMS! =)

Just read your blog about your youngest going off to college. My husband works at a local University and helped with move-in day. He said there were many mixed emotions over the last few days. You must be very proud of her!

They say the apple never falls far from the tree so she must get all her smarts and drive from you and your wife. Congratulations proud papa!!

Exercise Update

Monday, July 21, 2008

- Last week's BodyPump class went well, but I clearly overdid it, as my triceps were KILLING me a few days after. They are much better, but plan to lower my weights this week and not repeat my painful experience from a week ago.

- Attended my 1st cycling (spinning) class today. THAT IS HARD WORK! Taking in as much water as I can to prevent legs from cramping up tonight. But, I did like it, the 45 minutes went very fast, and I am planning to back on Wednesday.

- Today was the first day in a LONG time where I felt like I got a good day of exercise in. Hoping for many more successful days like this in the future.
