Great weigh-in this morning -- 189.2 pounds! First time under 190 in what seems like forever! 34 years for sure!
Another one is rapidly approaching: 187. When I hit that mark, it will be an even 100 pounds lost since I actively started on SP 5.5 years ago. I remember what precipitated that -- and sorry if I have told this story before...
My wife and I had just spent a wonderful week at Sandals in St. Lucia at the end of 2006 / beginning of 2007. Our hair stylist had told us that celebrating New Years Eve at Sandals was a great experience, and it was! Warm, plenty of great food and drink, etc. 2006 had been an interesting year. Started out being sick as a dog, then got better and found a new job that was more to my liking, my son got married, so things were going well. But I had pretty much ignored any semblance of healthy eating and put on 30 pounds by the time we got to St. Lucia. And the way I ate and drank that week I'm sure I put on another 5-10!
So, like all good vacations, it came to an end, headed for the airport, boarded the flight and just SAT there for over an hour before we took off for a 5+ hour plane ride. AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE SEAT!! I was so uncomfortable (miserable actually), and because we left so late, we missed our connecting flight home and ended up stuck in not the nicest hotel I've stayed in.
But the middle seat fiasco stuck with me, and when we did get home, I decided I needed to start eating healthier. And so that first weigh-in was a whopping 287 pounds!
It did not happen overnight...many ups and downs along the way, but happily I've found a solution and am in the best shape of my life in...well 34 years!

For those of you who followed the rock music scene in the 60's and 70's, you may have read on Monday 7/16 that Deep Purple co-founder Jon Lord (keyboards) passed away. Since I have been a long time DP fan, this one hurts just a bit more, but given his condition (pancreatic cancer), I am glad he has been relieved of his pain and is free to wail away on his Hammond organ in the great beyond!
If you've never heard Jon play, try Spotify -- you can pick up a ton of his work. I have it on right now and am enjoying his rich diverse work.
Rock on Jon!

Clothes shopping used to be one of my least favorite things to do. Why? Well, prior to my WLS last September, I always had a hard time finding clothes at a "normal" store like Kohls that truly fit correctly, especially pants, where finding anything above a 42 waist was nearly impossible, so either it was "pour" into a 42 or head for the dreaded "Big and Tall" stores where I would normally pay full price.
Thankfully that is no longer an issue. In fact now the "problem" is to not buy too many clothes in the same size because they will be too big! Nice problem!
My latest "casualty" was some microfiber shorts I had purchased 5 years ago when I had lost some weight. I wore one pair to play golf about a month ago and I literally had to tighten my belt on the last notch to keep them from falling down. Fast forward to last Thursday, hoping that maybe one of the other pair of shorts was smaller, but not the case, and in fact i could not even keep them up with a belt.
Fast forward to today -- mentioned to my wife that I need to get some shorts, so we stopped after breakfast at Kohls, and thankfully, shorts are on sale!
The best part -- size 34 waist!!!!!! And for fun, I did try on a 32, but it was a bit tight, but honestly the last time I think I was in a size 34 waist had to have been around my first wedding back in 1978!!
Of course this means come the fall I will have to start looking for new jeans, but hey this is a reward, and I am enjoying every minute of it!
