What a difference a day makes!

Yesterday (Friday) was NOT a fun day! I was so happy to get home and sleep in my own bed Thursday night, only to discover I had picked up an intestinal virus (probably from my DW, who had it just a few days previous). Slept AWFUL Thursday night / Friday morning, then woke up and headed to my office upstairs, only to be so weak and feverish that I had to just about collapse on my sofa! I sweated profusely for several minutes, obvious that my body was trying desperately to burn out the unwanted and uninvited "guest"! After that, I made my way back to bed and feel asleep for most of the day, and as my DW said -- "you must be sick -- you NEVER go back to bed let alone go to sleep!".

At least I was able to start taking in some food later yesterday afternoon -- chicken soup and saltines, followed later by a grilled cheese sandwich, a few more saltines, and then a nice crisp apple.

Slept so much better last night. Only one bio break at 2am in the morning, then right back to sleep until 6:30AM or so. Coffee tasted GREAT today, and am nibbling on a bowl of blueberries, Oikos yogurt and Kashi Go Lean cereal. Washed the sheets and have them out on the clothes line to dry in the bright late spring sun, and will be heading out to start mowing shortly. It has been over a week since I mowed, so the grass is very high, which will require a couple of passes, good exercise for me since I basically did nothing yesterday. 80F high today, low humidity, so a perfect day to be outside.

Ready to head home...

Flying home from Denver this afternoon. Nice vacation, but I am sure ready to crawl in my own bed tonight! Just something about that feeling....

Ran this morning at 6:15AM. Was going to do the treadmill here at the hotel but I forgot that is prime time, so with it being 60F and sunny and with access to a fantastic running/biking trail nearby, I opted to run outside. 4.2 miles in 49 minutes, and that is at over 5600 ft elevation and plenty of hills, neither of which I deal with at home in Delaware! I was pretty darn pleased with my results!

Tomorrow I expect to be mowing all day, which will be a nice workout in itself. Oh, and we go pick up the puppies from the kennel -- can't wait for the wagging tails and big sloppy kisses!

Busy weekend...now time for some fun!

The last few days have been busy with graduation activities here at CSU in Colorado. The actual commencement was at 8am Saturday morning! We survived the early start, had a very nice lunch for my kids and brother, relaxed in the afternoon, then a nice dinner with some other family members (technically, "ex" family members, but we all have gotten along well in spite of the divorce from many years ago).

Lounging this morning before we catch a bite in the hotel breakfast nook and pack up to head to South Dakota for the "fun" part of the vacation. Mt Rushmore, Black Hills, Sturgis, and maybe even Deadwood are on the list of to do's. First time ever to visit South Dakota.

So this is the first year not to have my mom around for Mother's Day. A little strange, but I know in my heart she in a much better place. So mom, if you are reading my blog (hey, anything is possible!), Happy Mother's Day!

Upcoming celebration in Colorado

We are heading out to Colorado tomorrow for quite a celebration -- my youngest daughter graduates on Saturday from Colorado State University! Graduation is early -- 8:00AM They do a number of ceremonies, all broken down by college (she is graduating with a Biology degree), so I guess her college got the short straw for the time. But by the time the ceremony is over, pictures are taken, etc., it will be time for lunch and we have reservations at an outstanding Mexican restaurant in downtown Ft. Collins. I'm sure a margarita or two will be consumed!

My youngest did the conventional college experience -- 4 years, out of state, dorms, etc. My two other children have done it differently, but all have gotten (or are getting) very good educations. I'm very proud of all of them, to say the least, and I am going to make a point to salute all of them at lunch on Saturday.

Always look forward to trips to Colorado -- I spent my formative years there, so it is a little like a homecoming for me. Besides graduation, we plan to go to South Dakota to do some sightseeing -- something we never did as kids! (I rode my dad about that the other day, of course in a humorous way, and he took it as such!).

Tomorrow is the "fun" day -- plan to fertilize the back yard before we leave (putting down fertilizer + weed and feed so good to have it down while the dogs are in the kennel), oh yeah, dogs to the kennel, then the 1.5 hour drive to Philly to catch our flight. Non-stop flight, and it appears the weather in Philly and Denver will be good, so that won't be a factor.

I'll plan to do some more blogging and maybe even add some pictures while we are in Colorado and South Dakota.

Headphones

Went to Best Buy yesterday to get new headphones. Nothing too exciting, except I go through them like water it seems!! My new ones are Klipsch S4 in-ear headphones, which were highly rated by CNET. The most expensive ones I have ever bought!

My previous ones were Sennheiser Sports over the ear headphones, and they started crackling at the gym yesterday (I'm guessing from sweat getting into them). I think I had them for maybe 4 months. The ones previous to that (can't remember brand) it was the plug that went into my iPod that got messed up (I think it was from my much fatter belly then!).

So hoping these new Klipsch buds hold up. They will get the acid test at lunchtime today when I go running.

Curious if it is just me or do others have issues with headphones you use for workouts.

I typically only use headphone and / or music if I am working on my cadence. However, I have found that none of the ones I have used have stood up too well, not sure why not. I run outside mostly so I want to hear the sound of cars, etc, this is the reason I only listen to music when I am specifically working on cadence. Report Inappropriate Comment

Actually I use my headphones that came with my I phone. They are water resistant and still holding on after a year. Music makes my runs easier. Good shopping. Report Inappropriate Comment
