As I just posted out on FB, I tip my hats to the men and women who do landsacaping for a living. TOUGH WORK! We had 4 areas in our front yard to put down new landscaping fabric and mulch down, and it took all of last weekend and today (Saturday) to get them all done! But it looks good, and so much better than the weed-invested and ugly little red rock mess that was there!
Started on the back yard late today -- around 2 HUGE rose bushes, so got cut up pretty good, but the fabric is all tacked down! I'll plan to mulch that in the AM...

After 3 days of landscape work outside in 80 and 90+ temps, I needed a work day to recover! But I have to say the landscape work my wife and I did really improved the looks of our front yard! The folks at Lowe's won't know what to do today if I don't show up, since I was there everyday for the past 4 days!
We have one more section out front to do. I think I have enough landscaping fabric to get it covered, but I used up all 50 bags of mulch I purchased last Friday so I will need to make another trip to Lowe's, just not today. I am going to the YMCA today -- I think it will be a strength training day as I am not sure my legs are up for a run. Plus, I plan to mow the back 40 this evening after the temps cool off some (it'll be close to 90F plus high dew point), and that will be more than enough leg work for today.
Well, OK, I guess I'd better actually do some work now....

In our front yard there are 4 distinct areas that required serious landscaping work. 2 of the 4 are done, and boy do they look nice! Besides weeds coming up, the former owners had used rock, so we put new landscaping fabric over the top of the rock and weeds, then covered that with approx. 3" of black mulch.
I have the third area all prepped, just need to put down fabric, etc. Not sure I'll get the 4th done this weekend, but it'll be a good task for next weekend.
Oh yeah, and I still have the back yard to do. Sigh....

Amazing where 11 days have gone, but it has been that long since I put in a full day of work. But it was a very interesting and varied 11 days of vacation and weekends:
Thursday, 5/10: Fertilized back yard, only to discover I did not have enough product to finish the job, so a 7am run to Lowe's! After that, dropped to dogs off at the kennel, showered and finished packing and off to the airport for our 4+ hour flight to Denver. Dinner that evening with my soon to be graduate daughter!
Friday, 5/11: Ran on the treadmill in the AM (at 4900 feet elevation!), then attended my daughter's Honors ceremony. Nice Italian dinner out with my DW that evening.
Saturday, 5/12: Graduation ceremony at 8AM! Followed by early lunch at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Also celebrated my brother's 59th BD! Had dinner that evening with some of my ex in-laws that I get along with. The other ones -- the ones I DON'T get along with (including my ex-wife) had a party for my daughter. The ones I had dinner with were not invited (long story!). Very nice dinner!
Sunday, 5/13: Road trip to South Dakota (Rapid City). We passed through 3 states, two of which my wife had never been to (Wyoming and Nebraska). Stopped at the border signs for each state and took pics! It was fun!
Monday, 5/14: Tourist time! Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse.
Tuesday, 5/15: Ran at the Rapid City YMCA early AM. More tourist time: Sturgis and Deadwood, but my DW started feeling ill in Deadwood, so we headed back to the hotel.
Wednesday, 5/16: Drive back to Denver. Met my work manager for dinner. DW was still feeling effects of the intestinal virus (we thought it might have been food poisoning at the time).
Thursday, 5/17: One more run, this one outside by our hotel. Denver has some great biking and running paths. No wonder Colorado constantly leads the nation in being the most healthy state! Flight back home.
Friday, 5/18: In spite of being back in my own bed, I did not sleep well, and it was because I discovered I caught the intestinal virus! This was clearly not the game plan for this day!
Saturday, 5/19: Did the mowing I was going to do on 5/18! As expected, the fertilizer kicked in while we were gone, so I had to raise the blade on the mower! First time i have ever done the entire yard in one day using just the self propelled mower (in the past I had to use the tractor b/c I just did not have the stamina to walk it all). 34,000 steps!!
Sunday (today), 5/20: Back to our routines -- made breakfast, some light chores, read the Sunday paper, etc.
Back to the grind tomorrow -- nice break, but ready to get back into it!

Yesterday (Friday) was NOT a fun day! I was so happy to get home and sleep in my own bed Thursday night, only to discover I had picked up an intestinal virus (probably from my DW, who had it just a few days previous). Slept AWFUL Thursday night / Friday morning, then woke up and headed to my office upstairs, only to be so weak and feverish that I had to just about collapse on my sofa! I sweated profusely for several minutes, obvious that my body was trying desperately to burn out the unwanted and uninvited "guest"! After that, I made my way back to bed and feel asleep for most of the day, and as my DW said -- "you must be sick -- you NEVER go back to bed let alone go to sleep!".
At least I was able to start taking in some food later yesterday afternoon -- chicken soup and saltines, followed later by a grilled cheese sandwich, a few more saltines, and then a nice crisp apple.
Slept so much better last night. Only one bio break at 2am in the morning, then right back to sleep until 6:30AM or so. Coffee tasted GREAT today, and am nibbling on a bowl of blueberries, Oikos yogurt and Kashi Go Lean cereal. Washed the sheets and have them out on the clothes line to dry in the bright late spring sun, and will be heading out to start mowing shortly. It has been over a week since I mowed, so the grass is very high, which will require a couple of passes, good exercise for me since I basically did nothing yesterday. 80F high today, low humidity, so a perfect day to be outside.
What a difference a day makes!
