Fun times! Stuck in the Denver airport...

Monday, December 10, 2012

There is nothing quite as fun as being stuck in an airport when flights are delayed! I happen to be stuck in Denver as I blog due to the weather on the east coast (specifically Philadelphia). The current delay is 3:10, and hoping it does not grow any longer. As it stands, my flight will arrive around midnight, and after getting my bags, taking the shuttle to my car, etc, I'll be home close to 2AM! Thank goodness I had already planned to take tomorrow AM off from work!

In the meantime, always a fun sport to people watch. So far nothing out of the way of unusual, but with multiple flights delayed to the east coast, there is bound to be one or two folks who may start to sound off (as if the airlines can do anything about it!).

Good coping strategy! I've never had to deal with airport issues (swear to whatever swearable, I have *never, EVER* flown - honest truth!).........however, I have, sadly, had my share of *car-related strandings* - no fun at all.......and I didn't even have the option of "people-watching" to fall back on.....

Hope all goes well for you!

I suppose security would complain if you ran around and up and down the stairs.

Yes, people watching at the airport can be so much fun which can be distracting when you plan on getting some work done while you wait.

I hope your wait isn't any longer than it already is. At least there is a lot to do in the Denver Airport.

Many years ago my family and I were stuck in the Denver Airport coming back from a vacation to Disney We had to stay overnight in a hotel because of the weather. The rest of my family was upset because they had not taken an extra day off of work but,I thought of it as an adventure and had a good time. I wish you success with all of your goals. emoticon

It's Official: My first sub-30 minute 5K!

Saturday, December 08, 2012

In the past few weeks, I've been able in training to get my 5K time under 30 minutes, but today was the big day -- my first official, chipped 5K race! And to add a little intrigue to this race, it was in Tucson, AZ, which is 1/2 mile above sea level (where I live on the east coast, we are AT sea level!).

In spite of the altitude challenge, I was able to officially post my first sub-30 minute 5K -- 29:39!!

I did have to do a few fast walks during the race to catch my breath, but overall it was a very successful race! Hopefully, I'll be back here next year and lowering that time!

AWESOME and FANTASTIC. I would so like to post that, but not getting too hung up on it anymore, especially with each birthday that keeps getting added on.

I think most of my problem is between my ears! Ha ha ha. Enough about me.

Congrats man. That is fantastic. I can feel the joy, happiness, pride and sheer enthusiasm of your accomplishment. Coolness.

12/07/2012 in Arizona

Friday, December 07, 2012

Always a pleasure to be in Arizona -- warm temps, sunny skies, etc. Today is my dad's 81st birthday, and we have a few things planned:

- Lunch plans at a retirement community he is thinking he may move to . It is a very nice place, and I really think this is the right thing for him to do -- he misses being around people!

- Dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant in Tucson. Their specialty is a dish called Carne Seca. Besides just being amazingly good, the way it is created is quite interesting -- the beef is "cooked" on screens on the roof! Gives you some idea just how warm the sun is here in southern Arizona!

Tomorrow I run in my first out of town 5K race up at the University of Arizona. Will blog about that tomorrow.

It is great that you and your dad will be able to spend time together. Dinner sounds delicious. I love Mexican food and hope your father loves the new community because loneliness is not fun. Best of success in your run emoticon. -- Lou

Happy birthday to your Dad! Enjoy AZ. We were out there last year at this time visiting my Mother and sister near PHX. I wish I could get out there more often.

My dad is in Tempe. We did something similar when he turned 80.

A tip: remember to hydrate constantly. AZ's air is very drying. I always wanted to get the t-shirt with a picture of the old man on the front. He's desiccated. The caption reads "but, its a dry heat".

    Great job!!!
In 2005 when I was at the bottom of my weight loss yo yo (235 lbs), I hit the 30 min mark too. Great feeling. Hoping to get that feeling back spring of 2013. I am probably closer to 45 min right now.

A good week...

Friday, November 16, 2012

Last day on my business trip in RTP, NC. I am very proud of how I kept an eye on the calories and what I ate, kept up with my exercise routine (albeit at a MUCH earlier time of the day!), and overall feel great! I will sleep well tonight I think -- back in my own bed, with my DW next to me, puppies on their beds, and NOOOOOOOOOO alarm tomorrow morning! I have pretty much been getting up at 4:30AM to 5:00AM each day, and that is CLEARLY out of routine, hence the reason I think I'll be sleeping well tonight!
