A good week...

Friday, November 16, 2012

Last day on my business trip in RTP, NC. I am very proud of how I kept an eye on the calories and what I ate, kept up with my exercise routine (albeit at a MUCH earlier time of the day!), and overall feel great! I will sleep well tonight I think -- back in my own bed, with my DW next to me, puppies on their beds, and NOOOOOOOOOO alarm tomorrow morning! I have pretty much been getting up at 4:30AM to 5:00AM each day, and that is CLEARLY out of routine, hence the reason I think I'll be sleeping well tonight!

It's hard to be away from home and your comfort zone but you have found out you can do it and still stay on track.

Good job!

Midweek Report (on the road)

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

So far so good on my business trip this week. At midweek, but still following my plan:

- Up at 5:00AM each day, in the workout room by 6:00AM. Had to deviate from my normal workout routine a little yesterday, as both treadmills were busy, so opted for the Precor EFX Elliptical. Did get in strength training Monday and Wednesday (today).

- Making sure to get up and stretch / walk during my meetings

- Tracking calories. Within goal each day so far, with the only issue being not enough fiber.

Friday is going to be a little more challenging. I have a 7AM meeting which I'll need to at my company site for. Thankfully, the hotel is only 5 minutes away, so one of the managers at the hotel is going to bring me over, but will need to be up even earlier (4AM) so I can get my workout in, get packed, get a quick, healthy breakfast, and be on-site in time for the meeting.

My hunch is that this will be the first of several business trips over the next 12 months, so this has been a good week to establish routines. The scale will tell the take next week as to just how successful I have been, but at least I feel like I've stayed on course.

Keep up the good work. Have you thought about packing some resistance bands? They'd take up next to no room in your luggage and are a great substitute in hotels that are lacking strengthening equipment!!

On the road again...

Monday, November 12, 2012

So far so good on my business trip. Flight from Philadelphia to Raleigh on time and actually arrived early into Raleigh, nice dinner (and reasonably healthy) at the hotel last evening, up at 5AM to get a workout in (state of the art equipment!), and able to find healthy choices for breakfast and lunch.

Just a hunch, but I have a feeling this will not be my last business trip - seems like there will be more opportunities in the new year, and a real need for me to be here.

More to follow as the week progresses.

Preparing for first business trip in 6 1/2 years...

Thursday, November 08, 2012

While my DW and I have traveled a few times since I had my WLS last year, I will be taking my first solo trip next week, and a business trip on top of it. While I'm not trying to obsess about it, I am doing a fair amount of planning, such as making sure the hotel I am staying in has good workout facilities, moving my workouts on my calendar to early AM (my normal workouts are at lunchtime, but that is not feasible given that I will be in all day meetings), and making sure I have access to quality foods.

I used to travel on business a lot, and in thinking back, did not give much, if any thought, into nutrition and exercise. Giving it LOTS thought this time!

I'll plan to do a post mortem when I get back. I will do some blogging while I'm on the road as well.

I have a high degree of confidence that I will do well....

You can do it. I don't do that much travel but for my conference last week I was much more conscious about planning than usual and it worked out great. I slipped for one dinner but after it was over I realized it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. You are definitely much more prepared than I am so I am confident you will do well.

Patrick, of everyone I've met, face-to-face or virtually on SparkPeople, you're hands-down the most consistently disciplined, dedicated, motivated and motivating person I know. You will stick with your program on this trip, no question. And if you have slippages, they'll only be that--slippages not changes of habit, and you also know enough to be gentle with yourself you do have slippages. You'll be fine : )

I agree that you'll succeed. Kind of like the holidays. Lots of excuses for getting off your program, but you clearly have the determination not to stray.

Great going.

Relaxing Monday

Monday, November 05, 2012

Normally Mondays can be crazy, but since I have some vacation to use up before the end of the year, I started taking some Mondays off, and in some ways they are nicer to take off than a Friday.

Caught up on my shows on DVR, will go do some office cleaning, but at a relaxed pace, then I'm guessing my DW will want to go do dinner out. The rest of the week will be busy, but at least I'm easing into it!
