6600 Meters Today!

Wow -- just did some calculating for my workout today. The gaol: how far could I speed walk for one hour on my local high school track (which has a cushioned surface, btw!). Result: 6600 meters, or 16.5 laps! Equating that into miles = 4.10! I'm impressed! On the treadmill at the gym, I can usually handle 3.5 mph, but I never feel 100% comfortable or steady. I really like walking fast on terra firma much better!

Not sure I am up for running just yet. I'm just happy that I was able to go this far and that long continuously. Now that I know how far I went, maybe the next step is to set a longer distance (i.e..10k or 25 laps) and see what my time will be. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. This is all very new to me!


Breaking Through

The past month has been great in the weight loss category, thanks in no small part to the Biggest Loser competition. Since 9/10:

- Down 15 pounds
- Under 250 lbs for the 1st time in who know how long (long enough that I can't remember, but probably 15 years or longer)
- Within striking distance of my original target for 2007 of 237 (50 pounds down)
- Leading my BL team in % weight loss
-Feeling very confident that my stretch goal of 217 for 2007 is attainable
- Having to buy new clothes, as the old ones are too big!!

Here's to success, and to loosing many more pounds!

Biggest Loser Competition

I attended the organizational meeting for my gym's "Biggest Loser Competition" last night. Organized along the same lines as the show on NBC. The competition formally begins on Monday. Exciting, but a little scary. I've never done a formal weight loss competition before (I guess if I wasn't overweight, that would not be an issue anyway!), so there's the fear that I won't do well, etc.

Then again, I am hoping my 9 months of SP will be a help in being able to hit the ground running! I've been exercising more consistently, eating better, and I suspect for some of my competition, that is not the case.

One of the big benefits is working closely throughout the 8 weeks with a personal trainer and a certified nutritionist. I am hoping that any changes to my program will be tweaks.

I'm sure I'll have more to say next week when the competition begins. As my trainer told me, this weekend is a chance to let my body rest up for 8 weeks of intensity.

2 more pounds down this week! Total of 32 YTD! Yes, it feels good! The clothes are getting loose (in some cases too loose!). Energy level is very high.

My goal to hit 217 by year end is very doable. Back in June when I decided to redouble my efforts, it sounded so far away, but having watched 15 pounds melt off in less than two months has given me confidence that I can achieve the goal.

I start a "Biggest Loser Challenge" at my gym in a little less than 3 weeks. I think this will be the key to hitting my target weight and not allowing any plateaus to set in. I know the challenge will be tough, but with only 3 more pounds to hit the halfway mark, I'm not looking back now!

    Awesome job... keep working hard and do whatever it takes to stay motivated. I had lifted weights for quite some years and after my medical issues this year and a broken arm last year it completely turned things around for me.. I can't tell you how good it feels to be in a gym again.. Stay strong and disciplined. :-)

Today's weigh in was a bit of a milestone. I am at 257 for the first time since March of 2006. Even more inportant: when I reached 257 back in 2006, I was using Meridia (prescribed by my former Dr), which has all sorts of nasty side effects (I can personally attest to many of them!). This time: just diet and exercise!! And I am not stopping here...
